This is correct. It's possible the kitten isn't a true calico though. I agree with others that you need to make a vet appointment asap.

FWIW, don't be surprised if the cat never gets over the whole kneading/nuzzling thing. Our 10-year-old cat was taken away from her mother too early and she still kneads/nuzzles.....it's freakin' adorable actually.

uh oh.. i am hoping it's a "he" i can't handle a litter of cats 🙁

Uh well....you wouldn't have to worry about that for another several months. You should have it fixed in any case. Aside from the reproductive reasons, getting it fixed will help with marking, behavior and territoriality.

You can buy puppy formula... so maybe you can get cat formula too? My parents used that when raising 5 puppies after their mother died. All five are doing quite well ~1 year later.

Oy geez, I don't see that word enough. I saw "Oprahn" kitten, as in, a kitten that was somehow affiliated with Oprah. I seriously didn't get it for a minute or so. Then I read it a few more times. Horray for momentary dyslexia.

Good luck with the little critter, hopefully it pulls through.

A vet? What makes you people think vets are commonplace in India?

Well, I certainly wouldn't assume otherwise. It's not exactly Ethiopia either.

There are a lot of vets in India. He could go online and search for the nearest one.

This is gonna sound like a broken record but you need to get that ah heck off to the Humane Society NOW.

A lot of folks dont realize just how difficult it is to keep a baby kitty alive. Even professional breeders and such usually leave it with the mother for the first few months.

Let the experts have it. They know what to do.

Have you not gone to a vet yet? Or the Humane Society? It's great you want to keep it but at that young age, there are very important things you need to do to ensure it survies past the first week or two. Get to a vet ASAP!

Don't get too depressed if it dies, kittens are very difficult to raise without the mother.

It doesn't look too young, I remember being able to hold newly born kittens in one hand with plenty of room to spare. I'm thinking the eyes should've opened already.

hmm that's a cause for worry.. do i need to do something about it?

To be honest, if you want to prevent it from dying or getting very ill then take it to a Vet right away. Find out what you need to do to take care of it from the vet. That is its best chance to live and be healthy.

QFT...a kitten this small too should have been relatively near it's mother. Are you sure you didn't scare her away?

Goat's milk is hard to find in India? Hell, Gandhi even drank goat milk.

he probably lived near a bunch of goats I don't 😛

btw.. he is doing fine, eyes are opening up a little.. poops whenever i lift him, eating alright hope he doesn't take me to be his litterbox.. will update in a bit..

There is kitten powder formula you can buy at Pets Mart, or a good pet supply store, I'd do that. Have used it myself. Do take the cat to the vet, get it checked out. It looks old enough, it just might fair pretty well. Again, like others have said, you need to get the cat spayed when its a bit older, she won't have kittens, DO NOT LET HER OUTSIDE. She will indeed become pregnant eventually if you don't get her spayed. That is, if you want to keep her.

You can be a foster parent to the kitten, if it continues to do well, and you don't want to keep her. Put her up for adoption, I was able to get find a good home for a kitten on Craigslist. Posted a picture, got replies within hours of posting it.

I agree, that is a Calico. I have three of them (and 4 other mutt cats) and yes, calico's are all females.
A week or two will decide if you're doing a good job feeding her.

I had a female cat once that got pregant while she was still a kitten. We gave all them away, and she got pregnant again while she was still nursing (slut). She had a total of 11 kittens in 4 months by the time she was 9 months old. Then about a week after giving birth for the second time, she got hit by a car and we had to put her down.

I hand fed the four kittens about every two hours for six weeks. Got the formula from the vet. They all were healthy.

Be prepared to have that kitten bond to you so strong that you cannot go anywhere in the house without it being at your feet.

Not correct. There are male Calico cats. They are very, very rare, and even then are nearly always sterile, but they do exist.

If you are going to keep the kitten it is going to require a lot of work the first 2 weeks.

The most important thing to do is keep it warm, put warm water bottle or one of those pads that you heat up in there ( I micro waved a gel pad and wrapped socks around it) the kitten at that age cannot keep its self warm.

Get formula from vet, and a feeding syringe, feed it every 2 to 3 hours.

You are going to have to rub its belly front to back to get it to poop and then clean it up.

I had to do all of the above with my wife, it?s grown up and is the weirdest cat I have ever had, and it doesn?t even meow right.
