I used to post on the craigslist open forum boards...after a while, they organized a few meetups, and then almost immediately they would start posting anonymously bad things about the people they met. it was pretty despicable. i stopped posting there after that. its amazing what people would do under the cover of anonymity on the internet.

Don't a lot of people break away from certain forums for certain reasons and start their own? Take a look at GenMay for example. Most of their user base was from HardForums.

My wife had gone to lunch with them, watched kids together, bought them gifts, called them when they were upset, etc.., and all they did was mock her and our family.

What the heck is wrong with people like that?? Has this ever happened on Anandtech that anyone knows of??

I know with guys, if I think someone is being stupid, I tell them. They then tell me to piss off, we play a game, and all is fine. Howfreakin lame is it that they have to actually take time out of their day to go write bad things about other people in order to make them feel better about themselves, all while maintaining an alter-ego on another board??

Just seems so childish and stupid to me.

uh dude, it happens here every day, except i don't think people here hide it. look at some of the posts on this forum, deosn't it seem childish and stupid to you?

Ah, sorry about that.

One of our friends, who is also on the larger forum, has a tracker on her blog, so that she knows how people go to it. So she was looking at it one day and realized that there were about 12 hits from the same site. So she typed it in to see what the site was. It asked for a username and password, so she just ignored it and went to bed.

She woke up in the middle of the night really feeling she should look into it, so she went back and tried the generic "username: admin, password: password", which worked. Sign number one that these people need help.

After she got in, she saw who was involved and what they were doing and reported it back to the main board. That site has now been closed and they've been kicked off the main board.

Most of the stuff about my family was how stupid our son's name is, Frederick, and how ugly our daughter is. There were a few other things, but I'll keep those to myself. Personally, I don't care if people think that me, my wife, or any of my family members are ugly. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Just tell me up front. Don't lie to me and then good rag on them on your own "private" board.

Like I said, I don't mind that people say it, just don't do it behind their backs. Like you say, we just don't hide it here.

This seems to be a fairly common phenomenon on the net. I've seen a couple forums set up strictly to mock other forums.

I've even had a couple people try to copy/mock my humble messageboard with the intent of stealing all of our members but I believe that boards started with such evil intent are destined to fail in the end. When your foundation is hate you are screwed from the get go.

I'm confused. If it's named "Athiest Apologetics Research Ministry" and is an anti-CARM board, why are so many Christians?

Your wife and son are beautful. Fvck those dvmbfvcks. Honestly, it's all about insecurity and a feeling of power. It's like Lord of the Flies, on a diminished scale. What these people really need is a great big mother-fvcking tragedy to put some perspective in where their brains are missing.

I'll break their godd4mn knees any time you say, just let me know.

Thanks man, that's really nice to hear. I think they're beautiful as well. I think possibly the reason these people feel this way is because they have had tragedy in their life and need to shootdown others to feel better about themselves.

I'll keep you posted on the knee breaking. :)

don't let 'em get to you. They'll get theirs in the end, especially if you're the kind of person to believe that God is watching all of this go down

lol your wife goes to a forum full of women, and don't expect that? Instead of talking badly about one another, they just post it on a forum. Maybe they didn't have time to talk on the phone to gossip.

It's not really and "atheist forum," per se. It was started by an atheist, and when he created it he named the forum in jest. It was really just a place for people to go when they got fed up with the rife opression and hypocrisy of the old-forum administrators. Such was so bad that it drove away just as many Christians as Atheists, and the "atheist board" was basically created to be free for the taking anyway.

Unfortunately, this kind of stuff doesn't only happen online: in real life, they're called back-stabbers. I had one bastard guy that was one. He used to make friend with everyone in his path by mocking the friend that he made in his path. For example, let's say he meets a short, fat, ugly guy before me. He'll strike up a nice conversation with them, and then when he would come to me, since I don't know that guy, he would start saying stuff that he wouldn't normally say to his face. And this isn't only with guys he doesn't know. I also said he does it with good friends. Weirdos, if you ask me.
