I just bought a Intel Xeon E5 2687W 8/16 core to put in the cruncher. I'll be here on the 3rd or 4th of January coming from Mesa Az. so should bring with it some sunshine to banish the snow flakes. (I was born in Az and lived there on and off.)
So now I guess I might as well sell off the i7 3930... anybody interested?

Nice hardware you have there, Stitch. I would love a 3930K as part of my fleet but alas, Christmas bills are coming and I'm not looking forward to seeing it!

I thought I overclocked my GPUs to hard and drivers crashed after installing a 8 core Xeon then 2 brain cells clicked together when I got Gigabytes overclocking gizmo working and walah my fresh install of win 7 pro started working when I slowed the memory speed to 1333 from 1866. 10 days of wasted production time. Now I have 20 wu at a time processing 10 on each 7950 GPU.

From WCG

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,34590

In order to resolve an ongoing performance issue impacting the grid, we need to halt all access to the grid database starting at 3:00 UTC on Jan 22 through 3:00 UTC on Jan 23. During this time your computer will not be able to fetch new work to process and it will not be able to report complete work back to our servers. Additionally, in order to keep our filesystem from filling up, we will need to prevent files from being uploaded to our servers during this time as well. However, during this time the website and forums should remain available.

The technical details about why we need to take this outage are available here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=408639

We apologize for the need to take this extended outage and we appreciate your patience as we work through this issue.

It sounds like the servers do not have enough disk IO to keep up with the log file entries they are writing. The technical thread was a very good read. I am interested to read what they have for a server architecture.

I'm tired and could use some help on locating an inexpensive board that will overclock and do CrossFireX to do GPU crunching with two HD 7950s. Thermal heat is 77 watt on the cpu so a suggestion on a cooler and a power supply would be helpful. 220 watts on the 7950s.

Thanks
Bruce

Now that we are in the new year, what will be the end-of-year goal? 50th place in the world? 25th?

At our current rate of production, we should be hitting rank 58 by year's end. We are sitting at number 72 at the moment. Is breaking into the top 50 this year realistic? I think it's doable if we can increase production from existing members. Bringing in some fresh meat via recruiting would help too.

Current producers based on yesterday's data:

How about the BIOSTAR TA990FXE?

As for cooler, the Hyper 212 Plus/Evo are great budget coolers.

The CAPSTONE PSUs have great reviews. If that promo code worked on newegg.ca, I would totally jump on the CAPSTONE-750-M deal. But it doesn't so I'm going to go cry. :(

Rosewill CAPSTONE Series CAPSTONE-750-M 80 PLUS GOLD + $30 off w/ promo code EMCXWWN46, ends 1/23

I got a seasonic gold 850 watt for $139.99.
I went with a closed loop watercooler H80i for 84.99 from Tiger Direct.
and I think the best power is available from Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H.

I hope to o/c to 4.6 the i7 3770K

What speed of memory should I use??? My knowledge is up to date on Intel Socket 2011 but not on this.

Thanks in advance and thanks for the stats I pulled 227,000 today since validation is backlogged.

Doh, I have no idea why I recommended a AMD motherboard for your 3770K! Apologies. That Gigabyte is a good board. Another one you might want to take a look at is the Asus P8Z77-V Pro. I went with a Maximus V Formula on my 3770K. Pricey but I scored a really good deal at the time.

As for memory, I would just stick with some high quality 1600 MHz RAM. The gains in performance is but a small increment once you go beyond 1600 MHz. Even the difference between 1333 and 1600 is tiny.

3 of my computers are unable to get work for HCC. CPU or GPU. Either the feeder has run dry or I have an issue on my end. Anyone able to confirm lack of work on their end?

Neither of my CPU crunchers has any WUs for HCC right now. Not sure if that's due to a problem, or just pure coincidence though. I am not using my GPU for HCC, so I can't say anything at all in that regard.

Thanks for looking geecee. I got some new work for both CPU and GPU not too long ago, so it looks like the feeder is replenished.

Unexpected Outage - started at 0:30 UTC on Jan 29 and is continuing

We experienced a serious unexpected outage last night starting at 0:30 UTC. We are starting to bring some elements of the system back up and have just now been able to get the website and forums back online.

You will currently not be able to upload or download work.

My rigs have been sitting idle since yesterday night. Correlizer still have work? Might jump on that for a bit.
