I for one support it. There are countless people dropping dead each year in the U.S due to lack of medical insurance, and something needs to be done.

do you have a link to an article that states how many people dropped dead last year due to lack of medical insurance?

Absolutely not.

Healthcare is not a right, and never will be.

Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy paying medical bills either. My insurance covers one pair of medically necessary contacts every 24 months. I've been through probably $3,000 in contacts in the last two years. All out of my own pocket.

But I still do not support public healthcare.

Oregon recently had a ballot measure for it, it got voted down by about 75% IIRC.

Despite my post about my mother-in-law and her problems with being dismissed from the emergency room yesterday without a doctor seeing her....No, I don't support universal healthcare. The state of Tennessee has a universal healthcare scheme called TennCare and it is bankrupting the state. The governor just announced cuts in TennCare and even with those cuts, it is still bankrupting the state despite depending on federal money for almost two-thirds of the program.

The people who usually support it are the ones that don't have enough $ to pay for it themselves so they expect others to pay for them. The problem is lawyers and insurance companies. Cap tort reform to a small reasonable amount and then make medical negligence a CRIMINAL offense and get the quacks out of the system, make advertising to the end user of pharmeceuticals ILLEGAL......I could go ON, AND ON, AND ON!!!

I voted yes, but the question is a bit vague. Would I support ANY system regardless of implementation? No. Would I support one that was implemented in a logical way? Yes. Too bad no such logical implementaion exists even in theory currently.

Quality of care is already piss poor in my opinion. If we are going to argue that quality is paramount, we should at least try to make our non-universal system of decent quality. How many people DON'T have a friend or family member that was treated like crap, misdiagnosed, or given a dangerous prescription?

The US healthcare system could use many more overhauls to make it workable before handing it to the government. Fixing malpractice insurance by itself would save more lives than government controlled healthcare.

nope .. it's called get a job that provides health care .. there are plenty of them.

or just get catastrophic heath care (not expensive) and pay for the small stuff out of your pocket .. it's tax deductible

A few years ago I read an article which talked about people who can't get insurance, not because they can't afford insurance, but because no one will give them insurance because to keep them alive/healthy would cost hundreds of thousands a year. I found it very sad how everyone including the goverment made it seem like these people lives isn't worth the money it would take to keep them healthy. This is through no fault of their own. Another thing do you know what happens to poor people with cancer. They don?t get treatment since they have no insurance and hospitals are not required to treat them. It is a sad thing really.

I am a college student so maybe to many of you that is young. Poor, not really. My family is lower middle class. I do have health insurance though.
