All of the people I went to high school with who ended up in prison are now born again trump loving idiots. Are there statistics on party affiliation of the ex-cons in Florida?

They targeted these people because they are already registered. They voted in the primary then the court ruling came down after that they could not vote again until their fees were paid. It's a pretty smart application of cash imo.

The voting effort targets mostly Black and Latino felons in Florida who registered to vote while the law was in question — populations that have historically backed Democrats in larger numbers.

This has been my theory all along. I assume that the most reliable Dem voting group among the inmates would in fact be black. Did not know for sure what the makeup of the FL prison population was until I did some checking. Well, the majority of the prison population is black so I now see how this can be helpful.
Sadly, I guess maybe except for like Idaho, most prison populations are majority black or black and Hispanic these days.

He's not a slick presentation as a person but he's a totally self-made man, unlike Dump his daddy didn't give him $700 mil to start in business and he's a very very rich man now. The fact that he'll spend big to kick Trump in the nuts almost makes him a legend to me.

Heard he's donating 100 million dollars to promote Biden's bid to take Florida. At the time FL was neck and neck ... 48% to 48%, that was about 2 weeks ago. See today where Biden's showing a 1.5% lead.

Turns out the bill they passed ha a reconciliation amendment that allows courts to waive fines and fees if they choose.

Heavily democratic counties have set up “rocket docket” courts to quickly waive fines and fees (except for victim restitution) for felons who’ve completed the rest of their sentences allowing them to regain the franchise

Republican counties are of course requiring all fines and fees to be paid disenfranchising their residents.

So it looks likely that GOP counties will prevent some democratic leaning felons from voting while also disenfranchising their own supporters. While democratic counties will allow many more democrat felons to vote.

You get the math right? The assumption here is that if its 60/40 the GOP is good with losing the 40 cause 60 hurts the dems more.
Its like, very very, basic math... coincidently, this concept precisely, I have observed to go over a few conservatives heads here.
Then you explain it to them.
Then they'll say ok but decide to still not get it.

Yeah but I'm sure it's not something that happens overnight. If a felon wants to pay his debts in order to vote, how long would that take? I would bet it'd be months.

A really long time since some counties don't even have an amount owed. People with the means to pay off their debts literally are not able to in some locales.

The people voted and the Republicans in the state legislature took away that power.... yet those same people will apparently vote for Republicans again.

These were targeted individuals that they identified and could help right away.
Look like its a done deal and this will be cleared up by the Oct 5th deadline.

Wow... I'm stunned. Absolutely stunned. This is a remarkable election strategy. I'm curious why the democratic party hasn't thought of doing this before or why they're not doing it in other places. They certainly have the money.

Ensuring everyone can vote isn't a strategy it's democracy. They are simply countering the vote suppression efforts of the GOP. Nationwide more votes see cast for democrats at both levels of congress and for the presidency. This was even true at times when Republicans controlled all 3 levels of government. Republicans have manipulated the system to ensure minority rule through gerrymandering and abusing the electoral College. Obviously the real problem are the ignorant people that for for these clowns thinking they will do what they say.

Anyway, because of the GOP gaming the system, dems are digging for more votes, to win by an even wider margin, in hopes of being at equal power. How nice it would be to have the people's vote matter equally across the country.
