Not only that but this isnt some sort of life saving service that they are denying nor is it physically harming the gay community in any way. Its a choice made by the private owners not to provide a service that can easily be gotten elsewhere.

They are no deny services to gays anyway.

They are denying services to certain events (same-sex marriages).

So I can sue the local pet store for not selling me that rabbit I was going to butcher and eat?

Lady told me if I was going to eat the rabbit she was not going to sale it to me.

Only if you are also gay, then you can make a case about it.

Well, let me put it another way: It's BS that they are adhering to a "higher law". Even if they believe in a god and accept the Bible as fact, there's no where within the Bible that supports their position. In fact, it is the opposite.

You have not read Leviticus have you.

The florist broke the law the florist will lose.

If the florist was a private business doing private, not public sales they may have a defense. Since they operate a public storefront they are in violation of Washington state law.

There was a similar issue with a bakery and wedding cake in Oregon, the bakery lost.

Wonder if the same people attacking the florist would be alright if it was a Muslim who refused to serve women or gays? They wouldn't dare say anything.

Lets throw a twist in with your comment.

A few months ago Ultra-orthodox Jews had a meeting at Mets' stadium, and there was not a single woman there.

I do not see the government suing Ultra-orthodox Jews because they discriminate against women.

But then again, jews were sued in new york over a dress code - http://www.religionnews.com/2013/02/28/new-york-city-sues-orthodox-shops-over-dress-codes/

The florist did not break the law. The article makes it quite clear they have no problem providing service to gays.

The simply do not provide service for same-sex marriages. Unless you can show they would provide service for a same-sex marriage between 2 straight men no discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation occurred.

This is nothing more than a hypocritical Democrat AG trying to force liberal ideas of marriage on to private citizens.

How many straight people have a same-sex marriage?

I can agree with this. As a Christian, I think they should have taken the opportunity to show their patrons love. Not hate and exclusion.

Bigots, racists, and outright haters.... the only protected classes that matter. Libertarians and GOP alike, cut from the same cloth. You all sound like winners stuck back in the 50's when you didn't want to serve blackies and thought that should be OK in the name of business. Nice to see we have come full circle you POS.

Except as per the OP:
a longtime customer

The florist has no problem with providing service to gays.

She isn't discriminating against gays; she is refusing to sell flowers for a specific occasion.

Let's pretend you own a lumber yard and someone comes in wanting to buy a lot of lumber. They state they are holding a private party, belong to the Klan, and want to build crosses from your lumber to burn. Nothing illegal - it is being done on private property and they have a burn permit. Just a bunch of racist rednecks standing around, burning crosses and talking about the good ol' days of slavery. Are you allowed to refuse them service?

How about the Westboro Baptist Church places a flower order from you. They want hundreds of black roses to protest the wedding of some gay guys. Can you refuse them service? After all, that would be religious discrimination.

I'm not saying I agree with it, and I personally wouldn't deny them flowers for their wedding, but this is not a case of some anti-queer nutjob refusing service to gays. This is someone who refused to provide a product for a specific event that they didn't agree with. Hell, the even in question is something that is still illegal in a lot of states.
