I'd have to agree with you on that. BeOS, by and large, was a great OS. Very GUI fast, easy to use and its useability was much better than anything else I've played with before. My friend owned a BeBox (long since gutted) and he loved coding for that machine.Originally posted by: n0cmonkey
If it comes close to what BeOS was at it's peak, it may replace Mac OS X for best desktop OS ever in my opinion.

Its too bad Be went x86 so late -- they could have really made a significant threat to the x86 desktop market if they started earlier.

I wish they hadn't bothered with x86 at all and Apple had bought them along with NeXT. NeXt. nEXT. next. NEXT. NExt. NeXt... whatever.

Be would still be around.

That was getting too long
I have an iBook, not an iMac. But, if the original iMacs were running BeOS they would be current and still *fast*!

Ah ha, I figured you were a Mac user. Really though that seems like a bit of overkill to me, Apple already has the best interface by far
.
And don't any Windows people bring up XP, heh, they say (paraphrasing here) that the bet compliment is a copykat.

I got a Mac because of OS X. With some of the technologies they could have gotten from Be, Mac OS X could be twice as good.
If Apple had fetched Be than the chances are that Microsoft wouldn't have stood a chance.

Excuse me while I bust out in a uncontrollable fit of laughter....
It must be nice to live in your own little universe![]()
Well... it would have been a totally awesome OS, but Apple would have been cutting its own throat unless it drastically lowered its hardware prices or ported the product to the PC platform.... they've only done the former in the recent past and they still haven't done the latter.Indeed it must be, pray tell what color is the sky over there. I'm referring to windows as a desktop OS. If Apple had snagged Be and been able to effectively combine the technology of both OSs and this before the release of Win XP, then yes IMO things would look quite different today.
