Misleading thread title. Even if you accept the article at face value the correct inference is that uninformed people watch Fox News. To "make them dumber" implies that it conveys anti-knowledge. The article/study indicates that it doesn't convey as much knowledge as other programs.

And much of that "science" is BS. Biology isn't based on statistics it's based on empirical evidence. Economics is based on a Gaussian normal world and is pretty much worthless as a result; economics is not a science.
 
Nah, what it is is simple.

Fox does not make you dumb, but it does put the blinders on.

If they started looking at ALL news outlets, they would find that they all do the same to varying extents.

IF people are not willing to flip around, surf the net (not just their favorite partisan sites, BTW0 and get the information themselves, we would have a lot less ignorance going around.

The only thing I find absolutely evil about FOX is their attitude. I used to wath the morning show (NYC) every day. They had people out and about that I actually ran into.

But their focus on fluff made me turn away. NBC was not much better, and I am now on CBS.. All are too fluffy for morning news, however.

But, out of curiosity, I flipped back the other day. Just the intonation and attitude the hosts have to some issues makes my hair stand on end. The hostess is like a nagging nanny and the host seems to have a stick up his arse sometimes.

I never noticed the smell until I left the room and came back.

THAT is what bothers me more than anything. The words are one thing, you can always prove or disprove them... but the WAY people say things is the hardest thing to quantify. Also little things like Hannity and Colmes (was that him?) Could they have gotten someone a bit more charismatic than the host of Test Kitchen to go against a loud and fully-haired pundit?

Feh.

Get rid of "fair and balanced" and call it like it is and I will have much less of a problem with partisan reporting.

Can't argue with you there, I don't waste my time watching Fox, MSNBC, or CNN. Though it is fun watching the FNDS folks frothing at the mouth and slobbering all over themselves every time Fox News is mentioned or used as a new source in a post.

IMO you have to be a rock solid simpleton to be stimulated by Fox news but I've seen a thing or two on their network that can be interesting but even then, it's delivered in such a way that even the slowest can understand. That said if you're already watching, you're probably getting dumber.

Progressive is a code word for Extreme Left Wing when used in the realm of politics.

Media Matters IS an extreme left wing site. Does not mean they are always wrong, but it does mean they ignore the problems any and all liberals cause and only focus on how to spin problems conservatives cause and make them appear as evil as possible.

A republican could accidently trip over his dog as they go out the door for a walk and media matters would create the headline "Republicans support slavery. Republican kicks dog, shows who is master."
