Congress wrote the bill that Congress passed, granting Bush the powers to make the decision to invade Iraq.

If Congress didn't intend to grant him those powers, then they either wrote the Bill incorrectly, or they didn't understand what they were signing (oops!)

and as I've stated, the Dimocrats could not have been "mislead" because they actually DIDN'T read the Intelligence Report they were provided, upon which Bush acted..

Records: Senators who OK'd war didn't read key report

Those who are claiming they were mislead...NEVER READ THE NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE ESTIMATE ON IRAQ...kinda hard to be "mislead" when you never read it!!

For members of Congress to read the report, they had to go to a secure location on Capitol Hill. The Washington Post reported in 2004 that no more than six senators and a handful of House members were logged as reading the document.

Hillary (smartest woman in America) didn't read it, and she voted for it.

It's sad to find out how your heroes are actually screwups isn't it?
they voted for this war, which your buddy Edwards has called a slogan on a bumper sticker.
And explain to me again how a retard like Bush pulled the wool over the eyes of the smartest woman in the world?

here's a list of all the smart people Bush mislead...
How did that idiot from Texas fool so many people???So many Dimocrats???
Some of the loudest voices against the war, voted for it, and without reading the Intelligence report (which included dissenting opinions about what the facts were)....

Well, Congress has already had a chance to cut this war off at its ankles and hasn't bothered, because the fact is the people in congress are interested in having the anti-war position but not interested in doing what it means, which is pissing off certain people and seen as "not supporting the troops", which is the biggest joke of this entire thing. At this point, Congress is complicit, figuratively and literally with its passing of money.

Bush is a shamelessly idiotic and tragic president but Congress is awful for speaking ill of him, promising to keep him in check, and not doing it. The glass on their house may be even thinner than his!

They wouldn't read it even if they had access to it, so why does it matter?

If what they had been told had been based on the info at hand they wouldn't have had to read it, now would they?

Perhaps a presentation of the available info would have been a better choice instead of presenting a conclusion that was nothing but a straight out lie?

Because the info is known today and i haven't ever seen anyone draw any similar conclusion, some of it was presented to the UN and they thought Powell was joking.

A congressional review of the available information would not have led to an invasion, the admin knew that and decided to lie their arses off so they could get their invasion.

Don't worry, our beloved fuckhead Tony Blair sold us out along with everyone else and we do realize that, it's one of the reasons why the ever so popular Tony had to leave. Same with the Spanish gov and soon the US too.

OK, I'm gonna agree with all the kids who are calling for Bush/Cheney to be impeached, and for the war to be defunded immediately

I am 100% in favor of the Dimocrats IMMEDIATELY calling for a vote to defund the war on terror/iraq, and to move for articles of impeachment against Bush and Cheney (heh, heh, that would make Pelosi President [Hillary would have a cow])

YES!! VOTE NOW!!

It would be one of the happiest days of my life if the Dimocrats would do that...the sooner the better.....

The past is in the past. Now it's time to acknowledge mistakes and fix them. Yes, Congress funded this war before, now it can defund it. Just because you supported something before doesn't mean you have to continue supporting it even if it becomes obvious it was a mistake.
That's the difference between Republicans and Democrats on Iraq.
I think the Congress should simply stop funding this war and simply pass a separate bill that funds bringing troops home from Iraq. Then let Bush decide what he wants to do. He either can take money to bring home the troops, or leave them in Iraq unfunded and take responsibility for that.

Why would they need a vote to defund the war? Doesn't it get defunded by default if it's not funded?
Democrats should just have a vote to fund troop withdrawal.

Don't mix up the war on terror with the elective war on Iraq that has so far done nothing but given terrorist a new training ground.

You like throwing things like Dimocrats around but what would you call me, i'm a democrat but it has a very different meaning outside of the US or maybe it is the same, i don't really know, it seems to me that democrats in the US value the democratic system and having one branch lie to another and withhold crucial information when making decisions is very undemocratic, so is it the democratic vs the undemocratic? If so i am most certainly a democrat.

I don't think the war on terror will ever end, but fighting ghosts based on lies isn't the way to fight such a war IMHO, it's better to go after them to root them out, to get cooperation from the countries they are in, hunt them and their enablers down. Instead of doing that the US has put the war on terror on hold for Iraq which has no chance in hell of EVER being a successful war unless you provide the 400-600k troops a victory would require.

