Was trying to find the silver lining...Let's just say the US had a better reputation for level headed actions than most Arab nations.

He wasn't alone on this one. Several nations cut ties before he opened his mouth.

Russia is fast making itself into a rogue state throughout the world. Putin would be well advised to ease off these tactics, at least for a little while.
Why? It seems to be working for him.
Why? It seems to be working for him.
For now, perhaps. But it's becoming increasingly common knowledge what they are doing.
Actually, I would argue whether last year's election interference is really working out for him. If his sole objective was to screw us up by electing Trump, then yes. If it was to get favors from Trump, then probably not. Trump's hands are pretty much tied now.
I'm not convinced they really wanted Trump. They wanted some chaos and a divided electorate of which a good chunk would be calling for more hearings about Ben Ghazi and his acting. But ultimately I think they understand having an adult in charge would be best.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE are all majority sunni muslim nations and allies for most purposes. Saudi Arabia is the largest, richest, and most populous of these nations, but Qatar is arguably the most influential in terms of geopolitics. The worldwide cable channel al-Jazeera is based in Qatar and it is very influential.
The cause of this conflict is mostly support for the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikwhan) by Qatar and al-Jazeera and the refusal of Qatar to go along with anti-Iranian policy.
Iran is currently viewed by Saudi as the biggest threat to... well... everything. They want Iran to have literally zero influence in the middle east, and they are hell bent on accomplishing this goal. Saudi arabia also hates the Muslim Brotherhood, because they were (before ISIS) the largest islamist revolutionary force in the middle east. They were and are a threat to the Saudi monarchy, so Qatar's support for them is a serious problem.
Saudi Arabia has recently taken the stance that all its allies must be allied with them in the fight against Iran. Qatar has refused, and so Saudi Arabia has decided it will throw a diplomatic tantrum and close its airports to flights and then complain.
I'm sure he'll take your warning to heart.
Prior to Trump's trip there was some concern that he could be co-opted by the Saudi's to advance their interests in the region at our expense. It would seem those concerns were well founded. Bet there is some good face palming going on at the Pentagon today.
holy shit, turns out this whole mess was caused by Russia hacking the Qatar state owned media and planting a fake news story.
the resulting chaos in the ME and Trump attacking Qatar on Twitter this morning were all results of Russian hacking.
wake up Trumpsters!
