Um, no... not here. First off, launch is right around the corner. Second off, NVIDIA has delayed these drivers 2 months... Third off, supposedly the delay was to "polish" the drivers... and fourth, it took a "leak" from external sources for this crap.

I'm sorry, but if this is "polish" after two months, then it's no wonder why AMD bought ATI instead.

Yes, I am an 8800GTS owner, and yes, I am a legit Vista owner (not a Vista user for this very reason).

Don't turn this thread into another Vista drivers thread! You have drivers, they perform exceptional from what I read and you are still whining....

Actually some guys have managed to run this driver in their G71 w/o issues through the modded inf file.. I find that weird too, since the code should be totally different..

Also some guys report equal or better performance in some games with this driver and Vista compared to XP.. Good news from an early leaked driver..

Yea I saw that in the other thread. I wonder why it recognizes G71 based cards? They are completely different in every way.

The second part is very good news. Originally it was thought that Vista would perform worse, seeing that there is hope for a lot better performance is very comforting. But keep in mind, this could be Nvidia just refining the G80 architecture further since it is new from the ground up.

Then go buy Rainbow Six: Vegas...

[OT]Sry.. Vegas is Unreal engine 2 with major updates. More like UE2.5..The only game that currently supports UE3 is GoW atm [/OT]

...lol...wasn't aware of Ubi being all confusing with their nomenclature.

Anywho, I'm gonna wait until the 29th and get a legit copy of Vista and download non-beta drivers.

Sidenote: I read before the UT2K7 required a patch to use DX10. Why? Thanks.

Yeah nOObisoft is reffering to the game as UE3(for marketing purposes I pressume) as some sites as well.. The truth is that they have developed a hybrid engine that is based on UE2 with many elements added as time passes by. But I can't be 100% sure.. If this is trully UE3 (then they did a terrible job implementing it).. :disgust:

Well UE3 and Crysis are clearly D3D9 engines.. So they are coded with the D3D9 in mind, and a patch to add D3D10 routines is needed as with many others games as well..

Isn't this thread about a Vista driver to begin with???

And yes, I am whining. As I said - two months of delay for "polish" doesn't mean a half-ass beta driver. Fine, the core of the driver may work okay... but "polish" means a working control panel, a working SLI implementation, a full working feature set, and at the bare minimum a release candidate.

This most clearly does not fit 80% of the idea of "polish".

Maybe its not the final version? its dated 12/14/06. This is just a simple taste of what to come in the nearby future.

How bout this, let the future comes when it comes and it might bring good drivers or it might not. Right now we have these and by all accounts the interface leaves a lot to be desired and performance is very good. You can yell till your red in the face that these drivers aren't final release and you know who you sound like the fanatics who declared R520 would crush G70 months before it was released.

Can you not be a total fanboy for more than two seconds? This is a GOOD THING. It may not be official support, but it's better than nothing.

Excuse me, but did I say say it wasn't a good thing Creig?

The fanboys are the ones who have been stirring the embers on this issue (and that includes people who purchase G80 for the sole purpose of finding fault with it Josh). Don't woory though, I guarantee their kindness will be repaid when R600 launches...

Omg fellas, we have drivers for Vista now. Can we please stop arguing. Everyone was so concerned over this, lets see some benchmarks!! 🙂

The most anticipated driver ever has finally been released/leaked or what ever you may like to call it.
8800 Users can now rejoice in finally having support in Vista which is not even released yet.

Funny how some people seem to be "overlooking" that part...
Ah, well Rome wasn't buildt in 1 day...

nvidia's control panel sucks :|

ATI's control panel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>nvidia's IMO

Although I prefer the "classic" CP from both companies over their newer fancy control panels 🙁

seriously, two pages into this thread and not one person has posted benchmarks. I would love to see some windows xp vs Vista benchmarks!

While I agree on the new nVidia CP I completely disagree with the ATI CP being better. I installed it once with my X1800XT's and within 24 hours removed it and went with ATT which is a far more user friendly experience.

Now that i'm back on nVidia (with 8800GTS) I am happily using the old CP and am once again satisfied with the experience.

ATI & nVidia both put looks before function, only nVidia seems willing to rectify that. On the flipside, Matrox has them both beat with it's CP.

Me too. But I don't believe there are many people out there with Vista and 8800s. The few out there might not be interested in testing a beta driver.

By the time my copy of Vista gets here it will be a different driver version anyway.

Whoever leaked the drivers, good on them for doing so. They might have issues but at least G80 owners have something to use on Vista now.

i guess tuteja1986's wish has been granted...where is he btw? one would think HE would be the one to discover this...

but props to the OP for sure! now my friend doesnt have to beg me for stupid drivers for his RC1/RC2 vista.

Riiigghhhtt. I'm sure there are plenty of those people out there. :disgust:

Back on topic: I might need to reinstall the copy of RC2 I have and see how well these new drivers work.

Just installed RC2 build 5744 to test these drivers on my 8800 GTX.

With the 97.92 drivers in WinXp and the 100.30 drivers in Vista i get about the same performance in FEAR and 3dmark 06.

Now take that statement with a grain of salt since im not sure if RC2 is slower than Vista final.
And my winxp is "tweaked" and i havent played with Vista long enough to know any tweaks, so Vista has Aero , the sidebar and everything else thats running at default.

I just installed the 3dmark 06 and FEAR with the latest patch and ran the default bench for 3dmark 06 and ran the FEAR bench at 1920 x1200.

In 3dmark 06 i got 30 points lower in Vista than XP.
In FEAR i got 3fps more in Vista than XP.(avg FPS)

So, my test is hardly scientific, but my initial impressions are good enough that im going to do a clean install of Vista final and may even boot to Vista more often now. LOL

As I recall, it wasn't the fact that people said the G80 had no Vista drivers. That part was obvious until now.

But when those people who had reason to complain claimed that nVidia had false advertised, that is when certain posters threw up objections and started conjuring clap-traps and semantics in an effort to silence that.

And if you want to impose people bought the G80, "for the sole purpose of finding fault with it...", the topic you're stuck on doesn't even need the G80 but rather it's box and drivers. People weren't mad about the card, it's a wonderful architecture and more powerful than anything currently on the market. They were mad about the support, what was said to be supported, and what was unavailable until now.

If you want to derail a thread into who-said-what and who was more fanatical, those with hard evidence or those with semantics and clap-traps, PM me. I haven't put you on my ignore list like you have me and that would be a better place for such a discussion. So long as you don't throw a one-way insult at me through that PM - like your last one - I don't have a problem with taking this one outside.

Thanx for your effort m8.. More encouraging results as stated by other guys on the net..

Why are you feeding, answering, or even acknowledging his existence? Don't feed them.
