For me, not only TennesseeTony, but all of you seasoned DC crunchers here are mind boggling in making up those credits so quickly. I literally learn how to run BOINC properly just by watching how quickly those numbers add up everyday. As a new user here, I'm ashamed because I don't know anything when joined these big events.
At my first day of Wow! event for example, I had to not only throw my kitchen sink, but my whole house just to hit more than 5000 credit per day, but majority of you didn't break any sweat to reach 100k per day. Wow, just wow.
Because of that, I will keep running seti and also add another space-related BOINC project. Hopefully I can learn as much as I can from archives and your personal opinion while contributing my miniscule credits to the Marathon and Sprint score.

Wow, we zipped by Norway in quite the hurry, and took 1st in Milkyway by about 635k! :D

Alright Troopers! Man your stations and get back to searching for those aliens! Except you, @crashtech , you'd best power down before the missus finds out you fired up in the first place. ;)
I have to admit, it's a lot nicer in the den now that it's not 86° in there even with the A/C cooling the rest of the house to 76° (That's 30° and 24°C respectively, in saner parts of the world).

Now that my daughter is off for her last year of college, I am moving my rigs back in her bedroom. Working on it now so I will have everything in place for tomorrows Sprint announcement.

Question for you guys. One of my rigs, fx6300/msi970 mobo/8gigs gskill/ Dual MSI R9 280x/win10.....likes to go to sleep during the night. I thought at first it was heat, but I monitor it constantly during the day, and it's cooler in the house at night when it stops working. All power savings is off, in win10 & everywhere I can find in bios. It's almost like a crash, but there is no bsod and nothing when I reboot it to turn it back on stating it crashed or error logs. It's crazy because it only happens at night. Happened once during the last Sprint. First started happening running Primegrid in late June before I shut them down for summer. Any ideas?

I've never played with FX systems, so I'm no help. If there are no error logs, maybe you could set a vidcap program to run at night and see if anything gets displayed right at the end of the video.

You don't have to dig unless you want to, just ask! (I have a VERY short memory though. :D )

Not everyone has as big a stack of computers as Tony. When I run SETI, I don't get very far either. That's partly why I didn't join the SETI race.

Do you have a graphics card? That helps with SETI and certain other projects.

Well crap guys, just got everything moved and fired back up. I guess during the MW sprint I lost the front fan on the Asus card. Bought one on the auction site and it wont be here until after this weeks sprint. I also noticed, on the MSI 970 board, a loose fitting PCI-E connector for the second GPU, played with it a bit and its fubar'd....so I cant run a dual setup there. Thought about an RMA but the egg website that I got it from sold me the octacore Cpu also, so MSI will not warranty it, because its not rated for the 125w version of that CPU. So, I ordered Asus fans from China, and will pur along, as I look for a 990 FX board to complement the 8 core processor.

I've underclocked and undervolted a GPU with one missing fan, and it worked great. Was able to get about 85% performance out of it, since it's usually the last bit of performance that comes at much greater cost in heat, etc.

Actually it's fun to read old archives. But, when I stuck on something I'll let you know.

Yes, I have. Having a gpu is the reason why I start to learn DC. But, it seems the green aliens don't like amd card, that's why I got very small credit. Right now, I split my resource between milkyway and seti. I have to admit the difference is massive. I've got one week worth of seti credit on milkyway in just one day. That really teach me to bring right weapon for each battlefield.

@ao_ika_red , the projects that favor AMD seem to me to be Milkyway, Einstein, Collatz Conjecture, and Moo!. There are others that work, but those are the main ones that seem to do well for my AMD cards.

Hey, I finally guessed one right! I've been running it for...a whole day already. (Not much time between races.) Pending credits might help in the race.

Is POGS accelerated by GPU? In its preferences setup I didn't see any "use ati gpu" or "use nvidia gpu" option, but it has "max cpu for graphics" option.

It is CPU-only. Two places to check for such things is our sticky Distributed Computing Project List thread, and of course the project's Applications page. The latter list doesn't mention any OpenCL or CUDA versions.

Ah, got it. Thanks Stefan.
While we're discussing about CPU-bound project, I want to ask for advice. Right now, I'm running on Athlon 860k but I'm curious to swap it with 845 because it has lower TDP and AVX2 support. In term of DC, is it worth the shot? I don't mind to sacrifce gaming experience because I don't play too much.

You have probably already seen AnandTech's desktop Carrizo review, which showed performance of 845 sometimes being better than 860k, sometimes the other way around (but Carrizo generally having better performance per Watt of course). I suspect that this is very much true for DC applications as well: Some applications will benefit from the improved cores of 845, others will benefit from 860k's larger L2 cache and slightly higher clock.

Back when I upgraded my main home desktop from Core 2 Duo to Phenom II x4, I went for a 65 W part too, instead of 95 W+, because I valued the possibility to cool it very quietly. This was long before I started DC. But the CPUs which I purchased since I got into DC are tending towards good perf/W too, rather than just high raw performance.

If you decide to switch, double-check that the mainboard really supports this CPU of course.

That's exactly the reason why I ask it here. AT's mixed result only confuses me even more. I hope somebody with hands-on experience with both Steamroller and Excavator could provide the answer.
I'm not in rush about it because the way Bristol Ridge APU floods into my country should make 845 cheaper.
Fortunately, my board supports all of FM2+ based APU, it means even less cost to sidegrade.

Nice work, @GLeeM and @Fardringle and @Rudy Toody.
Edit: ...especially since Sztaki can be a finicky project, from what I read.

Good, then I can put down my Kiska disguise soon and run some Primegrid around the eclipse of the sun...
Funny thing is, I've been really busy with work and didn't even know the race had started. This is just work done by my machines that have Sztaki set up as a "backup" project and check in once in a while to see if they can get any tasks from it. :)

The step up in Sztaki ranking which GLeeM reported was actually in the year long category (marathon). They haven't included it as a sprint project this year.

A pro pos marathon, you are doing a lot of good work at Leiden Classical, where we are holding 25 marathon points currently.

It is CPU-only.

Interestingly, a GPU version was developed externally, along with optimized CPU applications, but the use of custom applications was discouraged because some of them produced incorrect results.

Then the project started development of a GPU version too but ended up with too imprecise results and halted development due to lacking budget.

Later it was indicated that a GPU version exists, but is not being released because it would enable to complete the entire project in one week. o_O
