"What if it had been a driver from New England and Griese said 'I'll bet he's out eating chowder!'" Would anyone be upset then?

Chowder isn't a known stereotype for an entire race: 404 Slur not found.

If Ichiro lost b/c he was "out eating eggrolls", then yes.
If Mayweather lost b/c he was "out eating watermelon", then yes.
If Vijay Singh lost b/c he was "out eating curry chicken", then yes.

Let me know if you still don't get it, I'll be happy to provide more.

That would make sense if Vijay Singh was from India.

Also, when did Mexican become a race?

Oh, so white people can't be made fun of? Especially stupid white people? Come on man, get your head out of your ass. People make serious polish jokes all the time. They really think polish people are stupid. Its a stereotype of an entire race. The only difference here is that a lot of minorities in this country have their victim glasses on all the fucking time.

Now don't get me wrong. I don't think this guy should have said this on public tv, but its hardly something to get all riled up about.

I could see how it would suck to hear Polack jokes all the time, but the fact of the matter is that you're not a minority and it's still a joke. You tell a Polack joke to someone you just met who's Polish, they'd probably be irritated and I agree - it's rude. You tell an Asian to eat an eggroll, or a black to eat a watermelon, or a Jew to eat a bagel and you might just get your ass beat because that's rude and hateful and not even funny. I'm sure you still see no difference in this and that it's all the same to you.

Wow. This paragraph is just so dense I dont even know what to say. Do you even realize how ridiculous you sound? So its ok to make fun of certain people, but not others? How can you say they are different? Its all the same thing, and the way you are trying to marginalize one joke over the other just makes you look dumb.

^^^ What he said.

The only defense you have is that Polacks aren't a minority. Well perhaps not based on skin tone they aren't, but what the fuck does that matter? Can only minorities be made fun of?

Anyone old enough to remember this little gem from Howard Cosell? "He's on the forty, the thirty, the twenty, wow, just look at that monkey go!"

A Polack joke is a rude joke, but the fact that you're not highly offended by it should tell you something as a white man. Telling someone to go eat an eggroll, bagel, or watermelon is not a joke, it's a hateful slur. You two are mental midgets if you cannot see the difference. I dare you to go out today and tell one of the aforementioned foods to the appropriate minority (someone you don't know) and report back what happens.

The only difference, as I've said before, is that you fucking people have your victim glasses on. You always think the world is out to get you. I don't see how you can say there is ANY difference other than who it is being said to and how they take it. So basically Polish people shrug it off and laugh (at intelligence insults) while spanish or black people get pissed off and throw a fit about what they supposedly eat a lot of? If anything, the Polacks have more of a reason to be upset. They are actually being insulted. Whereas the blacks/spanish are just being told their group of people eats a lot of a certain food. Which one is more insulting?

I can see how it could be taken as a racist joke, but even in looking at it in that way it?s really not that bad. He could have said he wasn?t in the top five cause he was in the Home Depot parking lot looking for work or something along those lines.

My point is, it was his stupid attempt at humor. He wasn?t trying to be hateful in anyway and he apologized for it.

Move on,??

and BTW, with all this taco talk,..... I'm SOOOO having home made chicken tacos tonight for dinner!

Next time my girlfriend is busy and can't hangout, and I'm going to tell her that she must have been doing math and eating kimchi. I'm sure she'll break down to tears from all the hate and racism.

Let me get your stance correct.

You believe there are "levels" of racist insults. You believe that racial jokes against asians are worse than racial jokes against pollacks. You dont want to eradicate racial jokes across the board, as jokes against polish people arent as offensive (presumably, because they are white). When racial jokes are against a certain group, they are fine. When they are against a demographic which you deem
appropriate its considered a racial slur.

This is exactly the point you have made to me so far in this conversation.

So tell me, judge of racial slurs, which groups can and cant I make fun of?

I'm not offended, and I identify myself as both (I usually select black on racial demographic polls, however). Why do you feel I have to be offended? I'm not offended by anything...

And I think that if you feel that I must be offended by something you would consider offensive if you were my race, then it sounds like you have a hint of racism in your blood.

It's fine if you're too dense to know when someone is making fun of you because of your race. But maybe you don't care enough to stick up for yourself? /shrug It has nothing to do with me being racist but the fact that I'm actually intelligent enough to identify when someone is insulting me because of my race. I don't know many black people that would put up with such comments, and I have many friends who are black.

Your stance doesn't make sense. You say that it's ok to make fun of Polish people because they're white, but then you say you can't make fun of Jews; all the Jews I know are white (including my mother, and by definition, myself). You say that minorities must get offended if someone singles them out by race, and if they don't, they must not care about their background. Who the fuck are you to tell people when they should or shouldn't be offended? I have a Korean friend who constantly plays himself as a stereotype, reciting the dialogue from "Short Round" in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Dr. Jones, Dr. Jones, no time for love Dr. Jones!). I have a black friend who loves fried chicken and watermelon, and when I asked him about it and how he feels about it as a stereotype, his answer was, "shit, n****, I don't care about all that; this shit is delicious." Should I have been offended at their blatant stereotyping of their own racial backgrounds? Should they be ashamed for perpetuating a stereotype? If they're OK with it, what business is it of yours? Maybe everyone in the world isn't as easily offended as you. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.

As to this story, the guy was stupid for saying this on the air, primarily because it fails as a joke, which is the only reason it was said. It's not funny. As for being offensive, I can vaguely see it; he assumed someone named Juan Pablo Montoya was Mexican, which, let's face it, in this country, is not a stretch to assume, and then he made a pointed claim about Mexicans. But who doesn't love tacos? They're delicious. Earlier in the thread someone assumed Vijay Singh was Indian. We guess at peoples' ethnicity from their names. Sometimes we're wrong. But most times you meet a Vijay, he's Indian. Most times you meet a Juan Pablo, he's Mexican. It's unreasonable to say that we should never guess; that's what human brains do naturally. It's also ridiculous that we are so easily offended by such prattle. I firmly believe in equality and fairness, but trying to pretend that everyone is exactly the same is taking things too far; we do have differences and we shouldn't feel we have to act as though they don't exist out of fear of offending someone.
