400$ for one month of electricity with 7 systems folding. 🙁🙁
Normally, I pay <150$... Shows you how much those systems consume. 1KW/h is at 11.23 cents right now. Add on everything else and prices become evil.

Move to SETI!!!! Just as soon as those aliens get contacted and give us the secret to unlimited hassle-free power, we'll be all set! Then when they give us the cure for cancer and all kinds of other diseases, we'll have a problem because all our favorite DC projects will shut down. Prime numbers? they probably have books filled with them! 😛

Wow power cost must be high where you are. I have 16 machines running and$425.00 is the highest I've had my power bill go and that's in the middle of summer.

If you can, leave the most efficient - points wise per electricity cost - computer(s) going :thumbsup:

That would be P4 with QMD or maybe low voltage mobile chips.

OUCH.

Electricity averages 12 to 12.5c/kWh here. I assume you are referring to $400 CAD which is ~$340 here. That is pretty steep!

Electricity itself only costs about 300$. The rest are various "improvement" fees and taxes.

Assume a 30 day month and that leaves you with a 3KW load... for 7 computers? Unless you are also running 7 monitors, 430W/computer is a bit unrealistic. (my sytems (see sig) will each run fine on a 300W PSU which includes start-up overhead... Steady state is well below that rating. (had to do this for a short time between replacements).

so there may be some other things in the house that need turned off too.

don't get me wrong, you're facing a $250/month electric bill jump... I wouldn't be willing to do even a small fraction of that for a DC project. Let alone the cost you put into your hardware.

So I guess my message is thanks for giving it a shot and I don't blame you a bit for your decision.

Well, each proc consumes about 100W or more. One of the seven that I have online is a dual Xeon 120NM @ 1.6V. That guy must consume a fair ammount of electricity. 🙁

Duallies are usually pretty good for points per electricity used.

My dual LV Xeon 1.6@2.5 running two QMDs gets about 540 ppd.

They're running at 3.2GHz right now with 1GB TCCD.
 
Thats why I have 2 X2's, twice the cpu power at the same cost. How many of yours are Intel ? Intel sucks a lot more power....

BTW, with 12 cpu's running 24/7, my cost was $200 a month (no X2's). Now I am running 2 X2's, a dual Opteron box, and 3 other Athlon64 single core boxes, and it runs about $120 a month (along with the house too)
