not to thread crap, but there hasn't been a good looking camaro since 1970. they're hard to beat for performance on a budget, though.

btw, you might want to call your insurance company before you invest in a V8 sports car.

with that said, have you thought of looking at a V6 camaro? the GM3800 V6 is a fantastic motor and will step out while still getting 30 mpg on the highway and cost you less for insurance.

If you think the LS1 is more reliable than the LT1 you are a fool. The LS1 is all aluminum. One minor overheat and you can kiss that aluminum block goodbye!

I own a modified 97 Z28 that I bought 2 years ago with 50k miles on it.. Mine is the anniversary edition. I paid like $9200.

I had to take it to the shop 4 times now (about $3k).. Don't expect it to be the most reliable car after it's been modified.

you have an LT1, i have an LS1. decent difference in the engine itself.

MIKE

LT1 is a more reliable engine at higher mileage. Anything >50k on a Camaro is high mileage. LT1 is steel; LS1 is aluminum.

Anyway.. here's some more reasons my car is better:

-Borla catback stainless steel exhaust system
-K/N cold air filter (probby same as yours)
-CSI electric water pump
-Eibach suspension (lowered 1.75")
-17" rims.. forget the brand.. but they're nice
-leather seats
-aftermarket stereo system.. 10" sub, 2 amps, 4 speakers, Sony mp3 cd player
-a few other modifications.. don't feel like going out to my car atm to look

oh ya.. I bought the car 2 years ago.

Dude, be a little patient. That car isn't that great and it's certainly not a deal by any means. You could probby pick up a 98 Trans Am for $7k.

"Probby" not. Unless he finds a bare bones, no options with high miles which I wouldn't do. If you are going to get a car like that it's worth it to get the WS6. Should hold out for a SS if you ask me, but the Z's are still nice cars. Too plain for me, I'm happy with my 2000 WS6. Good luck man.

bahahahaha, you just reccomended a car that i cant find ANYWHERE for under 18 grand (WS6).

Really? I paid 15K for mine. Only 29K miles on it. 6 Speed. Loaded. Where are you from? I knew 15K was pretty low, i found it on carsoup. Thought about putting it right on eBay and making some money on the deal, but I fell in love with it instantly. Insurance sucks since I'm only 19 but it's worth it if you really like cars enough.

The rear ends on them are known for blowing apart if you ever get perfect traction on a launch. I know because I have done it many many times. IF you buy one, spend $2200 immediately for an aftermarket 12 bolt or ford 9".

i dont have the money for a 15K one, but in my area, and anywhere i look, i havent found a decent WS6 other than maybe 1 for 15k.

MIKE

Yeah, I got lucky. I was just saying you wouldn't find one for 7K unless it wasn't worth buying. Camaros are different because there are more of them. I wouldn't pay more than 8K for the one you are looking at, depending how it drives. If everything is mechanically sound you can't really go wrong. I guess it kinda depends on luck.

i did just end up finding a Firebird Formula from 99 for 8,999 on carsoup in my area. it looks nice has 77K miles. pewter in color. although its an Auto, and the gas mileage on the Auto sucks ASS compared to the manual 6 speed.

If he wants $9900, you won't be getting it for somewhere around 8, unless that somewhere around 8 is $8999, maybe...If i was selling something for $10k and somebody offered $7k I'd tell them to stop wasting my time 🙂

Good point, but it doesn't hurt to start waving cash around in their face just to see if you can get them to move. Nothing wrong with trying. If not, Z28's are common enough, another one will turn up soon. Trust me, I spend months looking for my car, can't even remember how many I went through....

Yeah it does, you just end up insulting the person. I wouldn't deal with a person that wasn't even in the ballpark.

5.0's seem extremely reliable from what I've seen... I've known people who beat on them mercilessly and they hold up. Might get some problems with accessories and whatnot... but for the most part the engine is solid. The most severe damage I've seen was broke valve springs from being over-revved.

Personally, I can't stand the look of those Firechicken's, with the possible exception of the 2000+ WS6's..

However, that doesn't matter as long as you like it.

🙂

Has it got the LT1 or the LS1?
