I dont think you are going to have too much trouble there finding stuff to run on a older computer.

then we all might as well fill this forum with freeware posts.

Just wondering if anyone knows if thread crapping is also not allowed in here or is it just in FS/FT?

I am at a loss why you find this to be wrong? Plus you must not have a huge following because over 2000 have looked at this thread and only two have complained about this being here.
OH and I thought this was a good deal because unlike alot of other freeware site that have a few games this one has over 1000 in one place so to me I still feel a good find/deal.
If you know of a larger one with even more free games post it:p

Check out Seafarers of Catan 3D (Sea3D). It is a very popular board game that has been translated to a PC game. The board game is an expansion to the game Settlers of Catan and this program includes both. It allows network play as well. It worked for me in WinXP and 2000. The website also rated it 10/10.

Thanks for posting it here, otherwise I never would have found it. I don't read the other AT forums.

Maybe we need a rule about software threads. I'm guilty of posting "not a hot deal" theads too, but they weren't about free software, in which the "normal price" is always free. Plus, isn't there a sticky thread in software just for this?

I know that the Hot Deals forum can be occasionally slow at times, in terms of new deals, but I'm starting to lean in the direction of thinking announcements about normally-free software being free as being slightly off-topic here too.

Then again, I almost never check the software forum, and I did find that free lego-building software to be kind of neat that was posted in here earlier. So I don't know what the best solution is. Maybe we need a "Hot Deals - Software" sub-forum or something?

Edit: The site does look fairly legit, looks kind of like a portfolio of "amateur night at the games industry"-type games. But I have to ask the OP, you mentioned "elf bowling" as one of the games that you recommend - wasn't that one of the things that was going around in e-mail a few years back, that had some sort of trojan or virus attached to it? It's posible that the virus-spreading version was "stolen" from a freeware site like this and modified and passed around, but it still makes me nervous.

Thanks for the keeping what you feel shouldnt be here by bumping it and keeping it ontop:)

And I agree with you to a point BUT see mine. This is one legit site letting you download over 1000 games in one place. That to me is a hot deal. I can understand people listing sites that have a few here or there but this is a one of a kind to have that many. Maybe this should get a sticky and if people find other sites to PM them to me and I will update the thread with all the finds. This way it is all in one place and three people out of over 3000 might be happy with this.

I think I'm like most people on this site and view 100 threads at a time through a broadband connection...

[missing step]

Obviously, the only reason people post here instead of the appropriate forum is because they know their thread is sure to get lots more attention here...

Pardon me, but how can anyone deem one free giveaway of anything, really, more or less suitable for this board than any other free giveaway? There's more strings attached with the free Guinness magnet I informed the forums of a few months ago (you had to fill out a Guinness survey) than with this. Certainly nobody claimed that it didn't belong here on the grounds that it wasn't a sold item that was discounted to be free...

If the argument is just in regards to software, the logic still holds... anyone who doesn't know about Grisoft's AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (again, something that's always free and not a limited-time offer) is missing out on a HOT DEAL regardless of any semantic spin you want to put on it. If the concern is for spam, I think it's safe to say from the contents of the page (no abandonware or similarly legally gray content) as well as OP's post count that this does not appear to be a hit-and-run plug of a useless/potentially harmful site.

For the record, this looks to be a great source of time killers for me. I'm the type to have a dedicated "old games" box (210MHz PPro running Win98SE) so this is right up my alley. Plus I know I can find some stuff to throw on my mother's old Pentium laptop. Cheers, OP. Bump and a brew for you.

Thanks for your post, BUT, you don't need to keep repeating your justification for posting it here. Once earlier in the thread was sufficient. Let it go. ;)

Agreed. While certainly the above site is worth mentioning, threads of this type are much more suited to the software forum, with the key factor (regardless of the collective repository nature the above site offers) being the fact mentioned previously - free software being free at all times, and thus not qualifying as a deal.

This in no way diminishes the above mentioned site, or the intentions of the original poster. Also would be remiss not to mention (mostly for the benefit of said original poster) that attempting to reach a conclusion based on user views and comments is a somewhat flawed approach. Many choose not to comment, and thus no real conclusion based on these "statistics" can be drawn.

Ok, one last bump from me in this thread. :)

Here's the two stickied threads in the software forum. The first appears to be dedicated to downloadable, free, games, and the second, for pretty much any other type of software.

Free Full Computer Games

Post COOL and USEFUL programs here

So you see, the appropriate threads already have a sticky. :)

Feel free to add your find to the threads though, because that site is pretty neat.

Yeah I think I am going to drop trying to justify why I stuck this up. I mean if there was a problem the mods would of moved it or locked it. And if they happen to atleast I was able to turn on people to it that have mentioned that because of me putting it here they would of never found it or seen it elsewhere.
So what ever happends or if your pissed its here, I dont care.:p Im loaded with free games and apps from there and will be getting more after I go through the hundreds I already got. :D

I don't think anyone should have to justify or put down this post. If it is in the wrong place a Moderator will move it or lock it down. If you don't think it should be here PM a Mod and let them decide. If you do think it should be here, say thanks to the OP and keep dLing the freebies.

You "Police" wannabe's need to move on :D

Exactly what I said...Hot Deals forum = exposure and sometimes, getting attention is important.

If I had something I wanted everyone to see (charities I support, marriage announcement, etc.) , I'd definitely put it here first...regardless of how on topic it was :)

No brainer PSA

I'm all for free stuff but 1 or 2 of the things I downloaded tried to install Spyware/Malware.

One snuck in (some type of rebate-status thing) that neither Ad-Aware SE or Spybot (both using latest def. files) could detect. I only found it by doing a standard, for me, look at the RUN key in the registry.

It was a little b!tch to remove - took me almost an hour to trace it as it was self-healing and had bad effects on your browser if you didn't do it right.....
