Somebody ask for someone with experience with Prime Number projects? PrimeGrid (see my sig) is the big kahuna of BOINC prime number projects. They search for large primes and sieve with smaller ones to avoid large composites.

But there are other projects. SRBase is a separate project looking for a particular form of primes, using the same software as PrimeGrid. NFS@Home looks for prime factors of large numbers that are known to be composite. There are a few others, like primaboinca, with which I'm much less familiar.

Ah, I learned about sieving and primes when I was trying to write a small algorithm to do prime arithmetic. I'll check it out.

Thanks for the replies. I also noticed a "Mind Modeling" project. Heh

As most of you prefer tactics #2, i.e. Leiden Classical and MilkyWay@home with Volpex@UH as a long term projects, that it will be.

StichExperimen, I'll add your points under the name of Bruce tyomorrow, as I am not at home now and my computer time is limited (it is not my computer and 'net). Please have patience!

More questions:
I just went to Leiden Classical to look for an answer to a question and I see there has been virtually no activity there for a year or more. So here goes:

For whatever reason, at any given point in time, I have a computer, sometimes more than one, with no work for the Leiden project. I will get a full cache but when it has been worked through, it doesn’t get any more. I have gone through all the usual gyrations and checked configs, etc., and the only conclusion I can come to is that there isn’t enough work to go around, so a rig can sit idle until more work is available. So for our purposes, I am looking for a solution.

I have not been running Volpex and would like suggestions on configuring Volpex to run when the Leiden cache is empty. Do I just attach to Volpex and let BOINC manager take care of scheduling? Or should I dedicate one or two computer to Volpex only? Suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Leiden has kept two pcs stocked during this race (cache full, too) so I'm not complaining

@Pokey, set a bigger cache. I think setting a max additional work size, of .1-.2, also helps, as it means you're not constantly banging at the server for more work.

@Peter, it's November. When does the Holiday Season F@H race start? ;)

@Pokey:
I have my priority for Volpex set at 10000 (the other projects have it set at 100). You do set that at the Volpex home page, @ the link "Volpex@Home preferences". When there are Volpex WUs you'll get a few even the other projects crunch - then the other projects are paused while you crunch the Volpex WUs.

It is getting there!
In Leiden Classical we will gain 2 more points in approx. 2 days and can get 3 more points in a week more.
In MilkyWay@Home we have gained 2 points as of today. Well done!
But we need to increase our lead if we don not want to loose points in December ...

And finally: just a few days ago we lost two points in Yafu. We could get them back ...

But first we have to secure our lead in some of the above projects ... ;)

I guess I can try a spare machine for (new to me) Yafu, been kinda warm this week though. :)

I can also keep a machine on Leiden Classical when we switch. I'm always VERY nervous about passing SETI.USA. ;)

Sadly I don't see any opportunity to gain but 4 points before the end of the month (and end of Formula BOINC), which keeps us in our current standing.

Milkyway and Yafu, for 2 each, with NFS being a long shot at getting an additional 2 points.

I propose that we add Yafu to the mix of projects and that we keep on crunching MilkyWay; starting tomorrow at 19:00 UTC!
Those who want to run Leiden should do so, those who want to run Yafu, can do so!

Stats tomorrow!
