I moved from VT to MA. I miss:

Proper butter
Proper bread
Proper lard
Proper beer growlers (you can get the same brew here but bottles...just aren't the same)
Fresh, organic, locally grown produce available everywhere you go

edit: Forgot raw milk

I know it's gonna sound Cliche' ... but have you tried Stew Leonards? I used to make the Trip to the one in Danbury, CT all the time... The one in Newington, CT shouldn't be TOO far..

not my homeland, but from my fatherland, where I spent every summer growing up (far northwest new england + quebec/montreal):

salmon pie
maple cream cookies
maple fudge
poutine

my "homeland" is Portland, OR... I can't really think of any native foods that I would miss by not living there anymore (bearing in mind that I left the Pacific Northwest in the early 90's, before local farms and wineries and all that shit became the rage)

No car but thanks for the suggestion 😎

maple fudge
poutine

Mannnnnnn how could I forget those two. Poutine (even though Nectar's pales in comparison to almost anything you'll get in Montreal) is my favorite drunk food in the world.

Its not really my home land, but when I lived in Turkey for a little bit they had this amazing bread stuff that was like a waffle. It was so good, I can still recall the taste, but I have no idea what the heck it was called.

<== Cheeshead

Fresh cheese curds
Hard dried summer sausage (not the plasticine coated nitrofied tallow one finds everywhere now, unfortunately even in the land of purity and wholesomeness that is my ancestral homeland). Real summer sausage is actually good.
High fat ice cream

Yumurtalı ekmek?

As a native of South Mississippi, not far from NOLA, currently living in East TN and soon in MA, I miss real Cajun Food and real Soul Food.

The only places that serve food (especially vegetables) with any flavor around here are the Thai and Szechuan restaurants.

I miss real pizza and cheese steaks, tomatoes, corn on the cob from PA (and NJ - veggies). Also good diners, doughnut and bagel shops.

lol at the tags...

I grew up in upstate NY, now I live in Arizona. There are definitely things that I can't get here, or at least get easily.

1. Good italian food, there are very few good places here. In NY they were everywhere.
2. Maple syrup, the stuff that most people call syrup here is hilariously bad.
3. Apples, 3 kinds of apples at a store is not a good variety. Back home it wasn't uncommon to have 10+. They also didn't taste like potatoes
4. Apple cider donuts, soooo tasty
5. Fresh corn, like came off the stalk earlier that day fresh
6. Pick your own fruit, berries and things

I've never left, but I miss falafel from the parking lot at a Dead show. They always tasted great, and the prices were always very good.

Please....for the sake of the people that live(d) in the remaining 95% of NY state, refer to yourself as a "New York Citier". Most of the rest of us don't have any idea what half that stuff you listed is, since it's "native" to NYC area ONLY. 😉

Being originally from UPSTATE New York, I miss Zweigle's white hots (aka "Pork Hots", which I make certain to get some every time I'm home for a visit), and Genesee Cream Ale (can't stand their regular or lite beer, but love me a Genny Cream!! ). I'm lucky, though, as I can occasionally find it here in north TX.

And, like Bignate603 said, some classic Italian food, as well as any wine (with grapes grown and pressed in NY state) or apples from NY. Always thought it was hilarious that people considered Washington state to be known for apples, when they grow *MAYBE* four varieties there, versus 8 or 10 types of apples grown in NY. 😎

but 95% of the population of the state live within the 5 boroughs.
We don't care about the rest of you 5%'ers

😛

I would be happy if i could find these in the local grocery store:

Jamaican beef patties make me miss being fat 🙁 (though spicy, obviously... I used to work down the block from a take-out joint that deep fried them with a bit of mozzarella cheese)

but 40% of the population of the state live within the 5 boroughs.

Fixed. I know NYCers (current and former) like to think it's the center of the universe and all, but really less than half of the state lives there.
