you don't use the D pad for movement. I use the following setup in WoW

1 2 W 3 4
5 A S D 6
7 8 9 0

Orange Button = "-"

D-Pad
Up = Target Self
Right = Target's Target
Down = Target next enemy
Left = Target nearest enemy

This must get out of single email testing fast ... for one, I am not from the UK (US) ... and another Windows Vista SP 1 is going to totally break the beta XP 64 drivers.

The first thing to note is that Windows update is taking care of important incremental fixes and while SP1 delivers enhancements to compatibility and reliability, it will not contain new features. It is built and tested to enable smooth transitions for applications from Windows Vista RTM to Windows Vista SP1. If you want more information on the latest Windows Updates, here are two Knowledge Base articles that address reliability and compatibility: KB 938194, KB 938979.

I use the dpad for things like crouching, sprinting, some macros, ect.. The N52 is awesome. I wasn't sure about it at first but after I played with it for a while I won't use anything else.

I to am glad to hear there is a little life left in the N5x line, personally I just wish there was a bluetooth version I and several of my guildies have moved to gaming on laptops, we game with bluetooth mice it'd be nice to elmiminate the rest of the cable clutter.

As for the dpad I use it for looking up/down, and zooming in/out.

Haven't tried my N52 as it's at home, but the N50 doesn't work on Vista 32bit with these new drivers. I'm not sure if it's supposed to but thought I would post and let you know anyway.

I'm assuming I don't need to do anything apart from install the drivers?

From what a few people mentioned earlier about the differences between the N50 and N52, this is probably to be expected. I'm still using my N50 with the Joy2Key method I mentioned but have picked up an N52 for when I finally wear out the buttons on this unit. Though, I am tempted now to give it to my little brother and pick up the N52te when it comes out. :D

Hmmm. Initial thoughts based purely on the press release:

* Backlit - the thing's laid out so you -don't- have to look at it. Waste of LEDs! (although it does look cool)
* On-board memory - anybody ever plugged their's into a different PC (other than the one you upgraded to and brought across all your profiles anyway?)
* Razer affiliation? Everything with the Razer name I've tried before has sucked.
* £49.99? Are they having a laugh? When I can buy a new n52 for £20?

Having said all that...
a) I'm overjoyed to have working drivers for my n52
b) I'll definitely try to have a play on one to see if the action's any better on the keys. My old n52 is so stiff, I reckon I could tap holes in a solid oak door with these fingers on my left hand ;)
c) soft-touch wrist pad - I kinda like the sound of that but it might have the potential to get sweaty
d) why didn't they ditch the redundant scroll wheel that no-one ever uses? I would much rather have some kind of switch to toggle between the key-sets, or simply another standard key there.

Just my 25p's worth :)

I'm actually getting a lot of use from my N50 scroll wheel in X3: Reunion right now. I can bind one of the positions to a key and set it to auto to defeat the unattended rank loss issues that normally occur when you leave the game running by itself. :D

Well this is the n52te (te for tournament edition), and seeing as how there are tournaments where you're not allowed to install extra software to the computers, this product solves that problem

And the onboard memory is Razer's technology they've used in their mice and keyboards to perform the same function of eliminating the need for specialty drivers and software, and thus that answers your other question as to why they affiliated themselves with Razer.

I will agree though, price needs to drop at least ~30% or so before it really could be considered a reasonable deal compared to the current price of the still available n52.

I was browsing thru Newegg deals today, and that's what I found:

BELKIN F8GFPC100 Nostromo n52 SpeedPad - Retail - $4.99 after $10 MIR, Free Shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16826169003

Never used it, but then I came across this thread, and see that you guys absolutely love it!
Well, I am sure I will enjoy it too, when it arrives. Can't beat the price!

I guess they're making room for these here

Anyone using the D-pad for movement on their N52s? I started out using the N52 this way and others have said they prefer the standard wasd config for movement.....I tried it but eventually moved back to the D-pad because it felt more natural for movement. On a few games I could never get the d pad to work only the wasd method. So is playing performance compromised using the d-pad over the wasd method? Would like to hear from others who have tried both methods. On the new Belkin N52TE I hope the keys are less sticky with a better d-pad....if so maybe the high initial price might be worth it.

I am ticked off! I have searched and searched on this site and read all the posts and I have NOT found a solution to MY problem. Everyone is talking abot getting the N52 to work on Vista 64 bit, BUT, what about we that have Vista 32 bit?!?!? I have tried every driver I can find and even the ones that I have seen listed on Belkin's site that claims to be Windows XP32, Vista 32 & Vista 64, BUT THEY DO NOT WORK!! I use my N50 exclusively for WOW and I absolutely HATE using a keyboard for playing it. I have gotten so sused to using my N50 and it works flawlessly in XP. I have even bought another hard drive and installed XP on it in my new computer just so I can use my trusty OLD N50. I know I could probably find an N52 but why would I do that when there is nothing wrong with my N50, other than Belkin decided to NOT make a WORKING 32 bit driver for Vista.

Also, I would like to mention that the Vistabootpro program that so many have mentioned is NOT required in Vista 32 bit version of windows. Seems that the people that have been suggesting it would make that little fact known to those who are using the 32 bit version of Vista.

Anyway, if ANYONE knows of any information to get my trusty N50 to work in Vista 32 bit, I would really apprciate it! :)

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Thanks!

**04/18/08 UPDATE**

While I have not found a driver for Vista 32-bit for my trusty N50, I have tried the joy2key that someone had mentioned, and while it lacks the ablility to do macros, it works just like the old XP drivers!! You can't tell the difference! I can live without the macros for now untill they update it (if they even will), but thanks to the one (or ones) that mentioned Joy2key, you're a lifesaver! :)

Here's the link in case anyone else needs it. http://www.electracode.com/4/j...0English%20Version.htm

And it's easy to set up too! All I did was make sure it had the right "joystick" selected and did the Auto Setting Wizard and made sure I watched what key on the N50 I was assinging to the ones on the keyboard. Loaded up WOW and voila, back in business!

I'm waiting for delivery of my Nostromo N52 - I've read many good things about it and wanted to try it for myself. I preferred being able to macro the keys and many of the other competing products don't have this ability.

Right now I'm playing AoC.

So I read through this thread twice - Nice. Great to see that there is Vx64 drivers out there.

However, I'm wondering if I still have to delete the mentioned Vista update(s) - KB938979 - in order to get it to work. Has Belkin addressed this issue? Have the "new" drivers been released?

Once again, great thread addressing my concerns - thanks to all!

<<Nostromo n50 on VISTA : yes you can !

Hi,

for those who are still interested, I would like to present you a homebrew software suite that permit to use the Nostromo N50 on Vista 32 bits (I did not tried it out in VISTA 64 bits and it should work in Windows 7 Wink )

Key features :
- No need to install special drivers from belkin, generic Vista drivers are sufficient : it works out of the box !
- Programming levels (Red/Green/Blue) are fuly supported.
- You can map any key or key combination to the N50 (even multimedia keys)
- Its freeware
- Software is in english
- Tested with a few games like Crysis
- The zip file comes with a help file in french and a help file in English
- Works better than a 52te Grin

Do not hesitate to try and give your feedback.
Enjoy, its N50 revival !

I am pretty sure I could have wrote a programming software for the n52 also, but i do not have one to try with.
