I live in Orlando, Florida, but I can't find a "great" #17, even in Miami... it has been years since I've had a great Cuban and home made fresh to order croquettes. The Cuban needs to be toasted to perfection with fresh pork/ham. I can't eat them anywhere because they suck. Now when I want a Cuban I have to cook a ham and a pork shoulder myself.

Tampa Bay, the real Cuban area.

I can tell ya right where to get one of the best ones, it's even straight outside of St Pete/Clearwater Airport.

Well I could I forget the name of the place I could drive there in 10 minutes, used to get em all the time and they press em etc.

Now ya make me want to go get one tomorrow.

I went to Tampa for the first time last week and noticed a whole bunch of little restaurants. Where shall I try? :D

So, Florida is awesome now because a woman founded Miami a couple hundred years ago? That list has to be the worst attempt at making a case for being the best state. If I claimed that NY was the best state because we have Buffalo wings, I'd look like an idiot. Everyone else makes them too. But, Florida has key lime pie!

If NY was the best, so many New Yorkers wouldn't have their summer homes here.

You must be shopping low price or something...

I lived in the tampa area for 2 years for grad school before leaving the fuck out of that place never to ever desire to return.

FL is the adopted, retarded red headed stepchild that everyone hates version of CA. Combine douchbags, rednecks, old people, cubans, racist morons, a lack of anything resembling good food, crazy bible belt republicans, shitty weather, bugs and you get FL.

Never going back

Who the fuck does grad school in Tampa, I somehow am thinking this wasn't your first college choice...

...or at least I am hoping.

Sorry some old religious cuban redneck kicked your ass for complaining about the food she made you.

I Seriously forget the name offhand, I just know where the Cuban sandwich spot is from memory I used to work there, it's a little convenience store looking place as soon as you come out of the airport.

I'll ask my wife tomorrow, are several Greek, Italian etc places to go to too.

This if pretty good Thai food if you're in the area, went there recently and near where I work.

Lot's of places to try food out I like these for seafood.

No state tax in FL either.

So you're telling me you eat in a Michelin restaurant in the middle of a desert there every nite ?

cheap housing, depending, but still based on Vegas probably cheaper.

Water.

Not that interested in blow and hookers, though probably easy to find if I wanted to.

Arrowheads I care less about too.

Hurricane hasn't hit Tampa Bay in many decades, it's not Miami.

Stone Crab is good.

Wife still has friends come down about every year for spring training and stay with us. We're pretty much in the center of em all, though I'm not much of a baseball fan myself.

*shrug*
Vegas always looked like an interesting and fun place to live but then there's the Lake Meade problem, unless rainfall change's radically the water WILL be gone..

Mykonos in tarpon springs is awesome greek food. That's saying something because greek food sucks...
I believe my grandfather painted murals there years ago but I think they were all redone.

Don De Davis, it was all done in Grecian Murals.

I think they were painted over or redone, I'll have to go look someday.

Yes good food if it's the one I remember up there, I don't go north much these days past Palm Harbor.

Once upon a time he did much Artwork down here, all over I won't list em all.

The Beachcomer still on Clearwater beach and still many around left. He's getting erased a few places that makes me sad.

Teddy Bears in the 70's was one a short while on the intercoastal, I don't even think it exists anymore just thought I'd mention that one for that reason.

That and the Glass Frog on top of the old Hilton on Clearwater Beach, it doesn't exist anymore either.

Anyways off to Dunedin Brewery tomorrow nite for fun and games :)

Florida is a great place to visit to get a break from winter, but way too hot in summer. not to mention the hurricanes. I'd hate having to worry about losing my house every year.

Tampa is pretty nice, but I've only been in the spring. It would probably be too hot and humid for me anywhere in Florida during the summer months.

Hurricanes are VERY exaggerated. If your home is reasonably new and you are not an idiot you won't lose your home.

Florida is an ok/maybe bad state to live in. Orlando is my favorite city in state because they have the best downtown and surrounding areas. Miami is the worst place in the nation possibly. Would rather live in Detroit. cess pool of people.

Summer in FL is incredibly hot and the mosquitoes are brutal if you don't have a thermacell on. They don't care about your OFF spray lol.

Keys are phenomenal though for those who haven't been there. Special place that has not been recreated elsewhere at least from my experience.

South Florida is awesome! The only thing I don't if I could deal with is the crazy humidity. Other than that, love it!

The media sometimes exaggerates stuff but I don't know how one could exaggerate a hurricane. When you see the damage, it's hard to imagine how it could be exaggerated. The pictures and videos are real. At least, I don't think they'd go as far as actually using CGI just to make people think it's worse than it is.

How in the world can you build a home to survive that? Unless your home is entirely poured concrete 4 foot thick walls full of rebar with no windows and mostly underground it's probably not surviving a hurricane, and it will look like this:

If you're lucky and it's a smaller hurricane, you'll just get flooding.

Floridas-WOrst-Hurricanes.jpg

Also have to watch for flying air conditioners. Mice make terrible pilots at 300MPH.

florida-hurricane-damage.jpg

You could probably build a traditional home and make it aerodynamic, but you still have to worry about cars and semi trucks crashing on it. It becomes a luck thing. Sometimes you see a single house somehow unaffected and the rest of the neighborhood is obliterated. Tornadoes tend to do that more than hurricanes as they're more localized. Hurricanes just level entire cities.

florida should really be three different states. The north part should be called drive through really fastistan. The middle should be called methistan. The south should be called miamistan.

Also florida was much better in the 80s. Sleepy and quiet.

I was in Florida in the 90's. I saw a lot of street gangs.

I wonder if they are still there?

:hmm:
