So my wife is on a mothering-board and they just found out that a group of about 13 or 14 had created a "secret" board where they copied over post and pictures from the main site and then just made fun of them, all while maintaining "good friendships" with the people on the real board. My wife had gone to lunch with them, watched kids together, bought them gifts, called them when they were upset, etc.., and all they did was mock her and our family.

What the heck is wrong with people like that?? Has this ever happened on Anandtech that anyone knows of??

I know with guys, if I think someone is being stupid, I tell them. They then tell me to piss off, we play a game, and all is fine. Howfreakin lame is it that they have to actually take time out of their day to go write bad things about other people in order to make them feel better about themselves, all while maintaining an alter-ego on another board??

Just seems so childish and stupid to me.

How is it any worse than that group of people at work that makes jokes about the higher-ups all day and goes to lunch by themselves? Cliques exist everywhere, and the Internet is no exception.

Most women are like that.

The internet just provides a new conduit.

No. I think that his wife is part of a forums with other wives. Those wives made fun of her and the OP. Meaning adults are talking about the OP's family. Did I gather that correctly?

I would never assume that it doesn't happen in real life, but what is the point?? If you have a problem with someone, talk to them. I mean honestly, how pathetic do you have to be to talk about someone like that while pretending to like them. Just tell them up front you don't like them.

I understand it's a fact of life that some people can be idiots. I'm pretty sure we're all idiots at some point in our life, if not many points. But this just seems beyond stupid.

A similar thing happened on a Chrisitian discussion board that I used to frequent. The proprietor of the site got a bug up his butt one day, and he basically started trolling his own forums with blatant flame-bait and then systematically banning anyone that so much as questioned him.

The "refugees" created a separate forum where discussion wasn't stifled by a despotic administrator. It's actually doing pretty well on its own, considering that it isn't a connected with any other site, per se. It basically consists entirely of persons estranged from the aforementioned Christian forum.

I think one of the big differences (sorry, I don't mean to sound sexist here) is that females seem to like to do that more than males. The guys here aren't afraid to tell it like it is. (Nor are the few females who are on this site.) Why do you think females always go to the bathroom in pairs? (speculating here:) It's so they can gossip about something that just happened.

in general they seem more catty towards each other too

compare the length of a relationship of a guy and his best friend to a girl and her best friend

a lot of women change best friends on a yearly basis or 2

many guys have had the same best friend for 5+ years

Hmmm...guess I am the exception. I have had the same best friend for over 30 years. Met her in 2nd grade and have remained close ever since. We even have kids the same age...
