then I guess we cant discuss this matter at all, doubt anyone here has taken part in either of those races 😉Originally posted by: LAUST

nascar is probably one of the easiest racing types, try formula 1, now that is hard
edt. wow, thats a reaaaaly crappy list![]()
It is certainly unique in racing. Run in all manner of conditions and weather and you're flying blind except for the info your codriver is feeding you.....no running laps to learn the course in rally.Originally posted by: ndee
Hands down, Rally takes it all when it comes down to racing.

Corners and lots of them. Some Nascar races you may have only a few corners and I'm expected to sit there and watch as all these cars take the same corners in the exact same predictable manner everytime? My God, I'd rather watch submarine races.Originally posted by: tarheelmm

OUCH.......What makes rally or F1 any different?

You're forgetting that they're doing close to 200mph, are inches from each other, and on the very edge of traction in every corner. It may look simple from an observer's standpoint, but it's not. The speed factor alone is hugely intimidating; I've done about 140 on my motorcycle before and I cannot conceive of tacking 50 or 60 mph onto that. Additionally, there are a few road courses they compete on during the year. Watch the cameras they have showing the driver's footwork and then come back and tell me these guys can't drive. They can heel-toe and left-foot-brake just as well as any rally guy, belive me. You're just making the typical mistake of confusing the racing with the fans.Originally posted by: ElFenix
nascar is barely even driving. on the average track you need not shift going around the track as fast as you can.
Ever been to rural NC? There are small tracks EVERYWHERE and lots and lots of kids competing at a very young age. It's just as hard for these guys to get a pro ride as it is for Joe Minor Leaguer to get a spot on the Yankees roster. Sure, there are fewer kids overall driving than playing baseball, but then again, there are only 40ish guys on the nascar circuit.the other thing about auto racing is, how do we know these guys are even the best at it? football, baseball, basketball, millions of kids around the world have access to them at an early age, so the guys that come out of high school and college are pretty much the cream of the crop. how many kids have access to competitive driving? not near so many.

I'd say the split between CART and IRL was more about engine manufacturers in CART having too much control which was ultimately not in the sport's best interest.
No, they punch a button and the car shifts for them. Same with rally. At least nascar guys still have a clutch pedal to deal with.Originally posted by: ElFenix

Nah I'm just looking for another angle with which to attack I sport I detest so heartily. I mean really it's a difficult thing to argue. Just as some people think that a world class bowler has as much athleticism as a world class quater back, these things are just opinions 😉Originally posted by: Dead Parrot Sketch
"Their cars also suck dick. I mean you take F1 that car is tweaked to be the best car on the planet in that environment. Same for rally, but with nascar you have these hulking behemoths. 5 million pounds of metal going around a track. "
Would hockey be better if they used carbon fiber sticks with laser sights and a robotic puck that was controlled by engineers in a truck in the parking lot ?

geat, in the average race a nascar guy will have to pick at gear all of about 5 times during the whole race and thats only when they're coming out of the pits. F1 and rally guys still have to pick the gear (well, except for when a williams guy has his transmission in full auto mode) and they have to do it all the time. and lots of F1 drivers have clutch pedals in their cars.
as for the two times they actually leave ovals during the year: they had to straighten out sears point and watkins glen so that those waddling cars with archaic designs could get around the track in a respectable time.
I cannot argue with your superior logic and extensive evidence to support your view.Originally posted by: spidey07
nascar is not racing. It certainly isn't a sport.
that's really all there is to it.

Go to any track under 3/4 of a mile and watch them shift like crazy. They shift in and out of every turn on any track. It is near impossible for them to stay in a corner at full speed. This is also why the right side of the car must be weighted to a minimum of 1600lbs.
