just hitting J opens the Jump window

In somewhere versions 5+ they added 'Global Hotkeys'. When enabled you can use the Ctrl+Alt+[somekey] combo to send commands to winamp even when it's not active. Works great when "Playing a game that takes up the whole screen" and skip, stop, pause the current song.

nly time I use WinAmp is on my JukeBox PC. The program uses Winamp to play the songs and has plugins for it to make everything work well. WinAmp is very customizable wheras I don't thikn WMP is much at all...

WMP want's to inculde too much freaking info and search the internet and crap. I know WTF I'm listening to, I don't need an essay in the playlist.

Winamp is much simpler, especially when it comes to playlists, just as others have mentioned.

j/k, there is no difference in sound quality and foobar doesnt have visualizations winamp does, so whatever floats your boat. personally i am much more happier with tabbed playlists, a great built-in replaygain and less resources taken.

Winamp is good for it's media library, it is easy to add your entire collection to the library in one go (fvck knows how you do that in WMP, the 'add folder' option has never worked for me), and very quick access to albums and files with searches in the media library.

Oh, I can think of one more advantage of using WMP: I can start it using the "Run" dialog. (just type in "wmplayer")

It's not as bloated and clunky as WMP, I like being able to dock it on the side of my window and keep it tucked away without getting in the way. I also like being able to adjust my EQ quickly if I need to.

I did use WMP for a while after I reformatted, but I got tired of it after about a month and went back to trusty Winamp 2.81

I stopped using that bloated sh*t years ago. It got totally ridiculous. I figure that WMP has to be installed anyway, so I leave it installed. ICQ, Winamp, both examples of once-good apps that got too big for their own good. How big is the ICQ install these days anyway, like probably a gig?

Start --> Run --> "c:\program files\winamp\winamp.exe"

I think there's some Registry edit that you can do so that the program runs through command line like the WiMP does, but I can't think of/don't want to Google for it right now.

Why do you use WinAmp, and not WMP?

WinAmp is easy to use:
1. Click Add
2. Click Add Dir
3. Click the Music subdirectory(on laptop), or F drive (desktop)
4. Click OK
5. Click Play button
