Let me get your stance correct.

You believe there are "levels" of racist insults. You believe that racial jokes against asians are worse than racial jokes against pollacks. You dont want to eradicate racial jokes across the board, as jokes against polish people arent as offensive (presumably, because they are white). When racial jokes are against a certain group, they are fine. When they are against a demographic which you deem
appropriate its considered a racial slur.

This is exactly the point you have made to me so far in this conversation.

So tell me, judge of racial slurs, which groups can and cant I make fun of?

Your stance is incorrect. A rude JOKE is not the same as a SLUR. It doesn't matter what color the person is, it's not a hard concept to understand. Telling a black to eat watermelon isn't the same as telling a black joke. The level of intent of hate is much stronger with a slur.

I think the reason you don't understand is because you don't have any historical background of how slurs have been used and continue to be used. All some of you understand in your little world is how the fck can talking about someone eating a taco be insulting? I mean, I go to Taco Bell everyday and have a Gordita, does that make me a racist? It's the logic of someone immature who has no clue how the world works.

I could see how it would suck to hear Polack jokes all the time, but the fact of the matter is that you're not a minority and it's still a joke. You tell a Polack joke to someone you just met who's Polish, they'd probably be irritated and I agree - it's rude. You tell an Asian to eat an eggroll, or a black to eat a watermelon, or a Jew to eat a bagel and you might just get your ass beat because that's rude and hateful and not even funny. I'm sure you still see no difference in this and that it's all the same to you.

Your stance doesn't make sense. You say that it's ok to make fun of Polish people because they're white, but then you say you can't make fun of Jews; all the Jews I know are white (including my mother, and by definition, myself). You say that minorities must get offended if someone singles them out by race, and if they don't, they must not care about their background. Who the fuck are you to tell people when they should or shouldn't be offended? I have a Korean friend who constantly plays himself as a stereotype, reciting the dialogue from "Short Round" in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Dr. Jones, Dr. Jones, no time for love Dr. Jones!). I have a black friend who loves fried chicken and watermelon, and when I asked him about it and how he feels about it as a stereotype, his answer was, "shit, n****, I don't care about all that; this shit is delicious." Should I have been offended at their blatant stereotyping of their own racial backgrounds? Should they be ashamed for perpetuating a stereotype? If they're OK with it, what business is it of yours? Maybe everyone in the world isn't as easily offended as you. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.

As to this story, the guy was stupid for saying this on the air, primarily because it fails as a joke, which is the only reason it was said. It's not funny. As for being offensive, I can vaguely see it; he assumed someone named Juan Pablo Montoya was Mexican, which, let's face it, in this country, is not a stretch to assume, and then he made a pointed claim about Mexicans. But who doesn't love tacos? They're delicious. Earlier in the thread someone assumed Vijay Singh was Indian. We guess at peoples' ethnicity from their names. Sometimes we're wrong. But most times you meet a Vijay, he's Indian. Most times you meet a Juan Pablo, he's Mexican. It's unreasonable to say that we should never guess; that's what human brains do naturally. It's also ridiculous that we are so easily offended by such prattle. I firmly believe in equality and fairness, but trying to pretend that everyone is exactly the same is taking things too far; we do have differences and we shouldn't feel we have to act as though they don't exist out of fear of offending someone.

"What if it had been a driver from New England and Griese said 'I'll bet he's out eating chowder!'" Would anyone be upset then?

Chowder isn't a known stereotype for an entire race: 404 Slur not found.

If Ichiro lost b/c he was "out eating eggrolls", then yes.
If Mayweather lost b/c he was "out eating watermelon", then yes.
If Vijay Singh lost b/c he was "out eating curry chicken", then yes.

Let me know if you still don't get it, I'll be happy to provide more.

When did 'TACO' become a racial slur? WTF.

When the assumption is made that you're out eating a food because it's associated with your race, it's in the least a demeaning comment and at worst a racial slur.

Demeaning? What the fuck is wrong with tacos?

You're not a minority, are you? It has nothing to do with the food Jesus C.

you have pretty thin skin.

i thought the comment was funny, only because the word taco is a funny word and is also slang for pussy. ever see that bevis & butthead show where he was going to give this chick spanish fly to get laid.
butthead says to bevis, "distract her while i slip it in her taco" (the chick was eating a taco),
bevis says back "aren't you suppose to give her the Spanish fly first?"
bwhahahaha

so maybe Montoya was out eating pussy? 😀

Read my response above regarding the difference between a hateful slur and joke.

All in all, I agree with you. I didn't think he *meant* to be malicious with the comment, just demeaning in a joking way. But demeaning is still demeaning, and many could have perceived it as malicious which would give the network a PR shtstorm.

Like I said earlier, you can joke about stereotypes with friends. Like Jihad said, when you're reaching a broad audience of people who aren't your friends, you need to censor yourself or stfu. If I heard someone on the train say, "Asians on this train should go home and eat eggrolls - they're taking up all the seats", I'd have say something to him. If it was my brother or buddy joking around then I don't give a dam because it's in a joking manner. There's a big difference.

So by your definition the person making the statement needs to have intent. Do you think Griese hates Hispanics since he cracked a taco joke? You scare me more than a real racist btw...

Just read your previous post. You think Griese MEANT to be demeaning? Really?

Listen to the clip.

He's clearly got something against Montoya. "It's the first time we've seen Jeff Gordon in the top five! And where's Juan Pablo Montoya? Ha-ha-ha, he's out having a taco!" He was clearly talking about Montoya in a negative/demeaning manner and thought it'd be cool to throw the word "taco" in there because he's a Latino. No, it wasn't exactly malicious but it's clear that he doesn't like Montoya and felt the need to take a jab at him by injecting something racial. Look at the Youtube comments, I'm not the only one who thought that. Maybe you should listen to the clip and judge for yourself.

BTW, you shouldn't be scared of me. I'm just trying to make a point that you should just watch what you say when you don't like someone, especially if in public.

uhh... for the same reason they lump states together and call them "The Midwest" ? Maybe because you may want to refer to a region rather than a list of states? Why would you have a problem with that?

Theres also "The Pacific Northwest" "The South", "The Southwest", "The Bible Belt", "The Great Plains" among others.

Exactly, asians can't tell difference between the white people neither (german, british, polish, russian, french, etc.)
