Was out mowing the yard and moved one of my drain spouts. Lo and behold, there was a baby Rattlemouth Cottonback.
Damned deadly, I got lucky he didnt tag me when I reached under the drain!

Behold pics of the deadly beast.

Isn't that exactly what you were doing with this snake? Messing around with it? Trying to capture it in a glass jar? Taking pictures of it, from only meters away? If it really is that deadly, why on earth wouldn't you call the relevant authorities?

My sarcasm meter might be picking something up, but I am not sure, it has been flakey lately. Is it just a garder snake or something?

That was my first guess based on the color and pattern. However the one decent head shot shows a distinct 'Y'-shaped marking. It's probably a young milksnake before it's adult coloration comes in.

Yesssssss, picked up on that one. It's going to be a good day, lol!

(P.S. I know nothing at all about snakes, so I would still be way to scared to approach any snake and play with it!)

Depending on the region they come from some have bands, some have various spots, but they are not venomous

I think I was mistaken. Actually I think its a Copperheaded Water Rattler.

Or, it could just be a plain ole Brown Snake

Which are incredibly venomous. You can read about their venom Here

I live in Kansas. But Kansas Browns are almost as bad as Austry browns. While ours dont have as much venom, they are *quite* a bit smaller which makes them a bit more dangerous really.
I'd still rather mess with a Kansas Brown then an Austry Brown or even a Cottonbacked Rattleband though. Most of the Cottonbacked Rattlebands are farther down south though.

I suggest you carefully re-read and contemplate the inner meaning of ThePresence's post above before being so dismissive.

Dude, I speak on behalf of those of us who actually recognized the thing as harmless when I say that was and excellent story! Rattlemouth Cottonback, that's a classic..
