😀 😀 That's too bad 😀 😀 Which mini-team are you on? 😀 😀

Just kidding 😉

Cause I'll be joining you with lower ppd for a week 🙁

You just wait.... i'll have at least 5 more boxes up by wed muhahhaahhahahhahahha

😀 😀 😀

As of now I have not seen any dissenting posts, I ave not received any dissenting PMs, phone calls, Skype-calls, catcalls (my avatar is a tiger) either.
Markfw900 and cupcak3 like the idea, and Zensal wanted to come in to balance things. Thus I'll do the preliminary stats in a minute or two (will take an hour or so before it comes up).
Tally ho! This is great fun! 😀

Edit: Arrrgggghh! even more spelling errors! Why do I forget the spell-check? :Q

You have done what is necessary to join. Now you only (???) need to crunch! 😉

OK, TeAm-mates and racers, above are the new stats. for the new teams in the race.

1. Thank you GLeeM for the inspiration and the tricks of the trade which became obvious after a few minutes of analysis of your way presenting the stats. It took some time, but we oldsters take our time to get it! I now I only have to pour the numbers into a document and all is done ...

2. I have included all the "new" members as if they would have started December 1. The reason for this decision: It would make the race more unbalanced, especially for The Folders. I like the idea of a tight race to the finish, and this also makes keeping the tabs and stats much easier for me. This is a stats-master's decision. If you have any other idea, please PM me.

3. Now The Folders have an advantage - especially if you look at the current ppd. That number is of course subject to daily change, but if you look at the December-ppd (which is calculated by dividing the (production in December) by the (number of crunching-days)) then The Folders have an advantage there too. And that number is not so variable as the daily ppd (which is based on the output for the last 7 days - if I remember correctly).

4. Now the race is even more balanced: The Folders produced in this race a daily average of 10421 ppd, TAS-F@H 10369 ppd.
The difference is 52 ppd (!) which is 0.5% of the daily production.
The difference in totals (928 points) is 0,248% of both mini-teams total production.
It is also slightly less than 9% of any teams daily production. The average difference between the teams is 1753 ppd.
OTOH the variation in the difference is very big (from +6407 to - 7235).
Considering the variability in e.g. my own production (2040 points one day 493 points an other day in the same week) the difference is ridiculously small. But may become important later on ...

Analysis of the race continues (Am I having fun? 😀) YES!

1. The race has - in December - produced 374214 points for the TeAm. The TeAm has produced 960 486 points. The racers have thus contributed 38,96% of the total output!

2. In the last three weeks the production has increased very nicely:
the week starting 11.27.05 resulted in 357 931 points and 2 401 WUs (<== Starting point for comparisons below)
the week starting 12.04.05 resulted in 392 842 points and 2 214 WUs (+ 34 911 points = +9.75%)
the week starting 12.11.05 resulted in 407 670 points and 2 198 WUs (+ 49 739 points = +13.9% compared to 1st week, +14 828 points = +3.77% compared to 2nd week)
Interesting development - fewer WUs but higher point yields!

3. I will later - not now - look at the contribution of new crunchers (i.e. those who either started the race with 0 points or 0 ppd) but that I will do when the race has ended.
If we look at the ppd though, we have a few rockets (I look at those who have a difference in ppd of 200 or more or who started at 0):

Among the TAS-F@H-members:
1685 ___ amd_borg
_960 ___ TAS-Petrusbroder
_734 ___ GLeeM
_718 ___ MoFunk
_436 ___ rise4310
_349 ___ kb3edk
_328 ___ salvorhardin
__79 ___ jened
__39 ___ Cooper76
5328 ___ total

Among the Folders:
_800 ___ Pokey_TA
_734 ___ Martin_Trevino
_687 ___ cupcak3
_771 ___ xbassman
_442 ___ Hurricane_Andrew
_526 ___ Uppsala9496
_307 ___ GimpyDaHoundDog - MDE
_235 ___ Insidious
4502 ___ total
9830 ___ Grand Total

A very nice increase in ppd - almost 10K! It is also visible in the TeAm's stats here!
If I have missed someone, please PM me and I will adjust the stats!

4. Some TAS-crunchers have advertised a decrease in crunching power, and some Folders have advertised in increase in crunching power.
This will make it very interesting, but we should consider carefully if new additions to the team should be made.

Now it is time for brunch for my family and myself.
Have a nice Sunday, enjoy the winter. I know I will: the skis are waiting, the sun is shining and it is -15 degrees C (=5 degrees F) cold - a totally wonderful day!

Great stats petrusbroder. I'm glad you are enjoying this; it shows and it makes things enjoyable for everyone. Thanks for all you've done. .....................(and will do) 😉

Some things I have done to increase Pokey's Points: I fixed one frozen up cruncher, I removed "-advmethods" flag from most I think, and I have switched a A64 3200+ from 100% Seti to 50/50 F@H, and now to 100% F@H. ( that probably helped the most) 😉

I still get an occasional 48 pointer, but seem to be getting my share of 600 pointers. 😀

For those interested, for this race I am trying to keep five at the office and five at home crunching. (thank you Seti classic for getting me addicted.) :Q:disgust:😛

They aren't all speed demons though..........

