"It's too heavy for you"
"Fire!"
"Don't do drugs - the only dope worth shooting is Bush"

:music: I lift alone... yeah! With nobody else... :music:

I don't like socializing at the gym.

If it looks like someone's going to ask for a spot, I'll go get a drink of water or make a face like I have to take a shit.

I use dumbells 90%, and the other 10% of the time I figure if I fail I'll just dump the plates and hope I don't kill someone.

On the rare chance I am forced to spot someone, I'll say the usual stupid shit like the rest of you.

Sounds like you don't lift hard.

Sounds like you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Oh enlighten me bright one.

Forced reps and negatives are rather hard without a spotter. Not to mention the motivation you get.

The only thing I say when spotting is "1 more" when they have one rep left.

This thread is silly ;)

I suppose the OP wants a fscking illiad composed for every spot he receives?

Personally I just off some encouragement (usually along the lines of 'too easy mate'), and i couldn't give a flying fsck what you say when you spot me, providing you don't drop the bar on me if I need you :p

A friend said something like that when I was doing bench (I had just added 10 more pounds) and for some reason it made me laugh and I barely got the bar up that rep. lol.

I used to lift with a guy that was a professional natural body builder, and he used to literally yell at me. He'd say, "You're a machine, a machine!" It did actually help me get those last few reps.

That sounds real safe, both for the equipment and the other people in the gym

FWIW, I have never been turned down for a spot when I asked a stranger for one. Heck, I've made a few friends/workout partners that way.

I used to lift with a guy built like a tank who used to do the same thing every time he spotted someone. He would literally spend five minutes getting angry at the weights before lifting!
