Why do you use WinAmp? I use WinAmp, but am considering switching over to WMP, because it has pretty much the same stuff, but also better integration with the buttons on my laptop's chassis.

Why do you use WinAmp, and not WMP?

speed, simplicity, no bloated features that i don't care for.

then again i have seen many people that use things like itunes and stuff and I can understand why they use them. I just have no use for those features.

I made a skin for Winamp ages ago that I still like to use. that, and it's just force of habit by now :)

I used to swear by winamp but wmp works better with napster so i switched over. wmp 10 is a little buggy I think, but 9 is pretty good.

edit: however, iirc winamp uses less resources than wmp

I have used winamp since it first came out. I am use to it, know everything it does and have no need to switch to something different.

Winamp is much easier for me to use, especially the playlist. I have thousands of songs and WMP absolutely sucks when it comes to playlists.. I mean it is such a simple feature why can't they make it easy just to add all your MP3s without removing the artists name from the listing? Or trying to get me to seperate my playlists into neat sections? Screw WMP, it's only good for porn

The fact that I can see the current track playing and have all the important playback buttons on two rows that are like 30 pixels high is a nice bonus.

Also, while there are playback buttons on my keyboard, I set it up so that they work with Winamp. I don't use Napster/iTunes/any other music-buying software.

I also prefer Winamp's playlist functions and media library to that of Windows Media Player.

So, yeah... as far as I'm concerned (for music playback) Winamp > *.

It's probably just me, but WMP will forever feel like bloatware to me.

Winamp 5.* isn't too bad either if you get the basic winamp and use the classic skin. :) But yeah, I like the 2.79 the best too.

I hate how WMP10 tries to tag MP3's

W'amp:

Quicker to launch
Quicker to search
Looks better
Uses less resources
Has better support for Divx, VCd's, with out the use of crappy codex's

I switched to WMP a few years back because of the album download features. I can rip cds and have it automatically catalog them for me. Then my streaming media player in my livingroom can index my albums more easily. I used to prefer winamp before it got bloated around version 3.

I was waiting for a post to come up about codecs :D

Isn't there a way to use different codecs for WMP? I'm sure there is...

Is this a joke?

WMP sucks! Why would I use a bloated PoS like that when WinAmp can do the same thing? :)

P.S. WinAmp can rip your CDs too.

Thank goodness for sites like oldversion.com. :)

Speaking of skins, I still have that skin pack from the winamp official site, back when the whole installer was still ~400kbyte. Anyone remember the collection with SexAmp, WoodAmp, SketchAmp, PurpleHaze? At one point even Adrenaline Vault chipped in with their own superb AdrenalineAmp.

I use WinAmp 5 lite for my mp3's. Simple to use interface, and nice skins. You just can't make WMP look nice.

And WMP10 for my Movies.
