For those that believe the Thunderbolt will have bad battery life

I give you the Inspire 4G. Same phone, minus the LTE radio. And on AT&T.

Inspire has a 1230mah battery, and lasted 2 days. The TB has a 1500mah battery, to compensate for the more power hungry LTE radio.

Discuss. :)

It's not that it's a more power hungry radio. I imagine VZW is incrementing the paging cycle for LTE to compensate, it's just the simple fact that the handset will have to be paged on both CDMA and LTE, which the previous UE's (aircards) didn't have to do.

The same thing happened with the first EVDO capable handsets, and eventually a compromise was reached.

You can make any phone last for days if you don't use it. 1230mah battery is small. One of my relative just got the Inspire 4G and I tried it out over dinner. I thought it was EVO at first when she showed it to me. I don't know about the battery life but it can't be good with 1230mah battery on 4.3 inch screen. The phone seemed responsive but the screen was just meh and ruined the whole experience. S-Amoled screen has ruined me.

She's planning to return the phone. She thinks Android is just too complicated and she's going back to the iPhone.

Winner. On days I'm busy it'll last north of 24 hours. On days I'm actually using it I can kill it in less an eight hours easy.

Wow. Its irritating when someone can't spend even a small time learning how to use their new gadgets. Android is no more or less complicated than any other smartphone OS.

But, I am eagerly anticipating the TB's release. Doubly so, since its HTC and likely to get a CM flavor on it. If the XDA devs are reliable, than the LTE drivers aren't built into Sense the same way Sprint's WiMAX drivers were on the Evo. Shouldn't be much, if any, wait to have LTE on a custom ROM.

Actually, I'd love to see a breakdown on gender & mobile OS's, I suspect that a decent percentage of women prefer iOS over Android.

Android isn't quite as bulletproof as iOS, I handed my Android phone to a woman a couple of months ago for her to look at and I don't know what the hell she did, but she jacked it up so bad in a couple of minutes I was awed...

i have droid x and i usually have to charge 1 or 2 times a day. iphone 4 gets twice the battery life that my phone does and iphone 5 supposedly gets twice the battery life of iphone 4. that will make iphone 5 very tempting

I heard the iPhone 5 apparently has a 4.8" screen, a 1080p projector, and is powered by a GeForce GTX 580.

This got to be the dumbest thread.
You're comparing a non-LTE phone on att to a LTE CDMA phone on Verizon ??
- How about comparing it to a CDMA wimax EVO that has the same 1500mah that has horrible battery life in stock form.
- Or a 3.7" HTC Incredible cdma 1230mah phone on Verizon that has horrible battery life.

Sure. We can do that. Both the Evo and the Incredible use the first generation Snapdragon. Its based on the 65nm process and Adreno 200 CPU. As odd as it may seem, there's pretty significant power savings when you move to the 45nm, second generation Snapdragons in the Thunderbolt and Inspire. Additionally, their SLCD screens draw less power while providing a better viewing experience than the older displays.

Aside from the LTE radio, the AT&T Inspire is a nearly identical phone to the Thunderbolt. Since the Inspire has a 1230mah battery while the TB has a 1500mah battery, its simply logical to infer that the TB will have better battery life. Its use under LTE is the unknown factor. But, LTE doesn't cover all of Verizon's customers yet, so it may be a complete non-issue for the majority of people.

Additionally, there's also a Seido 1600mah battery thats supposed to work in the TB/Inspire without the need for an extended battery cover.

You got irritated by somebody you have never met because they didn't want to learn to use Android?

Wow.

Tester reports were that LTE was killing the battery. This is no evidence to the contrary.

Also, the Inspire has HSUPA disabled, which also saves battery life.

If the subsidized price for the Thunderbolt is $300 like some people are reporting, I'm not buying it.

I don't care, I simply would never buy it just on principle. That's not a phone worth an absurd 50% price hike. For the last few weeks I was seriously doubting that I would wait for the Bionic, but this might push me to wait.
