I just upgraded to a later version of it and have gotten it to look almost the way I want it. The only thing is that I can't seem to figure out how to force the "currently playing" entry in my playlist to be of white text and green/gray background color. Instead, the selection which my mouse clicked on takes on this wanted color profile.

If I click on a song to play it, I want the selection to follow through with the next song (not stick on the original song while the next song is playing)

What I am describing used to work int the 0.8 series foobar2k, but it seems to not be default in the 0.9 series...

In other words, how can I force the "selected track" to equal the "now playing track".

Thanks!

P.S. I might need help with scripting? I tried some Global scripting (from a google search that applied to 0.8 series foobar2k), but they didn't do anything (in the 0.9x version) ...

I'm using v0.9.5.4, and I believe that Playback ----> Cursor Follows Playback is what you want?

Personally, I didn't bother customizing the standard setup, I chose a theme one. I think FooAvA was the one that I ended up liking. There was another one that would've been nice, but it had some issues (some very frequently used features were buried under multiple menus which made it a pain to use them) which the developer refused to change. The one that I liked did have a couple of issues as well (namely, scaling and some strangeness with being able to hide the scroll bar in the playlist), but it looked nice and worked great for what I how use it.

Yes, that sounds exactly like what I want. I am using 9.5.3 and I just found that option as I was typing this lol. Its not in the preferences menu but rather, in the Playback dropdown

YAY it works! Thanks a bunch darkswordsman17.

I was going to try some of the themes, but I haven't gotten around to understanding all the things I have to download to make them work... I don't mind the "boring look of the standard, although I wouldn't mind taking what I have and rounding out the corners and applying some non-grey colorations to the outer borders of the program window...

Here is what I have so far...

Yeah, I hate when they do stupid stuff like that.

I do agree, sometimes I do like the simplicity of the standard interface. It's not difficult to setup different themes. The one I was using had a walkthrough that told you what you needed to do. After the initial install it doesn't really require fussing with, and its pretty easy to go between the standard and other themes. I actually never bothered before, when I using version 7 or 8, and then I got a new computer and upgraded to the most recent one and decided to check out some alternative interfaces.

I think some have been working to get a cover flow type of interface working, but I haven't checked in a while so I don't know how they've progressed if at all.

For what it's worth, you can still use Columns UI in the newest versions of foobar.
The new Default UI is pretty good, but still lacking in plugins, since the SDK has yet to be released.

I'm currently using Columns UI in foobar 0.9.5.5. Example

The main reason I use Foobar2000 is so I can avoid stuff like ColumnsUI - all of my music is very well laid out in my folder structures, so when I want to listen to an album, I just find the m3u and I'm good. Small player that barely takes up any real estate on my screen = perfect. I finally had to install iTunes because of my iPhone but man do I hate it.

yeah, I am using Columns UI as well. Just for the spectro peak analyzer though.

How did you get the top section of your window to have curved edges? Also colored non-gray?

Thanks!

It looks pretty good on Vista too. (shot before I from changed coloring and a couple other things)

If you're talking about something else, I'm not sure what you meant.

Edit: New work setup, identical to what I have at home now.

My bad, yeah, I use the classic windows 2000 look :p

I couldn't stand the weird start menu of Windows XP.

You do know you can have the XP theme with classic Start menu right? I'm fairly sure you can on Vista as well (talk about screwy Start menu, Vista's Applications menu bugs me).

I'd use foobar2000 but iTunes is just something that works for all the f-ing podcasts I listen to. If I didn't listen to podcasts I'd definitely use foobar. :) I really love the program. Although I wish by default there was an option to just enable god-damn media keys. I hate having to redo that EVERYTIME a new version comes out. (I like new betas) :( Also, there is some iffy audio problems that they haven't resolved... It's sad. (Weird noises in songs that other programs don't do)

One simple question about Foobar 2K v0.9.6.2
When ripping a CD, can you select only the tracks you want to rip or do you have to rip the entire CD?

Select-then-convert works fine.

Foobar is just as good as EAC, btw.

Where is this "Select-then-convert" option? I'm not seeing it.

Alright, i insert a CD, open Foobar, go to "File"-->"Open Audio CD" & select the rip button. I do the "lookup" to get the tag info. Right clicking on any of the tracks just give me Cut, Copy, Paste & Delete options.
Hitting the "Rip" button to go to the "Converter Setup" page, right clicking on any of the track does nothing.

Hmm, I don't know. I can select the tracks (just select them in the main part where they're listed, and then right click and Convert is there which opens a new window with options).

First of all, thanks for you help darkswordsman17 & s44.

Looks like i need to do this:
Insert a CD, open Foobar, go to "File"-->"Add to playlist"
Hi-lite all, right click-->Tagging-->get info
Then hi-lite the songs you want, right click-->convert-->....

Who would of thought that when you want to rip songs from a CD, DON'T choose the rip option

Always glad to help. Foobar can be a little strange at times, but generally is pretty intuitive.

Thanks for bumping the thread. The Cursor Follows Playback thing finally fixed what was driving me insane.
