i looked into this for a trip i took a month ago. i called the TSA and asked and they told me it was ok. I took a bottle of vodka and a bottle of whiskey in my backpack as carryon and wasn't hassled one bit.

"As long as it's less than 70% alcohol (140 proof) you can transport it in checked bags."

Don't know about the policy for carry-on.

its the same for carryon, as long as they are unopened. should be ok on any airline, that's what the TSA told me. I did it on Southwest flying to Vegas.
