"Bored of the Rings" was funny. I think it came out back in the late 60s and was by the guys that started National Lampoon. I wish there was more about Frito and the voluptuous Elf maiden the book hinted about in the prologue.

Anyway, as I remember, it was way too short as a parody of the Hobbit and the LOTR. I wonder if the library has a copy.

denis, where did you get that deluxe illustrated edition? and how many illustrations are in it..and are they nice?

All I have is the 3 books in one big paperback. about 1000 pages...then another 250 pages or so of other cool stuff.

The girl who gave that to me said it was the deluxe edition but I suppose that this term would be better used for the Millenium edition in 7 volumes.

What this former student gave me is THE LORD OF THE RINGS, 1992 (Centenary Edition), Harper Collins, illustrated by Alan Lee (50 plates), 1195 pp. in three paperback volumes. As for the quality of the plates, the picture of Frodo looking in the mirror of Lady Galadriel at the homepage of the site I mentioned in this thread is one of them. They are 7.5"x5" glossies.

A request was made and most likely has been made a number of times regarding the titles of the 50 color plates painted by Alan Lee and commissioned by Harper Collins in the single volume hardcover LOTR 1991 ISBN 0-261-10230-3. I believe that this volume came out also as the three books: FotR, TTT & RotK with the Alan Lee watercolors in them to. They have been scanned and are available still on some FTP sites, and are listed as Lee01.jpg to Lee50.jpg. Unfortunately these names are somewhat cryptic and require that every file be uploaded before anybody can see what they actually pertain to.

As a favour to a friend, and to all the contributers of my two favourite news groups on Internet - the Tolkien news groups in the rec. and alt. heirarchies here is a list (as accurate as I can make it) of the Lee01-50 pictures. There are no titles as such they were excluded when going to press, but Alan's art is of such a high standard that with a little effort the names can be guessed.

A large number of the illustrations were titled by Alan but these were got from another publication from Harper Collins "Tolkien's World" 1992 ISBN 0 261 10276 1. I cross reference them with my own guesses.

Im a pretty big Tolkien fan.... well some could already tell from my name!

Anyway i've started to read the LOTR triliogy as i wait for the release of the movie.

For those that havent got through the Silmarillion i suggest yu give it another try.
I really liked it alot. It really isnt a story more like a short stories that bring the later novels together.

Some great characters are in the Silmarillion....the Vala Tulkas my favorite isnt mention much but i thought he was a great character. I would suggest going to the index every so often to make sure yu know who they are talking about when yu read the Silmarillion because different names are used for the same characters.

Also the first few chapter a very boring but as yu get more into the book it's awesome!

Thanks, dennil. I've read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, but it's been awhile. Also played Lord of the Rings, Vol. 1, on SNES.....(you spend way too much of your time in caves doing basically the same thing over and over and over again.....) Enjoyed the books, and the link tremendously!🙂 -kd5-

The one thing that bugged me about the SNES game was to have to start swinging before the opponent (e.g. bat, snake, wolf) got to you. Took a little practice to achieve the right timing and it never looked good. However, the outdoor imagery was delightful and I just loved the music in that game. 🙂
