Rap is nothing more then poetry timed to a beat. Peotry in metered steps has always been considered music. Here, go watch the movie Sparticus. At one point, the gay white guy with the curly black hair (I forgot his name I just remember him looking gay) sings to the slaves refugee camp. At first you think he's reciting poetry until Sparticus tells him that is the most beautiful song he has ever heard and that his singing is the real talent in the world where his is not. Or at least I think I remember the dialog going along those lines like that.
Anyhow, in the past, not everyone could "sing" well nor have instruments. So poetry was a form of singing for those without the greatest voices as long as the poetry was considered metered.
What I think is frikking funny is when black friends (I'm just saying because only black people tell me this) that it's part of their heritage, their culture, and that it's something they brought to white folk. Uhhh.... no. Rap, as I said is metered poetry and has been around in Europe for a LONG time. It was also called monophonic music back then.
Just a little history lesson. Still, I like some rap, and dislike other rap. I tend to dislike more modern produced rap songs then I dislike say rock songs but there is plenty of music from all categories I like and dislike.
Until you guys know the history of music a bit better, this goes for the OP too, stop with the diarrhea of the mouth please.
