Seen that a couple months back here

Screw the 4.6, the CA Highway Patrol is testing out a couple 6.8 V10's that Ford dropped in the Crown Vics. Now THAT hauls @$$

. The early emphasis was on the 5.4L SOHC engine, which has more torque for bottom end responsiveness than the 4.6L SOHC V-8. The 5.4L engine, however, will not fit in the Crown Victoria due to interference from the windshield wiper assembly.
"Under the hood is a performance-enhanced 4.6-liter, 4-valve V-8 engine that produces 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque."

I wish to hell they would increase the size of the damn car, so they could put a decent sized engine under the hood. Quit farting around with this complex, extra valve BS, and put a REAL engine in there!

Well, they could if they wanted to.... obviously, but check this out.

For a number of years, Ford has had the goal of a zero to 60 mph time of eight seconds and a top speed of 130 mph for its Police Interceptor. The top speed has been achieved. However, the zero to 60 mph and zero to 100 mph acceleration goals have been elusive with the 4.6L SOHC V-8.

Apparently 5.4L has 28% more horsepower than the 4.6L.... but only nine percent more torque.
They said it'd only help with the top end, and not at the bottom end where they requested more power.

The police might have a car that can keep up with decently now. The current crown vic, in straight line performance wasnt any better than grandma's.

What are you smoking... the Police Interceptors now have a lot more power than grandma's crown vic... it changes every year but in 97/8 they had the same motor that the SVT Cobra was using... A buddy of mine is a cop and there's no way in hell grandma's Vic has as much power as a police cruiser...

they don't have the DOHC 4.6 in police interceptors... they are a regular 4.6L SOHC 230-260hp with true duals.

I really like the concept. I want one! or even just the push bars for my crown vic would be nice, if i wasn't totally broke. If you don't count the extra weight it should be as fast as the Marauder(same motor) so it should be good for mid 14s in the 1/4. It's a pity that for the last of the body-on-frame rwd cars there's NO room in the engine compartment. Working on my 4.6 can be a nightmare depending on what i need to reach(EGR valve is damn near impossible) ohhhh i'd kill for a Marauder. They have one sitting outside at a local dealership(used to be in the show room but they got a Mach 1 sitting there now) it looks soooooo good 😀

Usually the cop cars get a better suspension, dual exhaust, and higher performance chip to my understanding. I don't get whats so great about the marauder either, its just a plain black grand marquis. Whooo. Whats stylish or nice about that, it looks like a fbi fleet vehicle or something. My dad works at a dealership and I've spent plenty of time looking at and I just don't get it. Have you sat in a crown vic/grand marquis or marauder too? The dash extends out for a huge distance! I'll admit I'm a tall guy but even for shorter people their knees are in the dash it seems like.

Um, no. The 4.6 back then was the SOHC version (in the GT) - iirc in 2002 they started using the DOHC 4.6 in the Cobra

I don't get it either. I can live with the "style", but it's too damn slow! Worse, it's too damn small! No legroom in the back. Compromise sucks! :disgust:

With 300 HP, the 4.6L DOHC V-8 has far more horsepower than the 260 HP 5.4L SOHC V-8, and rivals the 310 HP 6.8L SOHC V-10.

So realistically, I think the engine they're potentially going to use is damn fine.
And the previous engines WERE SOHC.

I think this will make production, its just a Marauder. They're not really doing anything 'new'.

Horsepower isn't what measures an engine - it's torque. The 5.4L has 350, (like you already stated) and the 6.8 has 425 iirc. The 4.6 DOHC is a great motor but I don't see the big deal about it. Oh and the best 1/4 stock for a Marauder so far has been 14.84 @ MercuryMarauder.net, most people are in the mid-15's.

I think the CHP cameros are better 😛

No police should get a camaro or any other non crown vic as a car because when I see those in the mirror I don't slow down. Even a black crown vic is questionable 😀

I know, but the V10 is only going to help with high end, and they're happy with the high and lows in the 4.6L.

This is why the 4.6L rocks.

The 300 HP Marauder comes with a 3.55 rear gear and is limited to 120 mph. The police version will use the 3.27 rear gears. A Police Interceptor with the Marauder engine and Police Interceptor gearing is estimated to reach 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds and have a top speed of 140 mph. The three year average of the LT-1 Caprice was 8.2 seconds and 138 mph respectively. The five year average for the 4.6L Crown Victoria is acceleration to 60 mph is 8.7 seconds, with a range from 8.4 to 9.0 seconds.

heh the CHP cameros are cool their all white and from front and back they look like a regular camero just the side has a chp logo thats not to flashy. Also the lights on top are low profile, so you cant see them unless ur pretty close.

Ahhh here in illinois there are a few camaros that just have lights on the dash and not other identifying marking except for state plates. They're evil 🙂
