I kind of agree with you, but these types of promotions are new for AMD. Intel has been doing this for years and has far more resources than AMD does. It seems like AMD and Tiger partnered on this promotion, who knows how much of our information will be given to Tiger for marketing purposes as part of their agreement. After all we are the target market for most marketing agencies.

I sent an e-mail to AMD telling them my concerns about TD to see if there was something the could say to reassure me...hehehe...I hope they can.

Let us know what you get in response. Aside from that, I really don't care as long as it works the way it is supposed to. I also am PRAYING that it doesn't end up being the Newcastle core instead of the Clawhammer core. That will really piss me off.

Also, I don't know if this matters or not, but I just checked Tiger Direct's website and they only carry the Clawhammer ATM... the Newcastle doesn't even show up in the Athlon 64 section. I hope this is what we'll get, cuz frankly, I don't care if I get the rebate or not as long as I get the friggin Clawhammer. The cost of buying those pieces separately is too much for my budget.

Can you refresh my memory as to the difference between the two cores?

The Clawhammer has a 1 mb L2 Cache, whereas the Newcastle (brand new version of the Athlon 64 3200+) has a 512 kb L2 Cache.

AMD realized that the Athlon 64's with the Clawhammer core were able to perform even with, if not outperform, the Opteron versions of the processor, which cost quite a bit more than the Athlon 64 counterparts. In order to put everything back in it's place (restore order, so to speak), AMD released the new version of the Athlon 64, named "Newcastle," where they lowered the L2 Cache size to 512 kb. Translation: Very noticeable performance hit.

Man, I was just going to buy this chip. Too bad I don't work at one of those stores or know someone that does. Anyone here willing to buy it for me (I'd pay for it, of course)?

PM if you can :)

Man... Really wanted to order this... But others including myself have been burned by TigerDirect before. Not so sure this is as "hot" as it is now.

These types of promotions aren't new to AMD. They've done them before. I have an Athlon 600MHz and Biostar board I got from one of their previous promotions. They don't do them as often as Intel, but they do have some experience with them. I remember back when I got the 600 bundle they were pretty good with customer service. Some people were having problems with the Gigabyte board they were originally providing so they switched to the Biostar and started shipping those instead. So although I have concerns that it's being done through TD, I have faith AMD will make sure everything goes well.

After checking the status of my order it states "To Drop Shipper - Your order being submitted to third-party warehouse for fulfillment and delivery. Please allow 7-10 business days for processing and shipment. " So perhaps TD is only handling the purchase and some third-party is providing the actual bundle.

Well, after debating this all night, I finally decided to get in on this deal this morning. I wasn't planning on upgrading till the end of July and only wanted to spend $200 on the CPU and $125 on the MB and by the end of June, I would probably get the same CPU/MB, so I might as well get it now for cheaper. Hope TD doesn't screw us all.

I've always been on the intel bandwagon. Had a 1.2ghz tb way back in the day, and the nb chipset SUCKED.. (kt133 iirc..) Hoepfully this will change my mind.

Ditto, last AMD based system i owned was a K6-2 lappy, and had that wonder of a southbridge called the 686 on a intel board. So this VIA'ness will be new to me.

Got a question for everyone:

When I click the link to track my order and then put my order number and zip code in, a screen comes up and says what the bundle is and as order status "to drop shipper." Under that is where my question comes in... It says "To view detail information/tracking numbers of your order, please click here." When I click there, it asks for all my home address information, telephone numbers, AND my credit card information again, as in the credit card number and whatnot.

Is it alright to do this to get the tracking numbers, or are they gonna charge me?

I'm confused....

I agree I find this strange, while I don't think they'll charge you to release tracking information, of which I hope they'll just post as it actually really enters shipment process.....I think this is cause the AMD EPP program user information wasn't translated to TD clearly and therefore their system is re-asking for the information. Cause when I ordered I didn't make a NEW account at TD, just placed the orders....I am kinda weary of this whole process certainly doesn't seem very structured....

I called this #:

If you would like to check the status of an order over the phone, or have any questions about the status of your order that this page doesn't answer, you may call our customer service department at 1-888-444-9700.

And talked to someone. He said that even though it says "amd 1900 bundle" that it is in fact an amd 64 3200+. He said that they were bundles recieved from amd, that tigerdirect nor anyone other than amd has touched any of it.

So I guess it's amd that installed the heatsink and stuff?
