Out of curiosity are any of your Carlton builds on the Storefront? I haven't built my car yet and other than the basic tuning rules I'd love to have a relatively well set up car. If not I'll survive.
I'm such a mooch...
there's nothing to be set up except for tire inflation and brake bias. i like to run with slightly deflated like 27 or so tires but u can leave it stock and it will run well.
On a side note, why do I feel it's just Kabob, Famous, and myself this week.. between this thread and the enduro thread...![]()
My buddy Dave plans on running with us.
This weeks car...*drumroll please*
SPEC Lotus Carlton's @B500.
Cheap build that is really well balanced and easy to drive, and SPEC means SPEC. I know there are suspension upgrades that can be done with this build that will not change the PI but lets keep it fair.
Build as follows (assists are your choice as always)...
F/R Forza Aero maxxed 100/200lbs
Sport Tires w/max F/R width upgrades
TSW Trackstar 4 wheels Stock diameter
Stock Driveline EXCEPT:
Sport Clutch
Sport Trans 4.33:1 ratio
Stock Suspension EXCEPT:
Race Brakes (modable for balance/pressure for the non-abs'ers)
Sport Springs & Dampers
Race Cage
Street weight reduction
Stock Engine EXCEPT:
Sport oil & cooling
I must admit I really enjoyed driving this car, not sure why. I have a few questions though
1. The 4:33:1 trans ratio. Is that the same as setting the final drive ratio to 4.33?
Yes, it is the same. He just displayed it here in the correct final drive ratio.
2. Why did you choose to go with max aero and race cage instead of race suspensions and just tightening them?
Max Aero and Roll Cage is a much easier handling upgrade than messing with the suspension. The suspension would be a mess to deal with for a SPEC race where all the cars are built the same.
3. Your use of the race cage is very interesting as the description says it allows the full use of the suspension. Is this a practice that is common? Is it wise to use the race cage in builds because of the full use thingy?
The race cage is going to decrease the lean of the car left or right. It stiffens the body of the car so the suspension can more easily work to turn the car through a corner.
Im really trying to get this tuning thing to click with me instead of just buying tunes, I really wanna understand why some works and some don't and also pinpoint if my bad driving is due to bad tune or just noobness.
I really wish you could look at the tunes off of the storefront. That would help you out a great deal. The best thing to do is to use a tuning calculator and then start adjusting stuff to the maximum. That will allow you to understand more of what it does and how it affects the car's handling abilities. Start with the tire pressures and work your way across the tabs. It sounds silly but it may help it all 'click'
Appreciate any replies.
Also, would it be possible for the weekly chosen car to be put at the top of the post. Its really a pain to wade through pages upon pages to refer to a chosen car. Word!!

Anymore questions you have feel free to ask. I am not the most mechanically inclined person but I do understand how things work on racing games...for the most part.![]()
My other buddy plans on racing with us tonight. He's nervous as he's never played FM3 online (and hasn't played the game much as it is...he bought my old 360 when I got a Jasper). I told him it didn't matter if he was fast or not, just race clean and have fun.
HOPEFULLY he'll join in.
