Another thing do you know what happens to poor people with cancer. They don?t get treatment since they have no insurance and hospitals are not required to treat them. It is a sad thing really.

There are plenty of poor people who rack up millions in medical bills for cancer treatment.

Nope, and I say that as a poor college student who HAS insurance. I don't mind offering affordable health insurance to citizens, but I think we need to focus more on eliminating Social Security and focus on lessening the national deficit before any such issue is tackled.

the poor have medicaid
the small business people made a concious choice to go on their own and without employer provided health insurance

If the US ever does adopt something like this they should learn from Canada's mistakes with universal health care.
1) Have some kind of user fees: It helps prevent people from abusing the system. Right now in Canada its flu season, so you have all those idiots going to the hospital because they have the flu and want drugs. Can't get it through their heads that antibiotics dont do anything about the flu. Charge them a user fee, stop them form coming back and clogging the system
2)Don't restrict two tier access. If someone has the money to pay a private facility to get a procedure done now, let them. In Canada this is a grey area, and lots of rich just go to the US to pay for procedures instead of wating. We make them spend money in the US instead of spending it in Canada

Address those 2 issues and it could work.

Look at any other government agency to see how horrible government health care would be. Go tour your local VA hospital.

Those are generally the elderly who get goverment medicare. I am talking about a poor person in thier 20s, if they have cancer no one will treat them.

In a perfect world, yes, I would support a limited, minimum universal health care. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world and government health care would be a bigger mess than the current health care situation.

I like the idea of a two tiered system. I would not want inferior or mediocre healthcare for myself like they have in Canada, but Canada covers all of their citizens. I wonder if a two tiered system is possible where some can keep private insurance and receive excellent medical care and a second lower tier healthcare (obviously not as good as private) offered by the government is very cheap to the less fortunate people.

Dont even get me started on insurance. You've all heard my current fight with my ins co. Although I rely on medical care to survive, and now have no coverage and do not qualify for medicaid, I think a national care plan is unfair. It'll be abused to all hell just like welfare and everyone has to pay...no thanks. I'd like to see the current systems in place heavily reformed.

I'm trying to find a job to cover me, just like everyone else.

I think something should be done to care for those unable to provide care for themselves and their family. I am not sure what, but something should be done.

If you really have the courage of your convictions, maybe you should find one of these twentysomethings that has cancer and offer to pay their medical bills instead of stealing from me to pay for it. You could work two jobs and still go to school while you pay for their bills and the meager existence you can eke out for yourself. If you find you're becoming too well off and have too much time for yourself and your meager existence, you could find another of the 'countless' to personally finance.

Fine, and the quality of health care can be the same as that of police protection. And doctors can be paid the same, guaranteeing great quality health care.
