I'll work on that tomorrow GCS. Haven't had much time this weekend to mess with the car. It does the same thing for me.

Thanks waldo/abel. I'll give it a shot. I've spent a little time with the car and it's got grip for days. I've been reading that some drivers go with as much as -2.0 camber on front rear. I'll try and play around this evening. I can't get the tires to warm up.

Well,

A few things I have learned while tuning this car. That online calculator is horrible and the Elise isn't as bad as I once thought.

I have exorcised the demons in this car and it is now something to be proud of. Big thanks to my friends at TKR for the assistance (not that they ever read these boards)

I am just going to kill the last setup and make this the new setup post. All modifications are staying the same. Wholesale changes on the tuning.

I have posted a top 600 time on Laguna Seca. 1:25.142. If you have problems with this car during braking then increase the delecration differential to 50% or above if needed. Note that this will increase understeer in the car.
Car:

2003 Lotus Elise 135R
After upgrades this car should be in the A850 class.

Upgrades:

Engine and Power-

Cams and Valves - Lotus Sport - Race Cams and Valves
Engine Block - Lotus Sport - Race Engine Block

Car should have 238 hp and 198 lb-ft tq after these two upgrades.

Platform and Handling:

All are the option to very right.

Tires and Rims:

Tire Compound - Race Tire Compound
Tire Width - Widest tire (to the right)
Wheels - Fikse Profil 13

Body and Aero:

Front Bumper - Forza Race Front Bumper
Rear Wing - Forza Race Rear Wing

Tires-

Tire Pressure -
Front 29PSI
Rear 27PSI

Gearing:

Final Drive - 3.26
1st - 2.85
2nd - 1.99
3rd - 1.51
4th - 1.24
5th - 1.06
6th - 0.92

Note: Not all gears will be used. This isn't a high speed car.

Alignment:
Camber -

Front -(negative)0.6deg
Rear -(negative) .06deg

Toe:

Front - (positive)0.1deg
Rear - (positive)0.1deg

Front Caster- (Positive) 4.2deg

Anti-Roll Bars:

Front - 10.00
Rear - 25.00

If you can't get it to an even number then increase the stiffness as far as it will go then adjust back down.

Springs:

Front- 196.0 lb/in
Rear - 258.9 lb/in

Ride Height:

Front- 4.9in
Rear - 3.3in

Damping:
Rebound Stiffness-
Front - 9.0
Rear - 11.0

Bump Stiffness-

Front- 4.9
Rear- 5.9

Aero -

Front - 125lbs
Rear - 150lbs

Braking -

43% front
Pressure- 66%

If you use ABS then change pressure to 110%. With the above setting ABS isn't really needed on this car.

Differential-

Rear-

Acceleration 15%
Deceleration 20%

Changelog -

3/23/08

All tuning has changed except the Aero.

Nice changes on the tune. Was able to run a 1:25.253 I think without too much trouble, good for top 700. There's definitely at least another half second in there and I had it going several times but had a slight mistake to lose it.

The car definitely turns better now. It doesn't like trail braking though. The major thing I've learned that is different with this car is to brake and then turn not brake and turn at the same time.

Good to know.

I'll make the changes tonight and hit the track for a bit. Hopefully I'll run better now.

Thanks Waldo!!

No, it doesn't like trail braking all that much. It's better about it now, I think, but it definitely drives better now than it did yesterday afternoon. It's a lot easier to control.

I want to crack 1:24 and then start working some other tracks. And paint my car... I'm completely lacking in inspiration this week. There are some weird angles on the Elise that make it tough to paint, too.

Anybody wanna practice? I still can't get my tires up to temp. The car handles like a dream though.

If you guys run tonight, let me know. I can probably run for about an hour to get some last minute seat time in the car.

I'll be on around 8:00. It seems if I put more weight forward (by driving, not tuning) it turns like a dream, but still can't get front tires much above 165 degrees. Driving with no assists for testing. Putting the brake bias just a tad more forward may help?

I re-ordered Forza the other day, throw me on the list and I'll try to join up with you (Wednesday nights actually work well for me).

I tried the new setup briefly last night. I couldn't drive without ABS on. Just couldn't do it. I was all over the place even with the pressure all the way down to what Waldo put it at.

I've spent more time with my paint job than driving this week unfortunately. :)

I think I need to contract out my painting or something. You guys always have better paintjobs than I do. I completely lack inspiration :)

I'm not even going to bother trying to run without ABS. I'm pretty happy with how fast I can run with it. I don't see a lot of point in trying to fix what ain't broke.

I find my inspiration just by seeing a cool looking picture or drawing from anywhere, advertisements, other websites, company logos, etc... I have a huge collection of images that I've saved over the years that I saved simply because they looked good to me. Once you have an image in mind, hopefully not too complicated, sketch it out by hand using circles, ovals, rectangles, triangles, etc. Then use the paint shop in game to recreate those generic shapes into your image and to make it fit in style with your car. There are plenty of guides on how to make images in the Forza paint shop. I have a few ideas for future paint jobs that I can share or get you started if you want.

The last couple of weeks, I've actually gone in with one idea of what I want to do with a car and went a completely different direction once I started working on it.

This week, I made my own special vinyl group so we'll see how it turns out. :)

I've got a starting point for what I'd really like in a car and I actually tried starting it but it got complicated quickly and didn't look that great. If I could get it to look proper, I'd most likely paint every single car this same way and swear off the paintjob contest because I'd be content with my creation and could never do anything to top it. You guys would most likely feel differently :p

I'm a diehard Clemson fan. A Clemson car would thrill me to no end. The Tiger Paw I made was pretty bad, though, lol. I guess I need to give it another go.

Yea, no ABS is hard to get used to. Push the pressure back to 100 or 110% and have at it. The brakes on the Lotus make it stop on a dime. Almost work TOO well. I think the 60-0 distance is something stupid like 88ft.

If I recall, the weight is around 1500lbs, and with near perfect weight distribution I would think those big ol' rotor brakes would slow it down pretty quick

A quick google search says that the 2005 stock elise does 60-0 in 116ft, so maybe all those weight reduction and brakes mods reduce the distance down more 28 ft?

Well I just practiced for 20 mins and I still suck.

It's better than it was but damn my a$$ is still all over the place. I know it's my driving!

BTW you guys are exactly right though about the braking. You have to get it done before you turn. I can power out of turns really well now but get your braking out of the way asap.
