Dual 2 GHz G5 processors and 2.25 gigs of ram just doesn't cut it these days.
2) The mac cost $1,800 loaded through a client. Shop Dell for a dual processor system, see what you come up with.
uh-huh...the CHEAPEST dual 2GHz G5 machine with 2GB RAM from Apple is $2820, and that's with NO warranty, the cheapest drives, no wireless, no monitor...
Please refer to the post above you. There's a reason why I didn't buy it from Apple.
Through a client? I thought you were 18? WTF
While you were in highschool taking notes, doing homework, getting b!tched at by teachers and probably being bullied in the locker room... I wasn't doing homework, I was producing for independant musicians, doing hired design projects, freelance illustration work and other creative jobs that would get my career off the ground before everyone else my age. Since I was 15 I've been getting horrible grades because I put all of my energy and time into my work. It's possible, believe me. I had to sacrifice my grades for what really mattered, and it paid off.
LOL. You sacrificed your grades in high school so that you can go out and buy a new computer? Man, you are SOOOOO in the big time now, man. Can I have your autograph?
I don't care what kind of money you're making, it's not worth sacrificing a college education for. And until I see pictures of you in your own house with your own car, I think you probably should STFU about your successes, since all it seems to have gotten you is a computer. Big whoop. We all have computers (obviously), and it doesn't take dual P5s to surf on ATOT, does it?
That's what you got out of a response to why I have clients at age 18? Umm.
I sacrificed my grades and work in school to start my creative career early. College is taken care of, I've been accepted on scholarship to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Good thing art schools look at a person and not a stamp of approval from an educational institution.
It's not like im rolling in dough, here. But like I said in response to the overpriced comment, I worked for it and got a great deal on it.
Yes, that's what I got out of it, because that's exactly what you said. Let me repeat it back to you so we have this straight:
"Since I was 15 I've been getting horrible grades . . . I had to sacrifice my grades for what really mattered . . . " What different interpretation do you expect people to take from this?
You start this thread by sh!tting all over everyone with "look at my desktop!" You keep spitting out pissing-contest-like comments like, "oh, I have dual P5s with 2 gigs of RAM." One of the things you haven't learned yet (and that's okay, because you're only 18 and you don't know sh!t about sh!t) is the concept of humility. Achievement through excellence doesn't really require logging on to ATOT and starting a flamewar by crapping on everyone, which is what you did.
If you like what you do, then by all means continue it. If the money is the only reason you're doing your work and ignoring your education, then you need to reevaluate your priorities.[/quote]
Okay lemme break it down for you.
1) "Since I was 15 I've been getting horrible grades . . . I had to sacrifice my grades for what really mattered . . . " Since I was 15 I've been concentrating on nothing but my work. I've focused on perfecting it, doing it efficiently, getting ideas through in fewer lines/words/colors. That's what really mattered, and what will in my future. What matters is what I can do as a creative person, not y=2x +(4-6). That goes for anybody. It was risky, and by no means could I be accepted into any reputable 4 year university to study law/science/math/whatever.
2) I started this thread to show a nice OpenGL interface. I agree it did come off poorly, but that's all I meant to do. I even was glad when one member posted that the same interface could be acheived on a windows machine using a few programs - great, that's how an interface should be.
3) I've only responded to flaming with details to back up why they are incorrect in their attempts to "own" me. People tell me how overpriced and underpowered they are, I tell them what a great deal I got and the specifications of such an "underpowered" system. Mentioning dual G5's with over 2 gigs of ram is perfectly valid to shut down such a comment. If I had an aging 32-bit single G4 system with little ram I would have easily shut my mouth, as many PCs can outperform it.
4) I do my work because I love it. Period. I get paid doing what I love, and plan to do so as long as I am able. I believe that my priorities are perfectly straight, at least for my needs as a human being. Sounds cheesy, but all people should follow their bliss... no matter what it takes. Anybody can follow orders, but can everybody change them?
Again I did not intend to start a 6-page flame war because of a desktop picture I posted. But when people want to try and bring in crap that isn't true, I'll be sure to shut them down.
