~~~~ Forum Search Issues ~~~~
We have had several threads reporting problems with our Forum Search system. Please do not start anymore individual threads. Instead, please post concise description of your problems, in this thread to help staff to duplicate the problem.
Thanks in advance for your help. 🙂
Mod
There are two threads posted today that have "pizza" in the topic title and one more with "pizza" in the thread.
Doing the quick search for "pizza" in Off Topic does not show any threads since 9/21.
Doing an advance search for "pizza" with only Off Topic selected does not show any thread since 10/04.
HTH
I can find threads that I post by using the Username field. When I use that in conjunction with a keyword though, it doesn't find the thread. This search problem is causing a record number of reposts in OT too 😛.
Yesterday I made a thread in the FS forums. Not only does my thread not show up in the forums when I search for it, but the thread doesn't show up at ALL once its past page 1! The only way I can find it is if I do a search for all threads under my username. Talk about strange!
EDIT:
OK, I relisted my thread, and it STILL refuses to show up in searches. This isn't funny anymore :/
A search on my user name alone returns the the thread I started in the FS forum--but add a keyword to that search, or search only on a keyword (for instance, "6600" or "EVGA"), and the thread doesn't show. Makes it pretty pointless to list anything in the FS forum, since only through constant bumping will anyone ever see it.
Advanced search
All of these words: Circuit City
Category: Hot deals
which messages: current
Search: title and summary or title or body
Search for messages posted in the last 10 days.
no results found
It does not see this thread from 10 /02: Circuit City email with everyone wins $ off coupons.
Simple search in Hot Deals for Circuit City also does not show this or any thread newer than 9/17.
Here are my specific problems:
FS/FT
I posted messages for a Canon S50 and Corsair RAM. I can not find either of these threads by searching for 'S50' or 'Corsair.'
Also
PLEASE bring back the partial search feature. It makes searching much easier because it allows you to search for items that are commonly misspelled or may be represented in different ways. For example, I could run a search for '4200' to search for a Geforce4 Ti4200 video card which may be represented at Ti-4200, Ti4200, Ti 4200, and etc.
My WTB thread could not be found when using search. I had to use the search all posts by username to find my thread
There was a problem with the Full-Text index process.
I have kick started the index process and it is indexing as quick as it can.
With some luck, it should be caught up by the morning.
I will post an update in the AM to let everyone know the status.
The index process has been halted as it was bringing the server to it's knees 🙁
I keep getting "Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between.Please re-construct your search without these ignored words."
Me too....search for ANYTHING it'll do it, even in advanced search. Then again, the server went down 30 minutes ago...
So let it kneel! :evil:
I say take it down... it's really depressing not being able to find anything. I did a search simply on ATI and got bupkiss.
Hang on folks, we're working on it. Looks like the catalogs are corrupt so we'll be wiping all of em and start indexing from scratch. Given that the database has over 18,000,000 messages it will take awhile 🙂
