July Ratings: Fox News Beats MSNBC & CNN Combined in Total Day and Prime
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvn...y_and_prime_122858.asp

Fox News Channel continued its cable news dominance in July not only beating CNN and MSNBC combined, but showing the most growth in the younger demo. In A25-54 viewers, FNC is up 48% in total day, and up 70% in primetime, compared to July '08.
Looks like younger viewers are starting to see the liberal media for what it is.

Cable news' #1 show for 104 consecutive months, "The O'Reilly Factor", is up 37% over July '08.
WOW - The #1 show for 104 months is UP 37% over last year.

and the kicker....
FNC's audience expanded in all categories during July 2009, besting CNN and MSNBC combined in viewership (for both Total Day and Prime) according to Nielsen Media Research.
Liberals can keep trying to call FNC - "Faux News" all they want but the fact of the matter is that viewers are flocking from CNN/MSBNC to FNC for a reason. When all of your prime time programming sees double digit ratings gains you must be doing something right.

The O'Reilly Factor beat a broadcast news - CBS Evening News with Kattie Coric. Keep the lie alive liberals...keep the lie alive.

Are you truly that dense? All that says is that Fox News is better at being a business than MSNBC/CNN, it says nothing about the quality of the news.

By your analogy, McDonalds is the best tasting, most nutritious food in the world. 1+ billion people a day cannot be wrong.

And political polls and ratings? Don't count because it's just a "business"?

That's all this post amounts to.

Your pile of horse shit has more people around it sniffing it and exclaiming that it actually "smells good"? That doesn't mean it smells good, ya dumb partisan slut.

2 Million viewers in prime time.

25 million people watch the nightly network news on ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS each day.

12 million watch the network morning shows each day.

Sunday News Shows:

In 2007, NBC?s Meet the Press continued to attract the most viewers, averaging 3.5 million per week for the year, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. That is 34% more than second-place Face the Nation, which airs on CBS and averaged 2.62 million. Just 25,000 viewers behind CBS was ABC?s This Week (2.59 million).

And in fourth place was Fox News Sunday, with an average of 1.3 million each week.

State of the Media
(Pew Research - Lots of good stuff)

on the one hand we have partisans defending Fox of its "mainstream" and "Fair and Balanced" reporting

on the other we have partisans proclaiming a national shift to the right due to the growth in Fox viewership.

I'm confused....

Cables news is more 'commentary' than news and trends toward a higher percentage of their content being politics, crime and immigration.

for a reason
. When all of your prime time programming sees double digit ratings gains you must be doing something right.

The reason is people are stupid. It's the same reason they supported the Iraq war en masse and the same reason they re-elected a terrible president in 2004. Agagin!

Evidently then, according to you, those same stupid people elected The One in 2008. Is that correct?

Tabloid TV at its best.
No big deal...

Right. Unless the numbers are in your favor.

This is easy to explain:

The right and the left have different mentalities. The mentality of the right is perfectly conducive to radio and TV that specialized in righteous outrage and moral indignation.

The right is filled with pompous assholes with swollen phony egos who pretend to have virtues and look down long noses at others they pretend are morally depraved and sexually dirty.

The folk on the left have no lefteous outrage because such a thing doesn't exist, and they have no moral indignation, naturally, because they have no morals.

LOL, Moonie always makes me laugh. I certainly like that last sentence. There's no righteous outrage and moral indignation exemplified by the silly lefties in this thread. Certainly not! Hah!

I don't watch television at all. I get all of the important news of the day by reading The Sun, Paris Match and the Asahi Shimbun. The best liberally biased commentary, however, is written on the walls of bathroom stalls, repeated here ad infinitum for your convenience.

This is how corporate journalism works now a days. All you reactionaries tumpeting your glorious news stations as "victorious" in their Holy War on the truth and real journalism are laughable.

For all practical purposes the definition of "The Free Press" in America is having the freedom (for corporations) to pull these kinds of stunts - whether it be the "feud" itself or its negotiated "settlement."

Corporate interests of course are free to censor and/or to shape the "news" and their coverage of the news in any way they want. They're free to lie to the public, to propagandize for one or another political party or interest, they're free to ignore news they don't condsider worthy, they're free to smear whomever and whatever they choose. That's what "The Free Press" means in todays journalism.

The line between corporate interests and journalistic integrity remains intact. They just had to move it up 30,000 feet so as not to interfere with the "practical realities" of running for-profit news organizations. It's actually right next to where we stored our adherence to the law.

Corporate media deserves every condemnation and criticism they receive, for they lie, they corrupt, and they warp the public interest to line their pockets. Instead of trying to transform the corporate media into a controlled truth teller, make them irrelevant. Don't watch, don't buy, don't believe them. Rely on the alternatives, support them and help build them up.

This is as opposed to the government run media comfortably found elsewhere.

And once again I note to myself that 90% of the flame posts ("you are a pathetic joke" etc. etc.) we see on this board come from liberals.

Seems like personal insults come from both sides, but there are more liberals on P&N.

No, there aren't. Unless you're talking about the dumbass american definition of liberal, which basically comes down to conservatives saying "librulz" whenever they're trying to label somebody or something they don't like. There are far fewer socially permissive people on this forum than there are socially restrictive people. A lot of democrats are social conservatives, too.

This is an American forum, so of course we're talking about the "dumbass american definition of liberal".

Actually, the way I see it, old media here is having an affair with government. They deny it, but they still do it. In other places the media is actually long married to the government and they sit cranky in their bed.

Proving only the relative stats regarding number of easily led idiots there are... AGAGIN (sic). 😛

Got a spell checker?

My 2 cents:

Who the fuck cares about their ratings... all of the major media outlets are simply dog and pony shows. The 5 big media conglomerates are controlled my the same overarching interests.

Yup... Check the latest election results for the general mood of the country - which is "sick and tired of reps"

So? What do ratings really amount to these days? FOX is better at preaching to the choir? Pfffft. If you want that, FOX is great. If you want NEWS, go somewhere else - and by that I mean away from the television.

there are so many people that hate fox news....why exactly?

What makes them any worse than the other news stations?
Sean Hannity, Bill O'Riely, the Fox and Friends Morning Zoo, etc.

Personally I find Cable News obnoxious with Faux being the worse by far and I think the majority of TV viewers feel the same.. Of course the Wingnuts love Faux as it's like a Political Pep Rally with Gas Bags like O'Riely and Hannity leading the cheers.

Just as the lefty wingnuts love the status quo rants of Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews. Same sh!t, different look.

But as the ratings demonstrate in Pat's OP there are far less Lefty Wingers than there are Hair on Fire Mouth Breathers that swear by Faux News

Personally I don't like any of the cable news shows.

Not because of a few individuals, but because reporting on all of them is shit.

they are all like watching a tv version of the Enquirer.

they really don't differ much from places like TMZ.

With Faux being the absolute worse followed closely by MSNBC with the likes of Olberman.

i dont mind oreilly.
I watch hannity and glenn beck too because those two are crazy in the head - it's pure entertainment

If corporations are so anti-liberal, why are they all touting their greenness? We've had the one of the cooler summers in NYC so far.. So much for global warming.