You can't hunt terrorists with conventional warfare, any idiot, even this idiot knows that.

Ok, I dont want to sound picky or something, but you say that same cliche phrase in the vast majority of your posts. It kind of loses meaning after seeing it so many times. Hell, copy and paste that into the search function, it takes more than 1 pages just to fit all the threads that you have said that in and that doesnt include the multiple times per thread. Im not debating whether the statement is right or wrong, Im just saying that its been WAYYYYY overused.

Sure, as soon as we've stopped the national catastrophy they're causing. Until then, the words describe reality. If you don't like the words I use, post some of your own to describe their treason, murder, total corruption and other felonies.

And if you still don't understand how catastrophic the situation is, your choice of the confused icon suits you perfectly.

How is this still being debated? The facts here are simple to the point of ridiculousness. The Congress can FUND the military and enact laws to govern the behavior of the military. The President, as Commander in Chief, can RUN the military. That is how the executive and legislative branches divide the duties relating to the armed forces, spelled out in extremely simple language in the constitution. Congress is not obligated to fund the military in the manner the President wishes, nor are they prohibited from at any point changing their minds. Congress is not trying to act as commander in chief, they are not trying to choose targets for bombing campaigns or picking which units get deployed where, they are simply being less free with their funding. I see nowhere in the Constitution that empowers the President to demand money from congress just because he's commander in chief. Republicans seem to view that as "dictator for life", but clearly that's not what is intended by that phrase.

I was a cop for 3 years and I could've used the same crazy logic that you are using anytime someone said that I should go lock up a criminal when they weren't willing to go do it themselves.

So Harvey when it comes to enforcing laws, If you don't have the balls to volunteer to go be a cop and put your own life on the line or spill your own blood, have the human decency to STFU! :|

If you followed the news back then, you would have known. Back then, Saddam threw out the UN inspectors. Everyone thought that he had some sort of WMD. Even the top UN inspector thought there were WMD in Saddam's hands. Everyone in the United States wanted to apply pressure on Saddam, so he would let the inspectors back in. Therefore, they voted for a resolution that gave Bush the option to go into Iraq, with force.

However, if you saw the senators speak after they voted, they, the Democratic ones at least, said that they voted for the resolution to apply pressure to Saddam. They urged caution in actually going into Iraq without a UN resolution, and called for full support from the members of the UN if they did ever go to war.

Of course, Bush took advantage of the situation, and went in there anyways to avenge Saddam's assassination attempt on his father.

I'm not sure if this is funny or sad...you still don't realize there's nothing left to win or lose in Iraq.

It's a forgone conclusion that your mission in Iraq was over a long time ago.

Congress gave up all it's power when nuclear Russia was around for first strike and quick retaliatory capability and never got it back. Like the President will ever sign that bill then you have wannabe's you're tying to get a 2/3'eds from.

As of 7/23/07 6:50 pm EDT, 3,636 (and rising) Americans have died in the Bushwhackos' war of LIES, three more than just a few hours ago. Anyone who doesn't support impeaching the Traitor In Chief and his cabal of criminals for this, alone, is far too willing to spill OTHER American blood and squander OTHER American lives. If you don't have the balls to volunteer to go Iraq and put your own life on the line or spill your own blood, have the human decency to STFU!

Great....then do so yourself!! On the crazy meter...you sir, are over the top.

We put our assess on the line here in Northern Iraq so that you can be as dim as you want to be...and that apparently is a lot. We should finish the job. Most soldiers feel the same you know. Even many of the Democrats feel this way.

Anyone that didn't read the documents that they signed are just wrong. Maybe more so for sending me into harms way without even thinking or reading about it. That shows how lightly they take things like sending soldiers to die. If they did read it, and voted for the war anyways, then at least they knew what they could know before sending me off to war. Either way...I'm here, and now that I am, I want to finish what we started.

Why don't you join us Harvey? I'd like to see you crap your pants the first time lead and armor meet near you! It would be better than a care package full of cookies!!!

Some of us have already been there and would go back again. Defeat and surrender is not an option for many of us. So take your hippie outrage and respectfully shove it.
I'm not sure if this is funny or sad...you still don't realize there's nothing left to win or lose in Iraq.

It's a forgone conclusion that your mission in Iraq was over a long time ago.

...because all your beliefs are 100% fact and there is no possiblity that you could ever be wrong on an issue?
