These people need to get over it already. I think they should fly 3 to 4 planes real low daily. It's been what 8 years almost? Shit.... More people died California earth quakes and no one gives a shit when they have a little tremble.

I'm tired of the POOR 9/11 freaks and the 9/11 day and I'm real tired of the stupid results and rights that were taken away because of it. Bush handled the whole thing poorly and too bad we had an idiot at the helm when it happened.

Yeah, 9/11 it's a bad day. Great, now get over it. Who cares!

and what personal experience do you have with something like this, living in Hawaii, to tell people working a couple blocks away from the WTC that they should just shrug their shoulders when they see an abnormally low flying plane with a fighter jet on its tail flying at them?

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Nope. Once again, panic was not a reasonable reaction in that situation.

* The plane was clearly a presidential plane. The odds of THAT being hijacked are low.
* The fighters were escorting, not attacking the plane
* A pair of fighters around the presidential plane is standard procedure.

* The plane was CIRCLING. Yeah, a plane is going to circle a city for fifteen minutes with fighters on its ass and THEN ram a building.
* dumb shit
* more dumb shit
* I'm an asshole
* I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Seriously man? Seriously? You can tell? Watch this. I see a white plane w/ maybe a stripe or some shit on it for 15 secs as its buzzing between buildings, and you would think:

"Hey, that's Air Force One! Cool! Kinda weird the President is flying over the tops of buildings in New York Fucking City when he's supposed to be in Washington saving the economy or something, but that's cool. He's prolly just going to a UN meeting or something and is about to parachute out the side any minute now. The F-16s are prolly just helping spotting the jump. I think I'll stand here and wave! Go Obama GO!"

I mean, how on Earth can people possibly confuse that scene with this one?! Dumbass liberals hahaha. Sure, between JFK, Newark and Laguardia there is prolly an airplane from every international airline and cargo plane on the planet, but AF1 is very distinctive, being that it is white, and has a stripe of course, and lives in DC.... where the president is supposed to be.

Another video.

Even at home in Canada, watching this plane manoeuver gives me the jitters. Memories resurfacing of when I watched the second 9/11 plane live on television. Sadness...:(

My first thought when I read the article was that people in NYC need to get a grip and stop overreacting, but after seeing those videos I have to agree I would be fucking terrified too.

The whole incident was the product of a stupid, ill conceived idea followed up by piss poor communication.

I'm not sure the communication was piss poor, other than NYC staff to the mayor. There are security reasons they might not have publically announced the flight plan.

Especially because the low flight path would make it an easier target.

I was surprised how much New Yorker reacted to it, for what it's worth.

You were suprised by how much New York reacted? 9/11 is something everyone is reminded of almost daily. Personally I commute on 78 in NJ and everytime I drive back from work on the pulaski skyway I notice the fact that the twin towers are no longer in the NYC skyline, I am reminded 5 days a week. A lot of people died, hundreds of times more people were directly connected to a death, your apparent callousness is pretty sad.

I was in DC on 9/11, a block from the White House, a suspected target of the 4th plane, and one of my brothers-in-law was in the Pentagon when it was hit. Luckily, he got out fine. I agree with Craig234 here - New Yorkers are over-reacting to this.

To those whom are saying "whats the big deal about AF1 flying around NYC", check out the youtube videos.

I'm one of the first to criticize the post-9/11 climate of fear. But if I looked out my window and saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMoy8JprKI0

I think I would be scared poopless too (especially the portion from ~30 secs onward).

And for you Obamapoligizer-bots claiming it's not Obama's fault because he didn't know anything about it, you are full of crap. Obama is directly 100% in charge of where and what all the AF1 planes are doing at all times. It's not like some air force guy or even his chief of staff can just go out and say "let's take her out for a spin and a nice photo op". This would have had to be planned and approved by him from the beginning.

I have to defend Obama, he has never had good judgment, so this is no surprise.

Obama has time after time used bad judgment and it got him in office so why should he change.....

If Obama is so terrible blah blah blah, why the fuck don't you move to another country? I'd be more than happy to get a fund started for you to help with this. I'd even donate $500 towards it. I'm sure from ATOT alone we could raise enough to get you where ever you wanted. Wouldn't want you to be forced to live somewhere with a leader who has never made a good decision.

All of that for a picture that's not even that good.

I think it's purdy - it's a tough pic to take. I've tried to get decent pics of lower Manhattan flying into Newark and it ain't easy - but we never had good light and a fighter escort :p .

And for the most part this thing is meh. What it shows me is how a few panicky people can create group hysteria - like screaming ""FIRE"" in a crowded theater.

I think it's insightful that the *Miracle on the Hudson* flight flew 'decending' over the Bronx at less than 2,000 feet and effectively flew through Manhattan at 400 feet for nearly 2 minutes ...

I imagine some folks on the ground were frightened - but we never heard a peep about it.

Oh yeah, he's serious, which is why I stopped arguing with him. I mean, where else can you go when someone says something as ludicrous as this:

You can tell Air Force One from a standard 747 at a glance from the ground? I assure you, you are in the minority with that ability.

From the front? No. From the sides, absolutely.
