Anyone care to share a gearing calculator at the last minute with an old friend? 🙂

I can't seem to find anything decent in my Google searching...

Good racing guys. Lots of fun as always. Well, maybe a little less (stupid bug 🙂 )
CK I watched that Mugello replay and I really did get into you. Sorry.
Spidey I watched Suzuka to see what you were talking about and I think you lagged into the back of my car. I absolve myself on that one! I couldn't keep that bug in line though I was all over all night.
I need to get back on the wheel to get rid of the twitchiness too.

Ok the theme for 6/4 is A850 Japanese All-Stars. I tryied to get a variety of closely matched cars here. I built and ran every one of these. If anyone wants to borrow their car from me from now until after racing next week you?re more than welcome to it. It will come with my baseline setup for it on it ready to go. I only ask that you don?t change parts on a borrowed car. Tune it to your heart?s content.

If you build your own these are the guidelines:
335-375HP ? you?ll see in the list there are a couple minor outliers
2400-2600 lbs. ? also a couple minor outliers
Racing slicks are a must ? widest tires are preferred and were used for these cars ? I tested stock width more HP vs. widest less HP and the wider tires won for me
Lightest or close to lightest wheels ? I had to use slightly heavier-than-lightest wheels on a few cars
All Forza aero parts ? front, rear top and bottom ? I left them set to middle downforce but feel free to change
Side skirts when available
Lightest hoods when available
Max out all handling pieces in the handling section
Exception ? some cars should not have full wt. reduction, only second to last

Questions, comments and protests are welcome.
Feel free to trade amongst yourselves if you wish.

It's all good. The only reason I whined more than usual was because I was actually having a decent start to a race. That only happened a few times last night. But I "got into" people more than normal all night, so I'm sure I deserved it.

EDIT: And Skinnee's lazy butt must be sleeping in this morning... Cat & Mouse too much for you, big guy?

Interesting list, although I think some cars are much better than others. The NSX-R that so randomly 😉 landed in your lap is a leaderboard car on most handling tracks and would completely destroy the other cars on the list.

Good racing last night guys. I really did not like the Bug but I guess I set my car up a little different than others so I could get around the corners a little better. I seriously didn't expect to win a single race the way that stupid car was doing during testing sessions. I would run 10 laps on a track and have to take a break because no matter what I did I couldn't get the car to turn. What I did end up doing was increasing the F-ARB to 20ish and the R-ARB to 27ish and it seemed to help the car. Was a little stiff with some wheel hop but I can handle better than a car that won't turn!

Time to buy it and practice 😎

Thanks for this weeks pick Arby.

You seemed to have a pretty good handle on it, from my perspective. I felt like I did okay last night. Got a couple wins at Laguna and Silverstone (still don't know how that happened, I don't think I'd have gotten by you if not for your stereo). Had a good shot at Road Atlanta but flubbed up the braking behind blowfish into the chicane. Was running second at that point. Fell back to fourth after that nonsense and was able to work my way back to third at the end of the race. Really sad that I missed out on Sebring, though. 🙁 That's quickly becoming one of my favorites. I think I finished a solid second or third pretty much all night, so not too bad overall.

I'm going to pretend C&M didn't happen...

Sorry, I wasn't talking/listening at all and dropped out last night guys. My wife was in my ear all night so I had to basically play without my headset so I could hear her. I had promised her I would get something done last night so I then had to drop out to get that taken care of. At least me leaving kept the room from being one over!

I'll try and get the paint job poll up tonight or tomorrow.

No worries Queasy, as long as everything is ok that's all that matters.

LMK if you need any pics as I have a few replays from last night. You may need Luigi's car since I don't think you got the chance to race with him.

Took me a while to get used to the bug. The stock handling was terrible, and the tuning calculator helped a bit, but it still wasn't enough. Rather than making everything stiffer like Abel/Waldo said above, I softened up the front a whole lot. Normally the tuning calculator suggests you make the front stiff and the rear a little softer, but after the first race I went in and made the rear about as stiff as the front, and then made the front a lot softer than the original value for the rear. That helped with turning a lot. I only adjusted the springs and the anti-roll bars, not the damping, and it improved the car so much. After that I was able to do better than last place.

This should be an interesting race next week... not sure how even it will be. On the one hand, the car I've been given (Evo VIII) has a significantly lower top speed rating than all the rest, but it's also better than the average in all other areas (acceleration, braking, and handling). Being an AWD car, it's subject to some understeer, but at the same time, I can tune that out while keeping it super easy to control, and AWD cars tend to accelerate really well too.

By the way, the average values for the cars chosen this week are:

Speed: 5.2
Acceleration: 5.4
Braking: 6.1
Handling: 5.9

Thanks for the feedback guys.

That makes sense about the NSX waldo. I can honestly say I didn't check the leaderboards for these. I just went through the Japanese manufacturers left to right and bought 1 or 2 cars, set them up and drove them. The NSX felt nice to me with point and shoot accuracy, so I went with it. I see why it felt good. The other top cars for me feel-wise were the skyline, and I always do decent with the WRX, I have a few miles on my '04 in the game.

