Et to Brute

Pay no attention to that raving loon. If he paid more than 40 bucks in taxes last year he bought by converter box cause I'm getting me a coupon.

And if he paid less than $40 in taxes he would be a democrat(in the Obama administration)?

or your VP candidate Palin, who should pay some back taxes.

Man lots of short sighted people here. Yes the internet is great and I get 100% of my news from it. But the internet also has some major disadvantages that TV is not subject to. Who remembers trying to get internet news the morning of 9/11? Every major news site was hammered beyond belief. I was stuck at work with no TV, so the internet was my only source - And it was terrible. Keeping TV's working is in the best interest of everyone. And since it's been paid for by the spectrum auction there's absolutely no reason NOT to fund the transition.

I do think they should quit putting it off, what better way to get people to actually convert than to kill their TV?

Viper GTS

I wonder if anyone has the morning of 9/11 tivo'd? What you'd realize is that there was no news on television either, other than what you already knew when you tried to access the news sites. Here's a summary of everything from that day: video of 2nd plane hitting, report of plane down in PA, report that another hit the pentagon. Video of 2nd plane every 2 1/2 minutes. Towers fell down. Video of plane switched to every other 2 1/2 minutes, video of towers falling every 2 1/2 minutes in between. The rest of the time was nothing but speculation, not facts.

LOL! Yeah how many times can you watch a 747 fly into a building? Shit... What a joke.

Personally, You'd been better off not owning a tv during the next 6 months after 9/11 - What a waste of time that was.

Don't worry about it it's been extended for another 4 months. Can't let americans not enjoy the couch potato experience.

Since I left my parent's home I didn't buy a tv. Last year I bought an usb tv tuner to be able to watch Juventus games (I really enjoy soccer) but I never watch talkshows and the stupid variety shows we have in Italy...
I turn it on for the news (only on BBC, unfortunately we have only one english language channel) as well.
I think it's better to put a DVD on, or to read a book if you don't feel like using your PC after dinner.

It's funny because in Italy we have the same problem now, the switch to digital television.
I don't know if it's the same for you (of course Obama doesn't have his own tv, but maybe a lobby is pushing for the switch), but here our prime minister holds 3 tv channels, so you can imagine how in conflict of interest he is when dealing with digital television.

"Brazilian judge rules TV "essential"

Tue Feb 3, 7:29 am ETSAO PAULO (Reuters) ?
A Brazilian judge awarded $2,600 (1,824 pound) in damages to a man who sued a store for not replacing his faulty television set, ruling that it was an "essential good" needed to watch soccer and a popular reality TV show.

The customer took Casas Bahia, Brazil's largest furniture and home appliances retail chain, to court for "moral damages" inflicted by not being able to watch television.

"In modern life, you cannot deny that a television set, present in almost all homes, is considered an essential good," ruled the judge from Campos, a town north of Rio de Janeiro.

"Without it, how can the owner watch the beautiful women on 'Big Brother,' the national news broadcast or a football game," the judge quipped.

Brazilians are passionate soccer fans and are currently following the ninth season of the local version of the popular reality TV show "Big Brother."

Not only a right, but essential?

Ok, maybe you catch the weather or a little news but can't you get that from a radio?
If you're that hooked on Television and you haven't got a cable/digital ready set ...... go out and buy your own damn converter box.
I don't think I should have to pay for your nasty habit.

Maybe that's why you are so uniformed?

I would reply but I'm finding it hard to follow your thought pattern.
Try replying with a sentence that makes some kind of sense.

No, I do my posting from work like most people. I have to be here in front of the computer anyway. (I can't believe you think AT is inconsequential).
So why is what I said nonsense? Am I the only one who thinks TV is pretty much useless?

Yet another waste of my dollars so that joe dipshit (senseamp) can get another free handout... yay. It would have been much more productive to see millions of "poor" people get the fuck up off the couch and go outside! Crazy thought, I know...

Yeah, when the government destroys the function of my TV and pockets billions on the sale of increased bandwidth for my trouble, they should have no obligation to anyone whatsoever!

If this were a private company people would be screaming for their heads, why it makes the slightest bit of difference because its the government is beyond me.

But this is not a public company. That billions did not go into an individual?s pocket, it went into the public coffers. Therefore the government has no obligation to pay people for any destruction of their TV functions. The government has already paid you, in the tune of billions of dollars in government revenue that is in turn used for the betterment of you.

I thought that maybe he meant uninformed but even then ..... his statement still makes no sense to me ......... unless maybe he gets ALL of his information from TV?

Isn't that like saying "I am extremely well informed because I watch TV"
Or "If I don't watch TV I will be very uninformed"
See ...... makes no sense.

Long Live TV!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to worry. I don't watch TV either and am immeasurably proud of myself that I'm not some brain dead couch potato and have a deep desire to rub that in the face of the world. And I have much more important things to do with my time, like post here and play WOW all day. Also, I had the perspicacity to get my coupon on time so I'm naturally deeply proud of myself there, in addition. So when I saw your post I remembered right away how great I am and how it was me who forgot to brag. I was a bit worried you'd get all the accolades and my natural reaction was to throw some cold water. So now it's me who asks to be forgiven.

Edit: By the way, when I do watch TV it is generally Public Broadcast high brow type stuff because I'm also a brilliant intellectual deeply interested in all facets of culture, science, and history. I even learned how to cook delicious beef liver.

It went over your head. He is making the case when the govt recieved cash for the channels in essence so do you. Because that money went into the public coffers(taxpayers).

That said this is one of the dumbest things for people to get flared up about. I am sure Eskimopy feels the same way when the govt implements mandates that cost the tax payer money. For instance requiring green energy production which jacks up the rates of users. I am sure he is just flailing his arms about due to that cost pass through.

40 bucks, really, people cant save 40 bucks? Requires our govt to hand it to them for free or they cant watch TV?

What a pathetically dependent society we are becomming.

So whats the big deal if they delay the switch?

Maybe I'm wrong, but looking at the local OTA guide it looks like the digital stations are already all broadcasting, there are 3 moving to a different channel, but its still the same lineup after the switch as it is now.

So what am I missing?

No man, you are fine. Your original statement did, I think, sort of imply a sense of smugness and superiority that jumped a bit off the page. It reminded me a lot of a part of myself I don't particularly like. When I say we see in others what is really true of us, it's also true for me.

Whenever the word "tv" is mentioned, you know 2 or 3 people will pop in and tell us how great their life is because they don't own a tv.
