Sorry guys I just can't get on board here.

This guy started an argument over texting, and the two of them were SURROUNDED by other people. There were people on either side of the old man to pull the younger man off him if it came to that. The guy was with his wife, not his 4 large male friends with menacing looks.

And how is it safe to fire in a crowded theater btw? What if he'd missed? There were people in the rows beyond the two of them.

You don't pull out a gun and shoot someone because someone made a grab at your fucking popcorn. Nor because they threw it in your face.

I don't condone grabbing his popcorn and throwing it in his face, that's a ridiculous thing to do, but it doesn't merit a death penalty.

The old man had no idea he was grabbing popcorn or about to punch him in the face repeatedly. Any reasonable person would be in fear for their life or great bodily harm from the actions of the deceased especially when presented with the disparity of force and the elder gentlemen was unable to retreat.

Remember, it was dark and this younger guy who's wife was attempting to restrain him from battering the elder man. Any reasonable person would be in fear of great bodily harm or death.

The video makes it pretty clear.

Not saying it was morally justified, just that it was legally justified.

And I think taking someone's popcorn and throwing in their face is an indication of someone with major uncontrollable anger issues. Do crap like that on a regular basis and you will eventually find someone just as crazy as you.

That's what happened here... Two hotheads confronted each other. One left a fatherless child and wife. The other will be wrapped up in court.

On a side note, I just went and saw a movie in this theatre. The movie previews were about to start and there were like five little mini-shows telling us to turn off our cell phones. Usually you see this before a movie once, but we were like, "Okay, that's odd." We then watched the previews, and before the movie started, there were even more. Then we were like, "Wait, wasn't this the theatre the man was shot in for texting?"

Sure enough, it was.

I think it'd be pretty funny if they added a little animation after the previews showing a smiling cartoon gun flipping it's own safety and telling the audience not to blow anyone away for texting.

If the world gets many more Spatially or Spideys then they might have to add that cartoon.

No, a reasonable person wouldn't be in this situation. Old piece of shit cowards are in this situation.

Neither of them seem to be of the particularly trigger happy variety. This isn't about stupid, this is about quickness to resort to violence as response.

Unless you have knowledge that they have shot people in the past, the only thing they are guilty of is talking a big game, which is exactly the same as the two idiots I named.

Protecting your life isn't trigger happy. It's smart.

Old guy could have died from one punch from the thug.

Don't attack other people and you won't get dead.

Fair enough. Lets say then that their words indicate they believe they would be quick to resort to violence. Which is worrisome in my opinion.

I love what makes someone a thug now to spidey. Apparently throwing popcorn means you're a thug.

I don't consider getting heated with and tossing popcorn in the face of someone who was narcing you out to theater management and bitching at you over texting DURING PREVIEWS to be thuggish - I would say it qualified him as a hothead who could have benefited from greater conflict resolution or conflict avoidance skills.

I want a society where you aren't required to be a complete pussy to be safe, but also one where you are required NOT to be a violent thug. I don't think that's unreasonable. Normality is between the two extremes.

Bsholes words are that he or she would forcibly teach teenage girls to perform anal sex.

I consider that worrisome as well, if taken literally.

Assault on a senior is a felony.

Don't felony assault people when they have no means to retreat from you.

You may get dead.

You are very well versed in the law I see and have stated many things rise to the level of being worthy of shoot. It's quite a list. Thank you for it. Just like everyone else as using your Guide To Shoot, you have had someone "assault" you.

The fact that you still post here and have not been in the news already tells all who have read your posts the profound level of shit you are full of.

You don't walk the walk. :whiste:

Just watched the video.

You don't shoot someone dead for grabbing your popcorn and tossing it at you, which appears to pretty clearly be what the deceased did.

You don't.

That's not a threat to your life. Popcorn tossed in your face is not a threat to your life. It is not an indication that any threat to your life is coming on the horizon from that person, either. You're in a crowded movie theater with people all around. The guy is with his wife, the guy just told you he'd been texting his young daughter.

This man has a family. This man is someone YOU started shit with over texting DURING THE FUCKING PREVIEWS NOT THE FILM ITSELF. So, you start shit with him, he loses his cool and grabs your popcorn and tosses it in your face (he should not have done this no matter how big of a dick you were being, granted) and you fucking instantly whip out your pistol and end his life? Depriving his wife of a husband and his daughter of a father... over some popcorn in your face?

Fuck that shit. Completely, totally, 100% unacceptable and anyone who would argue that the law should support that needs to rethink their position. That's the kind of assertion that makes the elimination of all reasonable self-defense statutes more likely, because it paints those of us who believe in self-defense and SYG as unreasonable and crazy.

It's like with the Trayvon thing. If Trayvon had merely punched Zimmerman, and did nothing to get on top of him or follow up from that punch with anything further, I would not support Zimmerman having shot him. It was the prolonged restraint and beating as Zimmerman screamed in terror, all seen by a disinterested witness, the injuries, and the seeming complete unwillingness on Trayvon's part to cease the assault, which made me support that.

The Jordan Davis thing was much less clear. But if he made legitimate verbal threats which were convincing, that he was going to kill Dunn, I could see at least the first few shots. That was a tricky one.

Popcorn in the face from someone you'd been dickish to, justifying ENDING THEIR LIFE? Holy shit, not in a million years. I don't even think that would rise to the level of management kicking him out, maaaaybe... maybe kicking you BOTH out.

That's the kind of shit which results in you saying to your wife "man I can't believe that asshole threw popcorn in my face" on the car ride home, not the kind of shit which results in someone dead and a little girl without a father for the rest of her life.

Agree wholeheartedly.

There is a time for use of deadly force. This certainly wasn't it.

Really?

I would say in the realm of controversial issues in ATPN it's the worse.

Worse than asking kids to turn down their music.. Worse than asking a thug in deep cover what he's up to...

As far as invasion of personal space issues, it's pretty severe. I personally wouldn't pull out my gun and blow someone away over it, but there are plenty of slightly unstable but not mental people out there carrying guns who would consider that a threat on their life like this old man did.

This is why you should think twice before confronting some defenseless old man. Plenty of legal ways to shoot someone in this country. Of course it's not an issue unless you're a thug bully making a habit of going around trying to intimidate old people.

That's what happened here... Two hotheads confronted each other. One left a fatherless child and wife. The other will likely be going to jail for the rest of his life.

Fixed that for you.

Also, people who are hot-heads shouldn't be carrying. Period.

But it's ok being an old guy with the habit of going around trying to intimidate other people?

I would say threatening a seemingly defenseless old man is pretty thuggish.

When was the last time you could identify someone's age in a dark movie theater??

For all that crazy old coot knew could have been a slightly younger crazy old coot therefore older crazy coot loses his premise to kill. "I'm being attacked by a young whippersnapper with deadly popcorn!"

Maybe so, but they do. And the laws allowing them to do so are getting stronger and stronger.

So it really doesn't matter who is "right", when you're in a pine box and have a widow and children left behind, all because you had to try and intimidate some poor old man.

That's my issue here, bottom line is legal or not, go around throwing popcorn at people and starting confrontations and you just might come across one of these hot heads.

This young buck went looking for trouble and he got some. Now his poor wife and daughter have to suffer due to his poor decisions.