As far as any of the cars being "much" better than others, I don't have that feeling. There will be differences, but I think they balance out well. It comes down more to driver fit to the car.
I'm going off of memory here, but I think the best I did on laguna last night in the NSX was a 1:26.9, my PB is a low low 1:26 in the elise. I then turned around and did a 1:27.1 in the DLC EVO X (A850 AWD 2500lbs. 375HP). My point there being that in my experience as of yet it is not a total destroyer of worlds, at least in my hands. I tested all the cars back to back on Road Atlanta and for me they were all within a second, and I vary .5 second alone from lap to lap. Kind of inconsistent, especially when tired. So I really feel that the cars are a good matchup overall. About as close as you can get without all having the same car.

I will toss out there that the S2000 and the RX8 are twitchy feeling to me but they can probably be softened up. I didn't spend time tweaking them out. Another thing about the S2000 is that while it does have 379HP, it could barely torque the lid off a new jar of skippy, so keeping speed up in the corners is key.
The EVO is the slowest car, but hey it'll get off the line out front for Luigi and give great handling and braking to work with 🙂

Maybe in the next couple days I'll drive each one again at Road Atlanta and post up my times. Also, if anyone wants to borrow their car or another just ask.

p.s. I'll switch to the EVO X if noone likes the NSX pick.

The fairlady should be fun, haven't driven it yet. Isn't it a DLC car? I've been meaning to pick up some car packs. Maybe loan it and I'll try it out and return, no parts changed.

The one I listed is original to the game. There is a free 350Z (2007?) as part of the free Nissan car pack.

It would be nice if everyone at least downloaded all the free cars. Doing so allows you to race against and see the actual DLC car model instead of a green ghost.

In a perfect world we would all have Road America and Motegi too but I'm not pushing that. 🙂

Spidey I can get that car to you later this afternoon as soon as I get home and it's yours through Wednesday if you want it.

Downloading ANY DLC car will allow you to see any DLC car. I have not purchased any DLC cars but because I D/Led the free ones I can see even ones I haven't purchased.

Well Arby, Waldo, OSJ, or anyone with S2000 experience I am all ears on what I should do with the car. While my skills have vastly improved since the first race night I am not the tuner/tweaker you guys are so I welcome any and all advice.

Arby -- How does the S2000 do?? Is it like the bug or the minis?? I actually got comfortable with the bug. It was a friggin' beast to handle at times but I felt like I had the hang of it for most of the night (hence my finishing 2-4 almost every race). It could have used a lot more tweaking I'm sure.

My favorite car we have driven to date -- Mugen Integra, Mini cooper second.

LMK your thoughts please.

Thanks!

Greg

You give me too much credit 🙂 I'm not a tuner by any definition of the word, really. I just upgrade the parts to what I like in a car and then use a calculator and after that, I just adapt to what the car does. I didn't really do anything special to the Beetle outside softening the front springs. My tuning knowledge is limited to gear ratios and downforce.

I will say that you've come a long long way from your first race, there's no doubt about that. There's a huge improvement. I know a couple times when I got by - Laguna and Road Atlanta, I think - it was tough and I had to brake late and manage to hold the line to get by. And you held me off at Suzuka for several laps, I believe.

Thanks OSJ

Yeah I have been happy with my performance. Some weeks I am just on it (mini week, bug week) and some weeks I am not (solstice, heavyweights, lotus, etc etc). So far I have liked almost all the cars we have used EXCEPT rotary week -- I will NEVER drive another RX. Me and that car were not on the same wavelength.

The Prelude, Solstice, and Bug are all cars that I felt I got the tune and my driving habits to mesh together. I know the all had some more tuning potential but I really felt that I understood what I could and couldn't do with the car and thus I was able to be more consistent. Last night's Bug though caused a lot of havoc on the track and as long as I avoided that havoc and ran a steady race I stayed near the front (nice feeling being there LOL!).

My only frustration lately has been that I will be racing well sometimes (sometimes for a short while, sometimes for most of the race) and I just straight up blow it OR worse no matter how good I drive I just cannot get passed you guys or hold you off. I know this part is just patience and practice -- 2 things I am working hard on to improve.

As they say with most sports the game 90% mental and truth be told I think that Forza racing is the same. If I shut my brain off, stop watching others (Michael Jordan syndrome) and just drive I do much better. It's when that lump 3 feet above my a$$ kicks into gear I get into trouble .

I have really enjoyed Wed night races and look forward to them each week. I may go into withdrawals after next week though since I won't be racing for 2 weeks straight 🙁.

That's good to know. I just downloaded the free cars / packs the other night, the green ghost kept messing me up on soltice night C&M, at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Anyone know if you can have more than one copy of the same car in your garage at the same time?

The Forza nights have become a smashing success. We seem to lose people every now and then but we seem to pick up people rather quickly to replace them. Everyone who has been around for a month or more have improved significantly compared to when we first started. It makes for great competition and I enjoy it now more than I did now. Kudos to the whole crew for improving as a whole.

You can have multiples of the same car in your garage.

Well you basically restated what I meant but I guess leaving the s off of the word model made my statement a little unclear.
When you download the one free car for each of the three packs the other cars in the pack will at least be visible to you on the track 🙂 Yes.

Okay I sent off loaners to luigi, blowfish, and spidey.

Waldo, I sent you a special Supra that maybe you can try on and see how it fits. 🙂 If you like how it drives feel free to use it on Wednesday!

Blowfish drive that S2000 and let me know how it goes. I'll make a duplicate here and try it out again.
