Put it out of its misery. A few good whacks with a shovel and its off to the trash can in a plastic bag. That's what I do with injured birds. Especially pigeons.
I don't know why everyone hates pigeons so much, I think they're really neat and amazing birds.

I was kinda fuzzy on the subject myself, so after a bit of googling.. apparently there is no true scientific difference between a pigeon and a dove. Doves are just usually the smaller breeds of pigeons.

Interesting.

I still say it's a dove. 😛

I did that once but she reported me to the police, what a stool pigeon. 😛

Sounds like a homing pigeon (doves = pigeons, I believe) since it's letting you hold it. See if you can find a registry somewhere online and look up the info on the bird's tag.

??????

that would be my guess as well

Thanks for that info, ill take a closer look at the tag. Also this bird is kind of fat 😕 I wonder if it is a pregnant female 😕

That's a crappy picture, but from it I would say that it is not a dove.

Take a picture of it and post it around the neighborhood "Found bird, call xxx." We found a cockateil a few years ago and did that, but we still have it.

whatever you do, dont feed it white bread, it has no nutritional value for the birds.

find out if there's an animal sanctuary (bird sancuary would be even better) close to home. make sure they're somewhat liberal (although most are) or they'll probably put it to sleep and not make too much of an effort. at least i think they will.

have them take care of it. they're trained and funded to care for sick animals.

I'll agree with xyyz there. I've been a bird owner for years, so I sympathize with the creature. Chances are there is a pretty good reason the bird can't fly if it isn't already apparent (I didn't see in your post what it was). At the very least, have a vet check it over. That is a beautiful bird you have there. Hopefully you'll find its owner, or at the very least, make sure it is alright. Good luck.

It is a dove.

It will eat regular millet birdseed, but if you are going to keep it you should get pigeon food, which should be available at any good feed store(Not pet store, feed store... like that sells horse etc stuff...)

Why can't it fly? Is it obviously hurt? Will it let you hold it?

If so, gently spread each of its wings out and examine them for damage.. Be gentle, it could have a broken wing. I'm not entirely sure how to tell if a wing is broken, but I'd imagine that it would not let you open its wing if it hurt severely. If it makes any noise, definately stop.

It may just be sick and not have enough energy to fly. Give it lots of fluids and keep it warm.

Let us know how it goes.
That's a pigeon, not a dove. The beak is wrong. A true test would be to know its size.

If it was a bet it's wings could have been clipped.
Since the OP is from Jersey, and alot of people there raise pigeons for racing, the bird probably got hurt and crashed landed. He should take it to a vet and then look up its owner if possible.

I have 5 cockateils and 1 parakeet,

The cockateils are the best birds i have ever owned, they fly straight to your shoulder and keep you company singing songs and what not. They are really neat pets, and also have a personality depending on bird to bird.
