They are letting me work from home 1 day a week, hopefully I can up that to 3 and just keep my current job... 2 days a week 170 miles total wouldnt be bad

In your first post you complained about maintenance & gas. How much do you spend on that every month? Is that not an issue now?

You only get 3 weeks? Meaning 15 days? wtf? I get 25 days and I just started but I am in England though.

Contract = if you don't work = no pay but you get paid more then if you were on on a salary.

Different countries. In the USA, most people only get one or two weeks (5 to 10 days) off in entry level jobs.

OHHHHHHHHHHHH...I see.

I'm a 'Test Engineer' (fancy title, doesn't mean much :p) and I get 25 days but I work at a some what big company. It is pretty normal in England to get 20 days off. I got 25 days so I am happy. I guess it is just built in to the English job market.

Maybe why you guys are doing better economy/ business wise? When we are on holiday you are working!

We did.... 85 miles for me, 35 miles for her. I am more likely to find a new job than she is to find a new school, so we erred on the side of my job. Plus that was the best spot for buying a house cost/and we found something we liked.

I'd ask the wife to be a stay at home mom.
Isn't 51k pretty sweet for Wisconsin living ?

Interesting. I'd be pissed at 3 weeks but that is defiantely low in England and people aren't use to it, but you earn $51k and I don't :p

I hope I get my new job. I had an assessment with them the other week and hopefully I'll hear back from them within 7-10 days. It has been 7 days since the assessment and I thought it went really well. It is closer so I'll do 20% less commuting, better career prospects, 38% more money also and more fun. Hopefully I'll get in to Management Consultancy :)

Yup. I did a daily 200 mile commute for half a year and it was fine.

My friend, what car did you drive, and what did you do for the 2hrs each way?

I was offered $80/hr using a headhunter for a contract position just a few months ago. I turned it down since I wanted a permanent job and besides the position didnt pay for healthcare and other expenses.

Saab 900S. I mostly thought about stuff. Other times I'd blast Trance or Metal and think about stuff. Eating on the way breaks it up some too if you can get on and off the freeway quickly, though I seldom did.

I'd be all over it like an Indian guy on a cell phone in the bathroom.
