are you stupid? I'm a drummer and reggae is probably one of the hardest styles of music to play.

No, I am not stupid. You must be an awful drummer to consider a 4/4 beat terrible. The genre does have some hard conga and marumba riffs, but in general the music is very slow tempo (under 100 bpm) which translates into a bunch of high hat and bass drum (I have drummed for 7 years, played bass for 10).

yeah I must suck at drums fool.

Is that new age reggae? Anyway, I did enjoy hearing the drum beat; very consistant and at a good volume. I take back about you being bad at drums, but I still think it is generally at the lower end of talent pools when it comes to drumming. Anyways, thanks for the new perspective.

no problem dude. I didn?t mean to come across as a dick, but there is allot of good reggae out there. You just need to find it.

Dude you weren't coming across as a dick IMO at all. Someone just dissed your entire genre of music, I'd be pissed too.

Do you guys play shows around just Virginia, or do you ever come to MD too?

Reggae! It is the most simple music genre ever. It rarely goes out of a time signature of 4/4 (4 beats a measure) and has usually one background instrumental riff or vibe. I understand it is feel good music, but to me it sounds like crap...

I can't find any talent needed to produce reggae, the vocals are just melodic chant if you will.

Try to explain to me why this is better than rap or anything else.
No offense intended, I may just be ignorant, after all it is an opinion.

And jazz never goes out of AABA, what's your point?

Jazz can not really be compared to reggae, there are so many different elements (as I have played trumpet, bass and drums) and so many variations on key signatures and the overall range of the notes, I just appreciate the talent that jazz brings out in gifted musicians. But that is coming from a musician, so it is somewhat biased.

Sweet dude I'm gonna try to check it out. Gonna recommend this to my buddies too.

I never had any idea we had such f***ing great musicians around with ideas and good music.

It sounds like you have a pretty uninformed opinion of reggae from listening to a limited amount of artists. While reggae after awhile grates on my nerves, there's some amazing albums that I pop in once in awhile.

Go listen to some 'Scratch' Lee Perry. If you tell me you still hate reggae after that, I question your taste and or knowledge of music.

Informer you no say daddy me Snow me I'll go blame
A licky boom boom down
Detective mon said daddy me Snow me stab someone down the lane
A licky Boom Boom Down.

If you can't even spell it right then there is a high chance you wouldn't have spent enough time listening to it to find some of the better songs...

Have you listened to his music? Theres a reason hes up there in album sales with Floyd.
Um, no. I like a bit of Marley, but he's not even close to Floyd's sales.

Floyd 73.5 million

Marley 16.5 million

Sales mean nothing. An artist can sell thousands and blow nuts while another artist who doesn't sell alot has more skills. There are many exceptions, some people who sell thousands still have skills. But most don't.

Irrelevant, the person I replied to said that Marley's sales were "up there with Floyd".

Britney Spears has an album that has sold about what Van Halen's first album and their "1984" album, but I don't think you'll find anyone who claims that she is better than Van Halen.
So obviously, sales don't tell the whole story. And nobody cares if you have more skills if you don't make songs that are worth a crap.
Marley didn't have any virtuoso musical skills. What instrument did he play that stands out? Nobody can name one.
He just made good, simple music.
He was popular more for his views and rolling huge doobies than for his music skill.

Why do you think Jimmy Buffet sells out everywhere when he hasn't had a hit in over 20 years? (by himself) Same reason. The mood, the attitude, the party.

There is simply no way ANY genre of music could ever be worse than Rap.

Modern Country is the worst...hands down.

Completely vacuous crap.
Agreed. I can listen to old stuff, like Hank Williams and CDB (I'm not a country person, mind you--I'm currently listening to Tool), but the corporate sh!t that has invaded and called itself country in the last couple decades is just sad.

reggaeton ..its beyond bad. I can tolerate rap, country, reggae..etc.. but not reggaeton.

At least they're playing their instrument regardless of it's simplicity. That takes a minimal amount of talent (well just a little practice so skill..) but it's still better than the ultra shallow (c)RAP and Hip Hop but yea being a technical guy in music, I can see what you're saying. Down with funk and jazz! IIIHGHT.
