Isn't Fox News free to call it whatever they want?

If the federal government ceased to operate from here on out, I'd call it a blessing. Am I free to say that? Or did that trample on our freedom from religion?
Actually "slimdown" is more accurate than "shutdown" since about 80% of the government continues to function unabated. OP's outrage over such a triviality (Fox News "lying" by using the word "slimdown"! OMG!) is duly noted and speaks volumes about where he's coming from.

Are those examples of actual "serious" government spending?

I hope you are making them up, but fear you are not...
Hell no, I'm not making them up. There are thousands and thousands of these idiotic expenditures. That's why it's so absurd to hear Pelosi say we've cut to the bone and there's nothing left to cut.

That's why it's frighteningly sad to see the brain-dead minions shake their heads in agreement. We spend money on tons and tons and tons of really, stupid shit. But it's all sacred and can't be cut.

We have brainwashed generations into thinking that everything the government does and desires should not be questioned.

I think Foxnews should rename it the Government Hoedown. They can have some banjo music and we can make it a party!

One thing about the shutdown: The House Republicans sent an offer over to the Senate to not shut down if the Democrats would give up their Obamacare subsidies. The Democrats in the Senate voted to keep their subsidies..elections have consequences.

Elections have consequences and that's why Obama won twice. Fuck you and another other teabagging POS that tries to reinvent history. ECOLiar. GTFUIGTB, everyone knows who is to blame for the state of the country and who stands in the way of fixing the mess they left. Can't let Obamacare succeed because it's going to make you and your ilk look like assholes. Like you already don't.

What Fox news is calling it is more accurate the the other MSM. It speaks volumes that the title of this topic hasn't been changed.

You can always tell when the left is upset about something. They let you know in a myriad of ways. OUTRAGE over replacing the word "shutdown" with "slimdown". How juvenile.

Just think, if this goes on long enough, the people may decide there's a lot of wasteful spending in government. That's some scary shit there.

How will we function without knowing if cocaine makes Japanese quail engage in risky sexual behavior? $176,000 on that.

What could we do with the $2.6 million dollars we spent to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly?

How about the $17.8 million we spent on China for social and environmental programs. China, you know the people that we borrow so much money from?

Or, $1.5 million to study why many lesbians are overweight and gay men are not.

This is the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Feel free to add your own.

I thought NEWS was supposed to cover FACTS not rename events to their liking.

BTW - Remember the bitching and moaning "He won't even say the word terrorist"

That 80% statistic came from where, exactly?

Most likely pulled out of your ass...

And, uhh, will those still working be paid on time, or late, after this is over?

Government shutdown is not particularly accurate, but it is the term that all the players involved in the process have used, so it makes sense to use it. (with supporting explanation). Partial government shutdown is preferable, and that is sometimes used.

Government slimdown is a pretty hilariously transparent attempt to spin the issue in favor of Republicans now that public opinion seems to be against them.

What is the origin of 'shutdown' in the first place? Are you so sure that both sides weren't using that term simply to try to make it sound worse than it is in an attempt to motivate their own political base to take action on their side? After all, both parties have been blaming the other up to this point.

It doesn't really matter though, the point is 'shutdown' has never been an accurate term for what is actually happening, and barring the term being used in the legal documentation that describes the situation, it never should have been used. You choose to see this as a publicity stunt because you want to. What everyone should see it as is a welcome change towards sanity. Politics is far too often driven by this type of idiotic exaggeration and over-sensationalizing. It shouldn't matter what its been called for the last three weeks, the only thing that should matter is what is accurate.

Sure. Of all the terms given, partial shutdown would be by far the most correct as the government is partially shutting down. BTW, "shutdown" has been used for decades.

Slimdown is obvious political spin by a biased media organization.

OK, then let's use your logic. Who came up with the word "shutdown". Is it government sanctioned language that must be used under penalty of law? I could on and on with this but it's just too damned silly to pursue.

The level of outrage you have over this is not commensurate with the "crime". It's on the order of a juvenile tantrum. You love all things progressive and that come out of the mouths and minds of Democrats - we get that. You hate all that is conservative and that comes out of the mouths and minds of Republicans - we get that. You hate Fox News - we really, really, all get that. Your outrage over something as inconsequential as a word in this instance is evidence of a psychosis. It's over the top.

It might be spin but it is more accurate than "shutdown".

80% was a reasonable guess on my part and may actually be low when you start adding up the numbers...do you have a better guess? Or are you just splitting hairs over this estimate for no other purpose than to be trite and argumentative?

It's a dishonest attempt at favorable framing and you know it. If Fox News actually cared about accuracy they wouldn't use it.
If it was dishonest it wouldn't be more accurate. It may be bias and an attempt to frame the debate but if the term is more accurate then it is at the end of the day a better description.

I don't necessarily view 'slimdown' as more accurate. It is more accurate in some ways in that it describes the scope better, but it also implies that the shutdowns were positive. I have no idea why this is even being argued, we all know exactly why Fox News did it.

Sounds pretty much like it's exactly accurate then. So the thread is complete fail by OP, as usual and expected :D

lol, Fox News certainly knows how to pander to their audience. As long as they keep telling you guys what you want to hear, you keep watching to feel validated. They play you like a fiddle.

The Republican party is going through a phase of insanity. Their party has been taken over by the most emotionally backward and stunted people in the country, self-hating Southern spawned racism on the rampage. That is why the fact that the shutdown could be more likened to a slim down owing to the portion actually unfunded, that has nothing at all to do with what is behind the word games. The most insane element of our society, in an effort to prevent a Black man from governing successfully and from garnering credit for a more universal health care system, have shut the government down rather than legislate other important issues. These profoundly immature individuals, sick to their cores, have derailed the political process in a tantrum. Because the obvious truth of this will redound to the benefit of Democrats, all stops are being pulled out to mitigate the inevitable damage. Please oh please, America, don't think ill of our stinking asses and that we are unpatriotic traitors. See this only as a government slim down. You can fool a lot of the people a lot of the time, witness the number of morons posting here in this thread, but in the long run shit smells like shit. It's a full moon and the mentally ill are beginning to howl and little rat minds are out trying to twist words. The Republican party depends for its existence of people with defective minds, minds that neither reason or think logically. You create what you fear and Republicans fear the loss of elections. Hehe! There's a cost to being psychologically ignorant.

If our country weren't so filled with blithering meat-heads, maybe we could do something serious about the debt. But Republicans aren't really about the debt, they're about control. Don't ever lose control, because what is inside might escape, as if it isn't already killing us anyway.

But never mind if you have a conservative brain. You can only deflect what I say. The insane do the same thing time and time again so the rest of us know already what to expect.
