Was out mowing the yard and moved one of my drain spouts. Lo and behold, there was a baby Rattlemouth Cottonback.
Damned deadly, I got lucky he didnt tag me when I reached under the drain!

Behold pics of the deadly beast.

I'm lucky to be here, I can tell ya that much. You dont wanna mess around with a Rattlemouth Cottonback.

That is a common garter snake and is not venomous...

But . . . that variety of trouser snake is known to spit venom . . .

Isn't that exactly what you were doing with this snake? Messing around with it? Trying to capture it in a glass jar? Taking pictures of it, from only meters away? If it really is that deadly, why on earth wouldn't you call the relevant authorities?

LOL, what i was thinking. Doesn't add up if you dont want to be "messing around with it" but you are taking :camera: of it.

I came across a King Cobra before. Good thing it was only a baby. No, I didn't try to mess with it, I backed off as soon as I got my pictures.

Thats actually a harmless subset of the cobra.
Thats a Cobraliti Non-Venomosa. Remember the old saying
"Black touch yellow kill a fellow, pink touch black the fangs have no smack"

You could have played with him all day.

lol, I have never heard that before. I actually do get rattle snakes in my backyard. The babies ones are hard to tell because they don't have a rattle and look close to other snakes. We have gotten a couple of full grown rattle snakes in our yard and those can be very scary. It takes forever to kill them with a shovel too.

The first clue should be that there is no rattle. The second clue is that shape of the head is not consistent with that of a rattlesnake.

There's no such thing as a Rattlemouth Cottonback. Maybe a cottonmouth rattlesnake or a diamondback rattlesnake.

Neither one is extremely lethal anyway. I'm pretty sure there aren't any super lethal snakes in North American at all.

The snake pictured isn't poisonous at all.