Wait, I thought we we supposed to use -advmethods ? Did that recommendation change ?

I had noticed, on my AMD boxes, that when I tried -advmethods on a box it wouldn't get any 600 point wu's. Then I removed the flag and it started retreiving them! 🙂

That said I just finished a few of the crappy wu's. (95 ppd vs. 245+ ppd)

Great job Peter! You should get a job with Fox Sports! They could always use a good Statistition. 😉

yeah, it turns out that some of the 'juicy' work units are no longer adv-beta and you'll miss out of them if you use the -advmethods flag. most notably, the 600 point ones.

-Sid

(note to self.... xbassman is FAST 😛 )

I've also removed the -advmethods flag on my AMD-machines and got 600 pointers right away - it may take some time to crunch them (3 - 4 days on some comps) but it is very efficient and gives a good ppd. 🙂

Also, does anyone know how much ram you should have to get these 600 pointers? On my win boxes i'm getting them w/ 1 gig of ram and on my linux box i only had 256

I have 3 boxes that can't transmit units. I never usually watch this close. Anybody know how long this usually stays this way ? I have one box doing nothing, "no more work to do"

Peter thanks for the stats 🙂 You were at the top of the list of great TeAmmates, now you have climbed so much higher that there must be some empty spaces below you 😉
Just doing three columns makes my head hurt 😕

Wait, I thought we we supposed to use -advmethods ? Did that recommendation change ?
The WUs numbered 147_ and 148_ are few and far between, the ones that needed -advmethods flag and gave better PPD than the 600 pointers. So you are better off without the flag to get 600 pointers.

Do the 450 point QMD's still give the highest PPD?
Yes!

Also, does anyone know how much ram you should have to get these 600 pointers? On my win boxes i'm getting them w/ 1 gig of ram and on my linux box i only had 256
I think you should get them with 256MB. They use about 100MB when running.
QMDs need 512MB.
(I think up to 32MB can be shared for video on those type motherboards)

I have 3 boxes that can't transmit units. I never usually watch this close. Anybody know how long this usually stays this way ? I have one box doing nothing, "no more work to do"
Are these Win98 boxes so that you can't run the new v5 client?
Either way, you could try stopping the client and restart with the "-send all" flag.

The new v5 client will send to the Collection Server if the sending server has gone down since sending you the WU. With the v4 client you have to wait for the sending server to come back up. Or you could copy the directory to a W2k or XP computer, then copy a v5 client into it and then -send all. The v5 client changes the queue such that v4 will not work anymore in that directory so just delete that directory after successfully sending in the WUs. This should work and if it doesn't no loss because you copied the directory.
If this doesn't work, there is a utility that might be able to fix the queue. Look under Other F@H Tools in the Tools List thread.

"no more work to do" - this is what I see when the client cannot connect to the internet after finishing a WU on my dial-up computer.

I use this in the shortcut "E:\Folding_home\cpu0\FAH502-Console.exe" and "E:\Folding_home\cpu1\FAH502-Console.exe". all boxes run run2k, and run in a window so I can easily see the progress. The core exe's are FahCore_65.exe and FahCore_79.exe at the moment.

mark,

Are any of those installations on multi-processor systems (or have more than one instance running)?

If so you need to include -local in your startup command

eg: "E:\Folding_home\cpu1\FAH502-Console.exe -local" Otherwise, F@H will get confused where to look for files and stuff.

You might also want to consider the -forceasm flag which forces usage of highly optimized assembly code if available

and finally, you might want to use the -verbosity 9 flag which will allow more information to be displayed in your window (and in fahlog.txt file) to help with issues like you have now.

Could you post a cut/past of the applicable portions of the fahlog.txt file here? We might find something helpful in it's contents.

try starting with this: "E:\Folding_home\cpu1\FAH502-Console.exe -local -forceasm -verbosity 9"

WOHOO!!!!
I just broke 1200 PPD average.

Don't know how long I can keep it up for though, since I'm losing a box soon.

Great job on the stats/race Peter!!

I have 6 dual systems, one that doesn't run most of the time. I can;t remember why, but I removed forceacm ages ago for a good reason. All dual systems have individual folders for each cpu, and that works fine. The one that had all the problems ? the ethernet port went bad on the motherboard !!!!! So I got put another ethernet card in it to fix that problem ! So all are back to folding. Also my 820D system didn't die, but both F@H windows abended somehow. I fired them back up, but lost the 2 cores for I don't know how many days. I need to babysit these puppies, now that my miniteam is depending on me.

All is well now, and I hope I get some of those 600 pointers coming in !
